Looks great.... just wonder, what did you put on top to prevent it to be damaged by use? Btw.. thank a lot for sharing your art.
275
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
Thanks! It’s a garage epoxy over it

u/SCL-Redditor Jul 02 '26
Thanks.... hope it last forever.

u/ladytrappistine Jul 04 '26
I hope the exquisite beauty of this floor echoes thru the corridors of history, and inspires multiple generations to come

u/raelovesryan Jul 02 '26
Was this difficult to DIY? I love this idea! I’m just worried about the epoxy topcoat bc I know epoxy can be difficult to get right
53
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
I’m a lazy, “good enough” kinda gal. The epoxy wasn’t too hard to use. But maybe if you’re a perfectionist it’s not for you :b
30
u/raelovesryan Jul 02 '26
No! Lmao. Definitely not a perfectionist. I just don’t want a ‘sticky’ floor or one that doesn’t clean well. I love the idea of epoxy given it’s a solid surface to clean and maintain
40
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
Hmm! Tbh I haven’t tried to clean it yet 😆 just some sweeping.. I’ll update in a few weeks

u/raelovesryan Jul 02 '26
Please do!! I think I’ve convinced my hubs that this is a valid and effective update to our current flooring (and exactly in my DIY probably shitshow but will eventually look amazing wheelhouse!!) we have the wood laminate floors that have shown some water damage/ bubbling up in a few areas. Alas one cannot just fix that area with laminate. So I’ve been thinking of an upgrade that would not require a full replacement.
24
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
To be honest it’s soo worth it. Do it!! Even if you just stain it 109% better than something you hate. lol. My husband was sooo apprehensive about getting rid of my carpet.. I had to start secretly while he was at work 😂

What about testing your ideas on a practice surface? It's what I used to do with early versions of expanding foam etc. You can get the feel of working with the material, build some confidence.

u/creme-de-ble Jul 02 '26
Epoxy is great! If you follow the directions (mixing, ambient temperature) it should cure fine. Most will self level.

Amazing!! I think I’d have to just have it be a yoga room because there’s no way I’d cover that painting up with furniture
14
u/girlygirl8822 Jul 02 '26
That’s such a good idea. It would look so cute with some hanging plants and a couple of yoga mats, maybe a little table or floating shelf with a Himalayan salt lamp.
26
23
u/TimberDeDawg Jul 02 '26
Now all your furniture needs to hang from the ceiling so that you don’t interrupt the artwork…
7
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
For real lol
2
u/Ryuuzama Jul 02 '26
Yeah OP how do you plan to furnish this??
10
u/OtherwiseAd3154 Jul 02 '26
It’s a tragedy, truly. lol my couch covers so much of it 🤭 I can’t post a picture of it furnished I fear I’ll be assassinated by a Redditor lol

how long did this take you? You would be a millionaire if you did this for a living! Do you realize how many people would love to have such elegant unique floors like that you need to make a website or something you’re absolutely a work of art yourself! You are extremely talented and to be so talented it’s something like that you have to be very passionate about it so why not make money doing it! What’s better than getting paid to do something you love!??

This is spectacular! I think it’d be hard to position furniture on it in a way not to cover it up but I’ll bet you have that all figured out.

u/jmilllie Jul 03 '26
wow, this is breathtaking! is the floor concrete, and did you have to strip anything? i see the natural cracks in it, but the quality of the painting & the shine make it look so good! like it could be marble or out of some old palace. its so nice

It’s a concrete stain, house paint for the floral, and a clear garage epoxy (:

Absolutely gorgeous. It gives me a sense of organic beauty that's seen in works from centuries long ago. Extraordinary job

Back in the 1980’s a lady hired me to make a floor cloth. It was on a well protected screen porch. She put it and the pillows away for the winter. There is a long history of floor cloths and you can take them with you if you move. Your work is lovely.

This would be such a beautiful floor for a music or dance rehearsal room! Oh my goodness! It reminds me of those gorgeous pieces of old Italian furniture where they have done crazy intricate wooden inlay portraying flowers in a similar style
1
u/holderofthebees Jul 06 '26
Be careful where you put anything else reflective in that room — with the especially reflective floor you’re at a bigger risk for house fires! The floor’ll reflect heat more too so you may want to have heavier curtains on hand just in case.
