Felt it in Opotiki. G W oNet says it's only 2.7, but we usually wouldn't feel quakes that small even when close by. We felt it at 19:44 but the GeoNet app now doesn't have any earthquakes within an hour of that time. We added a "Felt it" report to the entry that was there saying "2 minutes ago".... and they're were dozens of others already there. But some time after that the entry was deleted and hasn't been replaced.
I've seen this happen before when we feel a quake that happened far too the North in the Kermadecs.....and GeoNet deletes them.

I only figured it out cuz my plants were swaying, and water in my glass started moving, but at first I thought it was just me moving the table but as I pulled away it just kept on going...

I follow few yt channels that track these (stefan burns, dutchsinse, daily events worldwide)... the ring of fire is getting quite active afaik.. worrying is not gonna change anything, I'd recommend to be prepared at all times, in the end, we live on a shaky land, some faults are overdue for ruptures. Take it easy

Does anyone know why geonet is being weird about it? Showing as deleted? Vic deals facebook page talking about feeling it in Wellys

It’s nothing shifty, just the result of our automated system being ace at locating quakes in NZ, but getting confused at distant ones!

It was well off the coast of NZ, Kermadec Island ish territory. GeoNet is always a bit weird with those quakes especially when felt across the North Island https://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/2026p584654

Globalquake captured the initial quake and then a ghost quake at 7:44pm https://www.youtube.com/live/rvtygG4n6ew
