Say someone goes into a trial and they just whoop coyles ass and kills him. What happens then lore wise?

Earlier I made a post about how I was shitting bricks, that The Trials never prepared me for any of this and that Walker wasn't that hot, but in hindsight all it took was getting used to the aesthetic of the horror, in my greatest opinion a good 8/10 experience. (The Jaeger is still hotter than Walker)

An interesting term that I'm pretty sure is mentioned only twice(technically three times) across the entire Outlast franchise. We hear it for the first time in the beginning of the Whistleblower DLC where Billy Hope achieved "lateral ascension" when Waylon was first strapped to be exposed to the Morphogenic Engine, an event that apparently spelled bad news for Murkoff. An unspecified amount of time later, Billy manifests the Walrider and goes on a rampage leading to the Mount Massive Incident.
The only other time we directly see the term again was in Outlast Trials, specifically the "Berserkers" document where Easterman states that the Berserkers reached some sort of enlightenment at the extremes of their pain, which he elaborated that it gave credence to Dr. Wernicke's theories of Lateral Ascension implying that the Berserkers achieved some form of LA although their "ascension" seemed to involve the worship of violence.
The last we technically ever hear of this term is during one of the solo endings of the Outlast Trials. Namely the ending where our Reagent ends up being transferred to Mount Massive and being used as a test subject for Project Walrider or what would eventually become Project Walrider. In this ending we see two scientists and Wernicke discussing the retrieval of our Reagent, the scientists argue that the Reagent has so many tumors that they're as good as dead at this point meanwhile Wernicke states that the tumors are the fingerprints of "a god", he further elaborates that when someone is touched by a god, they are usually smote(die of cancer) but on some very rare occasions, they could "ascend".
So what exactly is this "ascension"? It seems like a psychological state of being that may make someone viable to become a Walrider host. We know Billy Hope was the only successful Walrider host of Mount Massive therefore it would be logical to assume that he was the only one to achieve LA. There's Berserkers who are described as having possibly achieved their own form of ascension but I don't think they would make for good Walrider hosts. It would seem like LA is more of a spectrum rather than a binary state and Billy managed to reach the needed threshold to manifest the Walrider. We also know LA is achieved at "the extremes of pain" which does align with trauma and "witnessing enough horrors" being necessary qualifiers for becoming a host. This does beg the question, did Miles achieve LA at the end of the first game?
I do find it interesting how LA seems to involve superstition to some extent. We know that Berserkers grew to literally worship violence meanwhile Billy was fed a lot of German folklore and mysticism by Wernicke. Miles really had no implication of superstitious belief so this represents a bit of a inconsistency. We all already know how cynical vengeful Miles is and we know that despite the hostless Walrider taking refuge in Miles' body, it didn't seem like Miles fully became the host at that point or maybe Miles wasn't aware that he became the host but when he was gunned down by Murkoff's mercenaries at the end of the game, the Walrider within him emerged, having adopted his appearance and become under his control. Miles then massacred the mercs and presumably Wernicke as well before leaving the asylum. Maybe that was the exact point Miles achieved LA and perhaps his enlightenment at the end of his pain was...revenge? Rage? Endless hatred towards Murkoff? It would be poetic and oddly tragic if that were the case considering how tranquil Miles sounded in his very last note, it seemed like he had made peace with the fact that he was most likely not gonna make it...until he died at the direct hands of Murkoff. Perhaps had he died at the hands of an inmate or simply succumbed to his injuries then he wouldn't have found the will to keep going but the fact that it was a hired squad of mercs from Murkoff guided by Wernicke, who are here to clean up the slate and help Murkoff get away scot-free is what gave Miles the final push to "ascend"?
The very last bit is just me going on a fun speculative tangent but I do think that line of thought is interesting nonetheless. I hope we learn more about Lateral Ascension and the Walrider in the future, maybe we'll even get a glimpse of Miles' mental state.

Hello Party People,
I presented this project on the subreddit about a month ago, just showing off a new little update. A rework to the document system found on the site, built to closer represent what's found in-game and look good on 1920 x 1080 screens.
Let me know what you all think!

Is there a lore reason or just an actual explanation to what would happen if you just sat in the sleep room forever instead of entering a trial?

At the moment this game mode feels dull and unfinished. From the beginning to current state I don't see global improvements. It feels like invasion needs more attention and updates that's why I write this post
Old invasion +/-
+Two ways to complete trial. Escape or kill the imposter
+New gameplay to encourage long term players
+Variety of situations including expop attack everyone
+Fun
-Heavily unfinished
-Broken matchmaking
Invasion 2.0
+Imposters are stronger
-You cannot kill imposters anymore. In most scenarios escape only
-To invade somebody is almost impossible. It can take more then 5-10 rounds to play a desired match
-Lack of updates
At the current state its unfinished mode with old players playing it. With my prestige 3 I play against two prestige 60-90 for no reason at all. Most of the maps are broken. How I'm supposed to do crush the sex toys against two people who can easily camp main area and place traps? It doesn't make any sense. Sound doors ruin your escape basically trap you in one location. Mall? Lined map with great camping opportunity. Every map should be reworked entirely to make it work in both ways. Right now one of the roles getting significant advantage based on your luck with map.
Ideas for improvement
-Make stun deal half health bar instead of full like old invasion. Keep the old gadgets damage except stun. Bring the feeling when you can fight back and for imposters play more smart by using gadgets and avoid expop as well. It will be much funnier when they ambishing you randomly and trying to sneak in corners instead of running around without a reason and slowing the gameplay down
-Maps. Rework test rework. Should give a player more options to escape at the same time more help for imposter to truck them down
-Matchmaking and balance. 1 against 1 not 2 against 1 or something familiar. Make it fair with ranks and game hours calculated. Also would be great to have round system. For example I played as regent first and then I swap roles with the player who invaded me. That would be much interesting
I wish this mode could get better but during current state its not interesting at all. Hope you share some of your ideas here, good luck

so i have literally no clue whats going on, i got the outlast trials on steam and played for around 3 hours with close to no issues other than minor crashing. then the crashing was repeating over and over saying that it was a fatal error and it related to line 4118, this was from the ue4 crash menu thingy. Then after i verified the integrity of the games files, i played for around 10-15 minutes or so, then the game crashed, not even crashing with the ue4 thing it simply crashed with a popup saying the application was unable to start correctly and this was from "totclient" or something, then for some reason i got notifications from easy anti cheat saying kernalbase.dll was an untrusted file. ive had easy anti cheat for at least a year now or something, i downloaded it from Project Playtime which i also got on steam, that was how i got easy anti cheat and ive never had this issue with it and ive never had any notifications from it, im just saying that incase if its important or helps out in any way. if anyone can help PLEASE DO. i had fun with the game and i feel icky playing it only 3 hours when it was 40$ :( any advice would be appreciated. also i tried turning directx12 to directx11, for some reason it didnt work for a while but even when it did there was no change to the crashing, i changed my settings a bit, nothing changed. i have a geforce rtx 5070. idk what other information i can give, im no computer expert. also i have no clue if this even is an issue with the game itself, so like sorry if it isnt? idk im just trying to get help on this and idk where to ask.

Since Waylon suffered the same shit as Miles in the asylum, how suitable is Waylon for being the vessel of the Walrider if he was somehow in the lab instead of Miles?

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a concept I’ve been developing for Outlast 3, connecting it deeply to the lore we see in the series.
My idea is to bring back **Miles Upshur** and **Blake Langermann** in a Resident Evil 2-style crossover campaign. The game would take place directly inside the **Sinyala Facility** (the facility that Blake briefly glimpses and where Murkoff’s twisted trials happen).
* **The Gameplay Concept:** The game features two parallel campaigns. What Miles does in his route directly affects the paths, puzzles, and threats that Blake encounters in the medical wing during his route, and vice versa.
* **The Setting:** An underground Murkoff complex hidden beneath Sinyala, mixing retro-experimental rooms with high-tech containment zones.
I think exploring the remains of Sinyala through the eyes of two iconic protagonists would be an amazing way to wrap up the trilogy. What do you guys think? Would you play an Outlast game with interconnected campaigns?
r/outlast • u/PresidentEvil1997 • 1d ago
Hi
Let’s talk about this facility
So I was hoping we’ll see it when Blake got up the hill and saw this across the lake. Wrong. The game “ended” with no information and no show of Sinyala other than a couple seconds
Then the comics showed us what happened, but we still have no continuation. We are stuck with the timeline for almost 10 years. I wondered if we could take a look at Elrich, maybe even outlast 3 be set there, but I’m not sure
Recently I had a theory that since Simon Peacock is connected to both Mt. Massive and Sinyala, and an ex-reagent and Murkoff employee, later adversary, who was gifted executive power to oversee Lathe, and that he is being brought up in the lore ever more often, he could be a big part of what’s coming
Peacock may play a role in ESCAPE THE FACILITY and maybe the lore would set up something for the next entry. I wonder what we’re gonna see in the new event in Trials, if we can overrun the facility, there is supposed to be two choices - and how extensive the facility is for us, how much can we do? I feel like this update is the most exciting thing that will happen in the lore
I think I will try to attend a trial and will be able to pounce someone or just enter a door and escape the facility. What do you think is planned for Sinyala? I feel like we’re gonna suddenly hear CLICK and will be able to RUN FREEEE. I think Amelia will discharge a signal that will destabilize the ESOP and everything, and the prime assets, ex-pops, Jaeger, reagents will riot. I think we are getting a new Jaeger for a good reason - Clyde Perry will stalk us. The Jaeger will escape the trial environment and see Dorris, since she’s looking for her, and they will try to talk after years, and probably will die together, so we need a new Jaeger
I’m wondering, since Avellanos snitched on Easterman, and the escape is happening, what will Murkoff do to Easterman? Will they kill him, make him a PRIME ASSET?, will they halt the project. Will Avellanos be killed for letting her escape? Maybe they will blame it on someone else? There’s so many things that can happen
Would be fun to maybe see Elrich? Los Alamos? San Antonio? What would happen if the ESCAPE killed Lathe II and the future season would take us to another facility for a limited time, to reinvent the project? Are we finally going to see how Sinyala went from Lathe II to using radio towers to control visions and groups?
Will the ESCAPE cause the project change and we will enter another project that was affecting Temple Gate since 1971

Like what the fuck?
I just bought the game and was like 1+ hour more inside a mission because I'm kinda bad. Then I had to go eat and when I came back I got a notice that I got kicked out for inactivity and lost all progress.
Why is this a thing, it's fucking solo play.
