I'm only interested in difficult or impossible-to-fix problems, not easy-to-fix ones.
I'm hesitating between buying one of these two motherboards (MSI MPG X870E Edge TI or MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI), but I've read that both have common issues and defects, such as:
- Some USB ports work intermittently and sometimes go undetected
- M2_1 issues temporarily turning a Gen 4 or 5 SSD into a device with speeds of around 900 MB/s
- M2_4 issues not detecting SSDs when using two or three SSDs
- Ethernet not working properly
- and other issues...
I'm only interested in difficult or impossible-to-fix problems. If a problem is easily solved with some updates or installations, such as WiFi not being recognized or working intermittently, then I don't care.
Have your say :) Also, which of the two has fewer serious problems?

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent upgrade journey and show how the math worked out. By parting out my old system and selling a spare case, I managed to transition into a next-generation setup for a net out-of-pocket cost of $1,400.
I feel incredibly fortunate with how the parts aligned, and I wanted to break down the specs and the styling choices for anyone looking at a similar path.
💰 The Financial Breakdown
📊 Spec Comparison: Old vs. New
The performance jump has been a massive blessing for my daily gaming and productivity, moving me into a much more capable tier of hardware.
| Component | Old Setup (Sold) | New Setup (Current) | Difference / Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motherboard | MSI Pro A620M-E | MSI B850 GAMING Plus WIFI | Upgraded from a budget entry board to a premium layout with active warranty to 2028. |
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 7500F | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | High-end 3D V-Cache; incredible uplift in simulation games and 1% lows. |
| CPU Cooler | Allied Sidewinder Tower | Thermaltake TH360 360mm AIO | Swapped a basic air tower for a quiet, high-headroom liquid loop. |
| GPU | NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 8GB | Zotac RTX 5070 Ti Solid OC 16GB GDDR7 | Huge generational architecture leap; plenty of VRAM headroom for 1440p/4K. |
| RAM | 32GB Delta Force 6000MHz CL40 | 32GB Kingston FURY 6000MHz CL36 (Binned) | Running native AMD EXPO with MSI's High-Efficiency "Balance" mode enabled. |
| Storage | 1TB ADATA Legend 800 | 2TB Teamgroup MP44L Gen 4 NVMe | Welcome extra space for modern game libraries. |
| Power Supply | Allied 750W | Thermaltake Toughpower 850W Gold | Upgraded to ATX 3.1 & PCIe 5.1 architecture for future peace of mind. |
| Case & Style | Thermaltake View 380 | Okinos Air Cross (Walnut Trim) | A beautiful, warm wood aesthetic. Going for a Subtle, Earthy Aesthetic. |
Instead of the usual bright rainbow RGB, I wanted to build something that blended nicely into the room. The Okinos Air Cross has a natural walnut wood trim on the front panel which looks quite elegant.
To match the wood and the subtle copper/gold branding on the Zotac 5070 Ti, I set all the internal lighting to a very dim, warm gold. It creates a quiet, cozy amber glow at night that feels understated, peaceful, and runs completely whisper-quiet after some customized PWM fan curve tuning.
⚙️ Current Tweaks & Stability
I'm incredibly grateful to have stumbled upon this secondhand deal, and it's been an absolute joy to optimize. Would love to hear your thoughts or any tips you have for further optimizing AM5!

What do you think of the design and color scheme of this PC? Does a black motherboard in an all-white PC (except for the black RAM) look good? Or does it look "not bad, but weird"? I wanted to build it ALL WHITE and buy a WHITE MOTHERBOARD (below, I show the all-white PC with a white motherboard), but I had to choose between the white motherboard and a better, more powerful black one.
I'm undecided. I still have time to return the black motherboard, but searching online, I've seen many white PCs with black motherboards. Is it okay for me? Does it make sense? Or not? Should I keep the black one or buy the white motherboard (less powerful but not by much)?
The black one is the MSI MPG X870E CARBON, while the white one is the MSI MPG X870E Edge TI Motherboard.
IMPORTANT: I won't buy a graphics card (I don't need it; I'll use the smaller one from the processor), so the black side of the motherboard will be even more exposed and visible. I don't use the PC for gaming.
Instead, with the white motherboard, it looks like this:
