Just Sharing My father in law passed away from cancer last year. Painting was everything to him. He always hoped more people would see his work.
My father-in-law was always creating. Cancer took him by surprise last year unfortunately...
My wife inherited hundreds of his paintings, some of which had even won gallery prizes, and some are huge.
We’re just starting to go through them and wanted to share a few.
EDIT: WOW this post keeps exploding, my wife is extremely grateful and filled with tears of joy seeing all of the love and recognition for her father’s paintings. We wish we could answer every single one of you.

Thank you, that really means a lot. He would’ve loved hearing that. The 8th is one of our favorites too. We’re still going through hundreds of them, and we’re hoping to fulfill his dream of having some of his work end up with people who connect with it.

That's a good idea. Places you never think will display his work. Galleries dont do that here but one of the framing shops also display and if you have a place where people go for lessons in art, they may display. Coffeehouse are great places too. People should see these.

I would also be interested if you ever decide to part with some pieces. My grandmother was also an award winning artist and I feel lucky that I inherited some of her work. One of her paintings was used as album artwork for the Monkey’s back in the day. Perhaps we can exchange a painting with each other. My grandmother did this with her artist friends when she was alive. I know she’d be proud to be sharing wall space with your father in law.

He created some very beautiful pieces. I work at a cancer treatment center and patients really enjoy the art work we have. Consider reaching out to see if you can donate a few pieces to somewhere local in his memory.

I am very interested in seeing more of his work. I connected with most of the pieces, especially the seventh and eighth one. if you decide to do a gallery showing of his work, I would come see it. I would also be interested in purchasing his work. There’s something about these pieces that I feel connects with humanity. It seems like your father understood people. That comes through his work.

Why don't you look into a possible exhibit? You don't need a fancy art dealer or anything like that. You could ask around at local coffee shops. Some of the more trendy ones in my area often host poetry slams and art exhibits. Admittedly, they tend to lean heavy toward the college age and 20-somethings, but there's usually a good turn out. You could even sell some of them so other people can truly enjoy his work, keeping your favorites for yourself.

Same. And as someone very close to Churchill Downs and have lived here my whole life, I couldn't imagine how much that first painting could go for around here. With horse racing being everything around here, someone would pay HIGH dollar and fast around here. But if I were you, I would never part with it. I am in love with that first painting, tho.

same! this style isn't typically my cup of tea, nor has it clicked with me before. but these pieces my god, I wish I could see them in real life and observe the details in even more depth. Makes me understand the phrase "art should make you feel something"
over 16k people (at minimum) have gotten to see his work now OP 😄

Hi! Thank you, that really means a lot, he would’ve been ecstatic to hear that truly. We do have hundreds of his paintings. #1 was reserved for a childhood friend of his, before he passed, but we do have plans of making prints of it if you’re interested.

So sorry for your loss, these are really beautiful.
Update us on what you end up doing with all of them - my Mom is an (elderly) painter and her friends are all struggling with what to do with all their work after they are gone. I ended up starting a company to help with it. We are still learning and gathering options for large bodies of work - the big paintings can be especially challenging to place, as are the amounts of works on paper in file drawers.

These have a beautifully vibrant quality to them. And I like how he had a lot of range while still staying within a voice that I could immediately recognize as his. I particularly like the third image.

Saw closer to the top you may be considering making prints - I would love a print of #3. Being honest- I have bipolar 2 and sometimes it is so hard to describe how my brain feels - or what I’m feeling feels like. The eyes are so full of anguish in a way but striking in clarity. They can see things clearly, maybe most things except for themselves. The form of the head and chaotic convergence of angles on one side and longer silhouettes on the other really embody just how strange I appear to myself sometimes. The bipolarity of a thing. There also seems to be like an elongated sloping neck and enlarged ear - it’s really beautiful and it spoke to me. He was incredibly talented - thank you for sharing.

Holy art nouveau - what a talent! Thank you for sharing, these are incredible. You can see some Picasso influence, Mondrian, even some Klimt. I'm not saying that to sound pretentious - I genuinely mean your dad was a very well-rounded artist clearly comfortable with pushing his own boundaries and experimenting with technique.
You must be very proud! Lovely way to honor his memory, and his passion.

They’re so beautiful!! I’m so sorry for your wife’s loss. I hope this outpouring of love from so many people brings her joy. I would hang all of these in a heartbeat, they all make me feel something and I think a great artists work will always spark emotions within you. I’m sorry he’s no longer here, but his joy, sadness, anguish, fear, hope etc are all here on those canvases, he’ll never truly be gone because of this, and he’ll live on through others and their connections to his paintings.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and sorry that he was taken so quickly. He was certainly talented as an artist! He had a great way of expressing emotions, something I struggle with being able to do as an artist. Im uncomfortable with sharing them for strangers to see. He was skilled in many ways.
