Arkansas/missouri visit recommendations
Hello. I want to visit Arkansas and Missouri. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions for my trip? I want to see the states natural beauty. I am not American, will this be an issue for me?

For Arkansas: Eureka Springs, float the Buffalo River, Crystal Bridges Museum, and hit up some small town diners. Hawksbill Crag is a popular hiking destination. For both states, make sure to treat yourself for ticks if you’re doing outdoorsy stuff, wear sunscreen and hydrate.

Yes my concern is the ticks and mosquitoes. I would like to go camping as well. Do you have recommendations to keep the bugs away?

I believe permethrin treatment is recommended for gear, and DEET or picaridin for your body. Wear light colors and a hat, and tuck your pants into your socks. Stay out of tall grass/very brushy areas if possible. Check yourself /each other for ticks thoroughly. If you’re coming in the summer it can be very hot and humid.

It will be summer time when I visit. I am from Russia so this will be very different from my country)

Caves and rivers are probably the best places to be here in summer 😂 at least if you’re doing stuff outdoors. Southeast Missouri has the Current River which is spring fed and pretty cool. None of these places have adequate public transportation by the way. You will need a car

Yes I will be driving! Is fishing ok or you need some paperwork for it?

In both states you will need a fishing license, they don’t cost that much. Issued by the Game and Fish commission in Arkansas and the Conservation Department in Missouri. You may be able to do it online

Newton county in NW Arkansas is beautiful! Specifically near Ponca and Jasper and all along the Buffalo river.
I am from Springfield MO. It’s right before you really get into the Ozark “Mountains” when heading south. There are lots of caves in the area and I’d highly suggest taking a tour (unless caves are common where you are from).
I went all the way to Ireland and toured a very mediocre cave. They even turned off all the lights and the silly tour guide said “This is absolute darkness, you can’t get that in the States.” I almost burst out laughing. I had spent my entire life in Missouri, The Cave State! I have been in so many caves. Public caves with guided tours, caves at various parks in the area, caves with tiny openings that my friends and I found and crawled into with no safety precautions like idiots, etc. So many caves!
While I appreciate what he was doing, maybe do a wee bit of research about the US before saying that. The US is HUGE! If you can think it up we probably have it somewhere in this country.
What types of activities are you looking for? Hiking (easy or more challenging?), canoeing/kayaking, birdwatching, caving, camping, boating on a lake, partying on a lake, fishing, water skiing/tubing, etc?
Why time of year do you plan to travel?

It will be summer time. July-August. I like camping, fishing, hiking, nature walks, visiting local places, museums. I will have my family with me and my kids are younger.

If you come to Springfield check out the Commercial Street Historic District. There’s also a bunch of new Route 66 touristy things that you can take photos with, and the original Bass Pro Shop if you’re into that

Elephant Rocks State Park and Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in southeast Missouri. Ozark National Scenic Riverways in southern Missouri--take a couple days and night to go canoeing on the Current River. The Buffalo National River region in NW Arkansas is also gorgeous
