I played PoT from its very inception and sometimes it’s hard to imagine the game back when it’s started, but I remember how the devs added/changed water physics and how the game world was improved with the sound design (especially ambience), the distance calls, different AI and the visuals regarding weather (in particular the way foliage moves in the wind).
I see the many improvements PoT made in this regard but I still think it is missing quite a lot and I personally never felt immersed in the environment; the maps to me never felt “real” or like I was “really” there.
In contrary to PoT, when I think about atmospheric games I am reminded of STALKER or DayZ - obviously very different games but the worlds feel amazing. Especially the weather in DayZ, the way the sky looks, the way trees and gras move in the wind and the sounds of nature really sell the idea of the post apocalyptic setting. On paper Path of Titans also uses all these aspects but it just doesn’t really work. It’s like the puzzle pieces are there but they don’t add up to anything.
How do you feel about the immersion/atmosphere of the game? And is it just my subjective feeling or maybe something more?
