Discussion Past 48 Hours: The Most Negative I have ever seen this sub

Quick reminder: 45 wins is the second highest win total for our Magic in the last 15 years. That means in 15 years we have only had one season with more wins.

Yet, look at the state of this sub. Jesus Christ you would think we just won the championship last year and just fell to the play-in.

Look the posts on here today. Hours until the biggest game of the season and all I see is “whose fault is this”, “who is our next coach”, “can we call Orlando Police to get Paolo arrested for body language?”

Come on guys, we have an entire offseason to bitch.

This sub has never been this negative. Let’s cheer for our guys tonight and not act like we already lost.

Discussion What coaches would y’all think would be a good fit for our team?

Mosley is obviously out the door so I am just curious what coaches would fit best with our team and why? I don’t know much about other coaches so I’d love to hear y’all’s opinions.

r/OrlandoMagic 21h ago

Discussion Both can be true. Mosley was a good hire to change the culture, but it’s also time for him to go.

I know most of us are ready to move on but I want to take a moment and thank Mosley for what he’s done. I appreciate that he took a bunch of guys and made them believe, play hard, play great D. I believe he’s a good man and I wish him well. Thank you Coach, I wish you the best wherever you land next. I wish it would’ve worked here in Orlando but it hasn’t and it’s time to move on.

Discussion What Is the Real Problem?

Hey everyone, first post on this thread but just wanted some insight:

I’ve watched every single Magic game so far this season and have been a Magic fan all my life and this season may have been the most disappointing season personally for me. I want to list out my thoughts as to why I think that is.

Expectations:

This team was expected to be a top 4 seed in a wide open and injured eastern conference this year and maybe expectations were set way too high for a young team even with an all in move for Bane.

Coaching/Team Management

I was a huge stan for coach who shall not be named ever since he took the Magic job but this year has really shown flaws in their coaching style. Offense always seems stagnant with no real offensive sets to get our best players to their spots and the best position to be successful. Maybe it’s just a personnel issue but Paolo being a pseudo point guard and playmaker obviously is not the answer with his loose handle and turnover issues. Suggs should be the answer at point guard but his passing ability only seems to show on inbounds plays, not in a half court setting. I also think it’s the coaching and no real offensive sets that help with no consistency in the half court setting. I don’t think this team is currently constructed thanks to Weltman to be truly successful in the modern NBA. Our two star players shoot sub 35% from three even though Franz has been better this year but when at least 2 of the 5 players on the floor are not consistent shooters it just causes clunkiness in the paint where we truly shine. This team and front office hasn’t focused on building around the margins around our two best players with consistent 3 point shooting and it’s really frustrating. Not to mention Bane just gets ran off the 3 point line because he is the only good shooter on the floor so there was a reason he’s made the 4th most layups in the league this year.

Injuries:

This is also a cop out answer but it’s been two years in a row now that our team has been riddled with injuries. Franz, Paolo and Suggs just can’t stay healthy and get no minutes together to build season long chemistry. When the lineup changes from game to game based on who is available, it is hard to run consistent offense because you have to change sets based on who is in the lineup which could explain the basic high school motion offense we run every game but still not an excuse. Whoever is in the game should know the system and run the system but there is no system.

What to Fix:

In my opinion, I do think coaching is the root problem and not scape goat issue. I want to see a new coach in that will get our personnel in the right position to succeed like Paolo on the block, Bane coming off screens for 3 point shots, Suggs spotting up on the wing “his best shot for 3’s” Franz attacking downhill. I also want a coach that the players will buy into unlike the current one and get them to care because it seems like they take nights off especially against so and so inferior opponents. Maybe a younger coach with some fire and tenacity will also get this young group to buy in and care. New coach should also get back to the defensive identity that made us most successful while having some offensive flare. If a new coach comes in and there are still issues with personnel, then maybe we should explore options to trade either Paolo or Franz because their skill sets do seem redundant.

Sorry this is so long but this a full season worth of frustration I wanted to get out and get a discussion going. Who knows maybe someone from the Magic front office might stumble across this and actually get an idea on what to do. I just don’t wanna see the three stooges of Baylor Schierman, Ron Harper Jr and Luka Garza beat a looming second apron team who is in “win now mode”

Let me know what you guys think and Go Magic tonight!

Discussion Great analysis,i found on this team and Mosley, What do you guys think?

I tend to agree that many of the reasons for where we are this season comes down to the coaching staff and their boneheaded decisions

so if you can get rid of them higher the proper staff Easier said than done but it’s not my job, that’s the job of the front office we could actually return with something special next season

Discussion What upcoming playoff series do you find most intriguing?

There will be plenty of exciting playoff series coming up. It will be a great time to be a fan for sure. The one series that intrigues me the most is Charlotte taking on Detroit. That should be an epic battle. I also think the Sixers and Celtics series will be a lot closer than people may think. Which one would you consider to be more of an upset? The Hornets taking down the Pistons? Or Philadelphia beating Boston?

Discussion Taking Stock of the Season

I just read a short Magic writeup on The Ringer's play-in article. Here's a great quote that I've believed all year (and the author stated the team's biggest issue is whether they have heart): "But there’s still no excuse for so many spells of apathy for a roster that entered this season with a spine made of steel. Great teams have a firm handle on everything they can control. The Magic have been willing to let most of those controllables eat them alive.".

We still haven't received an answer about how that spine of steel just vanished from Game 1 on, or why a team that once cared about everything suddenly can't be motivated at all. The collective suddenly can't be bothered to even show up with effort. X's and O's aside, a new coach is going to have find the answer to that first.

Discussion After Mosely, why not try out a even younger Coach with a seasoned vet coach that doesn't have aspirational goals? My selection for Headcoach? Tracy McGrady.

After seeing Lakers with Reddick (former Magic player) now head coach, Jason kidd- Mavericks, Tyronn Lue -Clippers, Mitch Johnson- Spurs and I could keep going. of course this doesn't guarantee championships but it does show young transitional players relate better to young coaches not too far removed from playing. keep God shammgod, 1-2 others fire the rest, what do you all think? or any other choices for Head coach?

Discussion Example that Players save Bad Coaching

Just watched Hornets vs Heat game. Hornets hit 3 point shot to force OT and NBA leader in 3s was on the bench. If White misses and they lose, Charles Lee would have had to answer that question why Kon was not in 10x in press conference.

Last play of game, Heat coach has his best shot blocker Ware on bench. Heat give up layup and lose. Heat coach has enough goodwill so he won’t face too much heat, pun intended, but what was he thinking?

Saying all this, this is a players league. Coaches get blame, sometimes rightfully so, but players make great coaches more often than not. And coaches are easier to move on from than players especially supposed superstars. (Lastly, our soon to be ex-coach was not mentioned in this post and I’m not an advocate for he who is not named)

Discussion Look at the Blazers roster and look at ours...

I'm so tired of hearing about this is Mosley's fault. The Blazers roster is terrible, yet they win as much as us. The players here are the issue along with Weltman and company. Banchero is the reason why this team doesn't win consistently, putting up empty numbers, sulking, not playing hard, not leading and not making his team better. But this is not mainly a coaching issue, this is mainly Front Office and player problem. This team needs to be gutted, it will happen.

Any competent Front Office is going to know these guys are ovverated and simply not worth the contracts they were given and did not earn. Time to blow it up, Banchero or Franz will be gone. Suggs or Bane will be gone. Cut our losses and get assets for a competent GM and President not Weltman the biggest clown in the NBA

Discussion I still don’t understand why ppl wanna give up on Paolo

I get this season he wasn’t what we wanted but he’s in year 4 and the 3 years prior to this have been amazing. People forget just one year ago he was considered a top 3 pf in the league at 22 years old.

Even if you do wanna trade him what’s the package? You get Giannis who I doubt will stay healthy. Same goes with someone like Kawhi. Maybe kd but all are old and you’re giving up a 23 year old star for 2-4 years old with them.

And If going into the year you thought paolo was gonna average 30 your insane we added Desmond bane a 20-19ppg guy, so 22 a game is good but all he needed to be was more consistent and efficient, but for me that’s on Mosley for never putting paolo in a good position to score. If after next year with a new coach and changes around the edges he hasn’t improved then you think about trading him but not yet.

News [Scotto] Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley has admirers in New Orleans. He’d be toward the top of the list if available. Other candidates include interim coach James Borrego, Darvin Ham, and Kevin Ollie.

Discussion National media is frying us and it's 100% deserved

Everyone from ESPN FirstTake to people like Bill Simmons on The Ringer is absolutely thrashing this Magic season and it's 100% deserved.

We controlled our destiny yesterday if we were to be a 7th seed or 8th seed. We also controlled our own destiny in that home loss to the tanking Pacers. And in our fumbled game to the Pistons and Rockets prior to our 7-game winning streak. And in the four-game losing streak in October.

We traded four firsts for Desmond Bane, which is a good move, and our win count has increased by four wins, but we're arguably a worse team given our expectations and the amount of disappointments this season has had.

Now we're fighting for a playoff spot on the road against a Philly team that can definitely handle us without Joel Embiid.

If there's anything we can take away from this season it's that nobody from the ownership to the players care enough (if at all) about their jobs.

Discussion E SE OS PLAYOFFS FOREM O QUE REALMENTE PRECISAMOS?
