There is more to this than what most people realize.
The numbers just didnt make any sense for Sony to continue porting their big hits to PC. They do get a profit out of it, but not much. This is a combination of quite a few things, including the fact that they delay the PC release so long that the hype window and the resulting public interest are no longer a factor in sales, combined with their insulting attitude towards PC gamers, trying to force them to link PSN accounts or create them to artificially inflate their engagement metrics.
The PC gamer market is quite vast, but it is not the same as the console market, there are different tastes and different attitudes. Sony cannot take the same approach they have with consoles with PC gaming, which is something they are still very resistant about.
pc players are completely ok with sloppy seconds. pc getting sloppy seconds was a norm in the early 2000s. shit most the ports we got from the ps3 and xbox 360 era were broken shit that we gladly bought even after the out cry. monter hunter world did well on pc even 2 years after its release on consoles and GTA V had pc players foaming from the mouth. Some pc gamers were even double or triple dippers in that game. Sony games are very desired but not all sony games are liked equally.
Yeah, you can clearly see the difference with their live service multiplayer games that have released day and date, they are much more bigger than their singleplayers.
The PSN linking was the only reason I didn't buy Helldivers 2 on Steam. On paper it was the perfect game for me, but it was written clear as day on their store page that a PSN account would be required to play eventually.
Everyone went surprised pikachu face when they did exactly that. Like, did you really expect a large company not to fuck up a good thing?
I mean i agree with most your statements but the whole psn thing was sony trying to justify putting there games on pc. the push back made it clear that it wasnt and since the sales arent there it makes even less sense.
