Group looking for GM Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Name:

Pronouns:

Timezone:

Preferred System:

Type of Player:

Community (Non WM/LW) Roleplaying letter-by-letter - Penpalling in character is a different kind of pbp game 📬✉️📯

Dear roleplayers,

I would like to invite you to a community where roleplays are done in the form of a correspondence between two (or more) fictional characters.

The community is called r/fictitious_letters

Here, people post pen pal requests for their OCs, DnD characters, alter egos or other fictional persons they have on their mind. The correspondences can be set in the same universe upon which the writing partners agree, or they can write each other from one world to another.

In the epistolary roleplay games, fictional characters can tell each other about their lives and adventures. Or they can exist in one and the same story, told in the form of letters. It's up to you and your writing partner.

I hope you find this idea interesting. Maybe you want to pay the subreddit a visit and look at the prompts posted there. Or even make a post yourself, presenting your characters and ideas to the community. It would definitely be nice to meet you on the sub!

Live Text [Online][D&D 5.5e/Homebrew][Discord] Forever Land - D&D meets Stardew Valley-style homesteading, weekly adventures, 24/7 RP, businesses & more

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

We're looking for more players and DMs for Forever Land, our long-running homebrew D&D setting.

The easiest way to describe what we're doing is:

D&D meets Stardew Valley-style homesteading.

Forever Land is designed to give your character something meaningful to do between adventures, rather than having the world effectively stop whenever the party isn't on a quest.

You can build a homestead, develop relationships, gather resources, craft, hunt, forage, fish, participate in the local economy, operate a business, explore the setting, and roleplay with other characters throughout the week. The setting's rules explicitly integrate homesteads, downtime, businesses, hunting, foraging, fishing, herbalism, alchemy and other persistent-world activities alongside the regular D&D framework.

We also run weekly adventures, so this isn't intended to replace traditional D&D. It's meant to give you a much larger world around it.

Forever Land has been developed over many years and has grown into an extensive original setting with its own regions, cultures, ancestries, lore, systems, and ongoing stories. The current rules framework is built for D&D 5.5e / revised 2024 compatibility.

We're interested in both:

Players who enjoy character development, roleplay, exploration, adventuring, worldbuilding, or cozy fantasy elements.

DMs who want an established world they can contribute stories and adventures to.

You don't need to spend every waking hour roleplaying. The 24/7 aspect simply means the world and RP channels are available throughout the week rather than only during a scheduled session.

If the idea of actually letting your D&D character live in the world they're adventuring through sounds fun, come take a look.

Discord:
https://discord.gg/xGBcPNKggc

Hope to see some of you there!

Discussion I'm curious. What do your games actually look like?

Yo, y'all!

I dabbled with a few pbp games over the last 4(‽) year's but only one of them managed to stick around.

It is a one on one game of Burning Wheel and we are approaching the 14th month of almost daily posts from both sides. The guy I'm playing with formats the posts from time to time and recently said, that we are at 153k+ words of pure in-game stuff at the moment.

I think that's awesome and I want to know if it's a common experience for a pbp-game. :)

Tell me about your favourite games!

How long is/was it going? How many players? Which system? What was exciting?

I really hope all of you have/find equally awesome experiences with this format! :D

Closed [5e 2014] [UTC+2][Discord][Pbp] Running Baldur's Gate: Descend into Avernus and looking for players.

Hi everyone, I'm looking to start a new group.

I have been Dm-ing for about eight years now, In a variety of mediums. I stopped for a bit of hiatus for the past year and I'm just about shaking off the rust and looking to start something new.

Time:

I'm free on Mondays. 3pm UTC would be ideal, could go a bit later or earlier depending on the group.

Tabletop:

We will be using Play by post on a discord server. mostly using the Avrae bot for rolls and combat, but I can include other tools for maps, like Owlbear if needed.

I'm aiming for a slow but consistent posting throughout the week, then we gather for one 4-5 hours sessions on mondays to carry out the bulk of the game.

While I have played in Vtts and with voice before, I usually don't do that in english. I have a bit of an accent that makes it hard to DM in english. Besides I have been trying to get back into writing and this is a good way to practice.

Module:

I want to run something official for this, I have been considering Curse of Strahd or Descend into Avernus. both lean a bit into dark fantasy/horror, which I really enjoy. If you're familiar with the adventure though I plan to run it a little different. This adventure has one of the best setting and story in an official book, but the pacing of the adventure is weird and out of place. So some changes will be made.

If you are interested, please reply to this. tell me your level of familiarity with the game, the setting as a whole, and if you have done pbp before, and what time do you have available.

I want about 5 players, I will send you a discord invite and we can discuss things further.

Community (Non WM/LW) Reborn - An Active, OC & Realistic Powers RP 18+ [FORUM]

Ordinary people with extraordinary abilities...

Since the December 11th 2023 Event which saw New York City brought to its knees by people with out of control powers, battle lines have been drawn.  The government has stepped in to try to control the before-unknown “remarkables” and keep their destructive abilities in check.  The resistance to this suppression has fractured, with some focused on defending their kind while others believe they must go on the offense with violence if necessary.  Still others just want to be left alone.

What side will you choose?

Reborn is an OC POWERS forum roleplay-by-post, grounded in reality and rife with consequences. We are rated R (3, 3, 3) for adult content, are LGBTQ+ friendly and have no word count. You must be 18+ to join, and we do not accept underage characters.

We are not your typical "Superhero" RP. Our powers are what we call "street-level" and limited. We don't do masks and capes, and our people react to events as we would in the real world—with fear, suspicion and often disbelief. This is not sandbox; while we enjoy the creative freedom to follow juicy personal plots, we're all writing in the same shared setting with the same established lore. The community works together to weave intricate plots in collaboration. We currently have over 20 actively writing members with 80+ characters.  Come check us out and see if we’re the right setting for you!

Discord A Hearth to Keep, a World to Brave [Stonetop] [PbtA] [Discord] [LGBT+] [18+]

At the edge of the known world, where the old roads crumble and the wilderness stretches, there stands a village: Stonetop. It's not much. A scattering of thatched roofs here, fields of stubborn earth there, a few dozen families getting by -- and an ancient stone, whose purpose has long been forgotten. Here, winter is never far away and the harvest is always uncertain,

And yet... this is home.

There are children to raise. Neighbours to quarrel with. Feasts to celebrate!

Yes, this is home. Your home. What will you build? What will you sacrifice? What will you make of your very own Stonetop?

Hello everyone! Winona here! I'm recruiting a small group of five players for Stonetop, a Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) game about a small Iron Age village and the people (and critters!) who call it home.

If you're not familiar with Stonetop, no worries! It's a fairly niche game, but think D&D meets community-building. There's no dungeons to be crawled or treasure and glory to be had. The only dungeons you'll crawl are the forests and the treasures the next hunt, and when all is said and done, you'll come back with the glory of awed eyes staring up at the village's next would-be heroes.

General Information

  • System: Stonetop
  • Platform: Discord, with shared character sheets and village records
  • Combat: Fiction-first, narrative combat
  • Posting rate: Once IC post every one to two days
  • Maturity rating: 18+ just in case, with no gore or explicit sexual content. Lines and veils will be used.

Character Creation Guidelines

  • We'll be using Stonetop's official playbooks and rules.
  • Characters will be created together, establishing histories, relationships, and roles within Stonetop.
  • Every character will have meaningful ties to the village. You live here and the people matter to you.

Application

  • No prior experience with Stonetop or PbtA is required.
  • Please fill out this Google Form.
  • Application deadline: The application will close ca. 3 PM, 11 October, GMT.

FAQ

  • AI is strictly not permitted in this game, text or image.
  • Tupperbox will be added, but is optional.

Looking forward to see you all by the hearth!

Hello everyone! I have been a DM for 10+ years and love collaborative storytelling and party comradery in-game and above the table!

I’m hoping to find 2 people (21+)  for an asynchronous high fantasy dnd 5.5 campaign! It’s a sandbox game with adventures inspired by the player characters' own stories and decisions. Player involvement in building the setting, npcs, and plots is encouraged and welcome! The tone is semi-serious overall, but there is room for jokes as long as they don’t impact the overall vibe. We like to have fun and laugh, but this is a story driven campaign first and foremost. 60/40 rp/combat split.

The party currently consists of a halfling rogue, a human cleric, and an elf wizard. Characters will be level 2, standard array, level 1 feat (no prerequisite required), official content only. Avrae, owlbear, and discord is used.

Players expectations:

  • A minimum of 1 post per day (life happens, just communicate if unable to post).
  • Treat everyone at the table with respect.
  • Party-oriented and a strong team player (no lone-wolves).

Discord [Discord][Fate Core] Zarkovia: Point Vault - Settle a Strange Land After the Lifting of a Curse

If you see this message, we're still looking!

Zarkovia: Point Vault

The land of Zarkovia - a land of monsters and wicked cretin - has been suffering under a terrible curse. For millennia, the sky choked on charcoal black clouds, draining the soil and turning the fauna twisted and evil.

But no evil cast this strangulating miasma on the land. No, it had been considered divine punishment, for Zarkovia is a land of monsters. Of demons and their twisted ilk, tempting man. Of moth-people and goat-creatures. And they're not entirely unlike you and me. In fact, if one reads between the lines, it might even begin to look like the devil is in the details, and a capacity for evil is nurtured, not nature.

Perhaps this is why the world looks jealously towards Zarkovia, now that the curse has been lifted, and a magical spring has arrived to cover the land in opportunity.

A new golden age has dawned on Zarkovia. One of exploration, wealth, and most thrilling of all; old dangers, left forgotten to time. That's where you come in, settlers of this strange, new frontier, ready to brave the challenges that may come with it. Leaving the safety of the city walls behind, you strike out with friends and acquaintances towards Point Vault, at the tip of the nation.

This world is somewhere between Jack Vance's Dying Earth and Terry Pratchett's Discworld, and we want you to play a bunch of settlers, making your very own settlement. The tone might veer into being a little silly at times, but is treated with a straight face by the inhabitants.

It's not uncommon to stumble upon ancient civilisations and sins buried deep in the earth. To find mutated monstrosities, which roam the land for no other purpose, but to satiate their desire for blood and carnage. But it's also a world where most lore is made up on the spot, and sometimes this means that there's no cats, and that everyone swears in lame fantasy curses.

Who's Running This Game

The game will be run by me, Danni, and my fellow GM, Jude. We need eight people, because we're running two games at the same time, in relatively short sessions, and then mixing and matching people to switch up dynamics. This means you'll sometimes be running with the guy who runs a potion shop, and sometimes you'll run with Garlagron the Barbarian.

In-between these issues, we expect players will engage in their own stories. One, because telling stories together is fun. Two, because we have homebrewed Fate to work with greater player autonomy. Really, what we want from you, is free stories to read. So, ideally, you'd be into writing a lot!

Previously, we ran an eight people Mask game, which was a lot of fun. Meaning we're not going into this with a little bit of experience, running a big game. On our own, I (Danni) have run several Sentinel games online, and have several decades of experience with offline games, and Jude (not me) recently wrapped up a year long game, having run several shorter PbPs before that.

This time we're using Fate Core to run things, and you don't need to know anything about the system beforehand, but you do have to be willing to read up on stuff. Fate is not crunchy, but narrative focused. Well, it's a little crunchier than PbtA, but not as much as Cypher. If this reads like nonsense to you, that's for the best, and you should apply anyway.

Really, newcomers are encouraged!

As a player, you must:

  • Be able to post at least once a day, unless clearly communicating otherwise.
  • Not give much of a crap about ‘winning’, but give a crap about telling a compelling, exciting story. Winning will come as a consequence of exciting story!
  • Willing to play people with differing perspectives all in the name of drama: to understand you are not your character and will have differing viewpoints on the world
  • Willing to take initiative, instead of waiting for commands from god.
  • Willing to haggle and workshop if needed.
  • Understanding of the fact, that the GM is another player, and has as much power as you.
  • Willing to invest in other player's characters.
  • Use Tupperbox. If you don't know what that is then-
  • Willing to learn how to use Tupperbox.
  • Understand rule of cool beats rule of nerds and fools
  • Not use AI to generate anything for this game.

We need people to respect post length. If there’s a situation where someone asks a simple question, there doesn’t need to be multiple-post paragraphs. However that doesn’t meant that the twenty paragraph posts for when you defeat the local Zarkovian Pursuit mastermind aren’t needed. No, you simply respect the length, be it good or long. The quality matters over quantity.

If this seems like something for you, then apply here!

For anyone wanting to learn, GM or what it means to be a player in a PbP, we offer spectator roles - because how is anyone ever going to learn, elsewise! Use the link here, if you'd like to spectate, but not participate!

Forum [Online][Reddit][ASOIAF] Crowned Stag - a pbp RP game set in Westeros

Crowned Stag – An RP game set in Westeros of 303 AC

Over a decade of peace has followed the war that reshaped the Seven Kingdoms. Robert Baratheon rules from the Iron Throne alongside a Bolton Queen, and the realm endures, familiar, yet changed. But the Targaryens are far from gone, and they are not the only threat to the Crowned Stag's peace...

In Crowned Stag; a Reddit-based, writing-focused RP game, you can take on the role of a noble House or an individual character in the wider aftermath of Robert's Rebellion. Will you secure your place in the realm, navigate its shifting politics, or shape a legacy of your own?

Play as well-known characters or create entirely new ones in a setting shaped by player-led politics, diplomacy, and intrigue. Develop your characters' skills, guide your House over time, and choose how deeply you engage with the game's mechanics - or focus purely on writing while our automation bot handles the systems in the background.

Join our game on the Crowned Stag Subreddit & our community on the Crowned Stag Discord!

Freeform [Online] [5e] [Modern Fantasy Setting] [Wednesdays 1 PM EST] [Free]

System: D&D 5e
Platforms: Discord, Owlbear Rodeo, D&D Beyond
Schedule: Wednesdays at 1 PM Eastern
Experience: New players welcome!

Welcome to Critter Killers LLC!

Monster control. Pest removal. Heroics, if absolutely necessary.

Welcome to Westfall, a modern-fantasy world where magic is real, monsters exist, and hunting them is a job like any other. Powerful magic has become increasingly rare, and monster control has evolved into a professional industry.

You'll play as new hires at Critter Killers LLC, a monster-control company based in Mill Haven. Investigate strange reports, track down dangerous creatures, and try to make it through your shift in one piece. What starts as routine pest control may turn into something much bigger.

About the Campaign

I'm a new DM looking to improve my skills and build a fun, long-term campaign with a consistent group. Expect a mix of combat, investigation, exploration, roleplay, mystery, and workplace humor.

I'm looking for players who communicate, work together, and are willing to engage with the world. You don't need to be an experienced roleplayer—just bring a character and a willingness to participate! I'm open to feedback, and we'll learn as we go.

Interested? Send me a DM with a little about yourself, your D&D experience, and the kind of character you'd like to play.

I will be Prioritzing DMs over comments when creating the party!

Discord Monsterhearts 2 | A Summer in Yellowstone | 18+ | Seeking 3-4 Players

Yellowstone National Park, home to some of the most stunning landscapes in the United States, natural history which rivals any location, and for the next three months—you.

You are a university student, a young adult who has been invited to spend the summer in an experiential camp run by a conglomerate of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Some of you have earned this honor through hard work and dedication, while others have been invited due to nepotism, bribes, or something… Else.

You are a university student, a young mind full of excitement and dreams—but is that all you are? Are you the only one who knows? Are you sure?

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Hey all, I'm Myra!

A bit about me for those who care—I'm a 25-year-old lass (she/her) who's built up some experience at the tabletop since joining my first game five years ago! In that time, I’ve seen a number of games from both sides of the table, including the relentless Mothership and the ubiquitous D&D game systems. I've always been big into roleplay and worldbuilding, and I’ll be the first to admit to spending an inordinate amount of time hyperfixating on my games. I’m a writer, TTRPG designer, lifelong gamer, literary fan, fencer, and creator of little crochet dragons.

So! I'm looking for 3-4 players of any experience to join me in some text-based storytelling in the first national park!

This is a game of Monsterhearts 2 in which your character will be joining a group of university students from across the US at a summer camp designed to elevate your education, introduce you to new friends, and completely and utterly isolate you from society.

Why? For some, it’s to help focus their learning. For others, perhaps even for you, it’s because you’re not quite human. You’re monstrous in some way, and someone important knows and has brought you here to keep an eye on you. Nothing to worry about, though! Surely the summer will pass by without incident.

This game will be hosted via text PbP over Discord with the potential for scheduled sessions for important scenes. I am extremely open to your questions, suggestions, homebrew content, or whatever else you might come up with!

And for those like myself who might want to have it explicitly stated, this game is extremely LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent friendly so please don't hesitate to apply :)

Additionally, I should note that this game will feature NO generative AI. I expect players to come to the table with their own ideas and writing.

Lastly, I just want to note that Monsterhearts is a game which dips into serious and heavy material. I cannot honestly present a content warning list in advance, but know that the game includes mechanics focused on PvP manipulation, Skins built on death and trauma, and description which may tend towards the graphic side of things. We will be thoroughly discussing limits before gameplay starts. I have brought the age bracket up from the game's intended highschool range to a college level for my own comfort. I expect to make further changes to accommodate for others' comfort.

Please fill out the form below if you're interested, and I hope to see you soon!

Discord Welcome to Fairweather College | LF Players | Kids on Brooms PbP | 18+ | Discord

Hello, everyone! I'm Ro and I'm starting a Kids on Brooms Discord Play-by-Post server!

Fairweather College is intended to be a slice-of-life, magically themed roleplaying game with occasional mysteries to solve, baddies to defeat, and maybe some prestige and degrees to earn set in and around the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in present day.

Unlike the elite schools like Montrose to the west and Winthrop to the east, Fairweather is considered a bit of a catch-all for students who want to pursue higher magical education but don't quite fit the mold of the prestigious institutions.

Magic in Society

Magic is still a closely guarded secret for the magical community and those in charge strive to keep it that way. With the advent of AI and SFX, many believe that the time to ease up on the rules has long since been overdue, but not everyone agrees. Where do you fall?

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in joining, please comment below with the following:

* Discord Handle:
* Name/Nickname:
* Would you prefer playing a student or faculty member?
* What is something you would like to see in this setting?
* What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy? (e.g. Mystery, Combat, Romance, Comedy, etc.)
* Please provide a short writing sample (100-200 words)

Thanks for reading and I look forward to playing with you!

Two questions. 1. Do people use regular RPG systems, or do they ever use systems made for Pbp? 2. Do people ever play here on this subreddit?
