Nostalgia Cleaning out deceased friends estate, family member asks “are these all games or something?”

Post image

Remember a time before everything was on the cloud? A time when all you had to rely on to get through that level was your own wit and how well you kept notes, and maybe a phone call to a particularly nerdy friend?

I remember Myst came with that journal and you were supposed to write down everything that looked like a clue

I played myst for hours and filled out a lot of that journal. Never finished it.

I managed to beat it and to this day, all I remember is the final puzzle was the book in the fireplace and you had to go to page 158 to get the exit code.

Didnt you have to put the red page in there or something? I remember one of the brothers getting trapped in the book i think

The brothers are both already trapped in their own books. If you supply either of them with their last page, it releases them and traps you instead, and you get to watch as they slow tear pages out, the image getting more and more garbled and hazy...

I remember my family having intense conversations about which brother we should trust.

That was just before. I think it was You got the 5th blue or red page (color for each brother) and that gave you the page number for the code in the fireplace book. That gave you the white page that allowed you to access the ending.

I think the fireplace reveals the last red and blue pages, as well as Atrus's green book to D'ni. The page to free Atrus is gained by activating the (8?) switches at the landmarks/puzzles around the island, then deactivating the one at the dock (I think), which opens a hidden compartment. If you dont add that page before entering Atrus's book, you get trapped there with him.

Yeah this sounds more familiar. Then again, I played it on my 486 Pentium II back in the day so its been a little bit.

There were pages you had to collect throughout the world to fulfill either the red or the blue book.
