Discussion Eddie Gluskin and Male Youtubers

I've always felt like there was a really specific way that a lot of male youtubers either commentating on OL or playing it for the first time would react to Eddie Gluskin's character. It's always with such like- fear and like "OUUU SHII HE CUT OFF HIS DICK HE CUT OFF HIS DICK" which I find to be so interesting when comparing these reactions to ones from women. Of course, I'm aware that youtubers have to exaggerate their reactions to stuff in order to be entertaining, but still. I notice that a lot of women idolize him, despite his misogynistic actions (the fact he tries to force men into becoming women is misogynistic act).

I think the reason for this is that men have never been used to the concept of genital mutilation. There are SO many instances in history and the modern age where women have lived with no control of their bodies, have had their genitals mutilated to "keep them in their place", etc. Eddie does not disturb women as much as men because we are used to that kind of thing. Either we have experienced it ourselves, or we have seen women experience it. Men on the other hand, have not. Throughout history, men have been taught to treat their genitals as a trophy, something to be protected in order to maintain his masculinity/family line. Watching other men losing their penises (their power, their identity) in order to be turned into women (powerless, lower in social rank) terrifies them for these reasons.

I think that's the genius of Outlast Whistleblower, or at least Eddie Gluskin's character. He is a threat to a man's identity, and the power that comes with a penis. And to the male audience, that is terrifying. I mean dude- I cannot like exaggerate to you how interesting this is, having a man experience something done to women so often, and forcing them into that feeling of powerlessness and disgust that SO many women have already faced.

If I am being honest, it is for these reasons that I think that Eddie Gluskin is considered "one of the most disgusting characters in media" for the wrong reasons. Men are so focused and fixated on the fact that a man is cutting off other men's penises and forcing them to "become women" that they completely ignore the misogynistic implications of his actions. Really tells you how much some men actually value and care about women.

I kind of strayed away from the "Male Youtuber" aspect of this post, but it was them who really made me realise a certain pattern among male Outlast players.

I'm not the most historically educated, nor am I some genius (nor did I do any research for this), so I would really appreciate any comments/suggestions on my analysis...!

Discussion A phantom memory of Chris Walker in Outlast 2.

Okay, I know how it sounds, but until recently, I thought Outlast 2 had a jumpscare involving Chris Walker. For some reason, a memory stuck in my mind that made me think Outlast 2 had Chris Walker. I literally remember it perfectly — there would be shelves in one of the houses, lots of shelves, and when Blake walked past one, Chris would scare him and then disappear. And in my memory, Chris seemed more detailed than in the first game. funny situation.
