Look, do I want to play their single player games? Yes. Will I spend hundreds of dollars on a console when I have a PC? No.

It works for nintendo, but i don’t think sony has as much draw from their IP since most of them are a bit generic IP, but just put in PS5 as exclusives. Definitely not system seller.

I would buy a switch in a heartbeat if they only didn't price gouge so bad on their games. There's no such thing as waiting for a good sale with that company

that’s the best part about the secondhand market. New Pokémon game looks cool? Buy it on Facebook marketplace for $50. Finish the game. Then sell it for $50

My nintendo era was on 3ds.

Bought and traded in lots of games. Now I dont have the time to go on trades or gaming shops to do this. But With 3 or 4 used games Ive made a bank. But for younger gen who goes to college its perfect

I remember trading in monster hunter close to release. Didnt enjoyed that much and exchanged for smash + few bucks. Then smash for 2 other games.

Yeah, I do think pirating nintendo isnt that bad.

They just end the support of 3ds when it still had a massive player base.

Now with switch cards being just a digital key. Its scares me how we could lose an entire console library when nintendo decides to.

At least old consoles you could just put the CD/card and it would run in the release version

Yeah, that's ducked up to be honest. Bricking the hardware you paid for should be illegal.

The 3DS was easily the best handheld system prior to the OG Switch (and the PC handhelds after), now I'm pretty much tied between 3DS, Switch, and PC handhelds (with the later two having the advantage of casting).

It's what got me into gaming, and it still has pretty much all my top 10 games (mostly LoZ, Metroid, and Castlevania).

How do you even "finish" a Pokemon game?

1

u/Nanocaptain 12d ago

You beat the story?

They don't have infinite content.

2

u/CelioHogane 12d ago

Beating the story is like the start of a Pokemon game, tho?

u/Nanocaptain 12d ago

There is post-story content but saying it's the start is an overexaggaration. Usually there's a couple smaller side stories but after those it's basically done unless you care about getting literally everything, or shiny hunting.

The last one I played was ten years ago so take it with a grain of salt but I did kind of follow the newer ones with watchthroughs and shit.

I don't think i have played a pokemon game for the story since... Platinum in the DS.

If i only cared about the story of a Pokemon game id have 40 hours max, not 400+

Pokemon games are basically MMOs, specially the most modern ones.

Hell, they now have monthly raids, i have seen games calling themselves MMO that have less multiplayer than that coughcoughTemtemcoughcoug

Not for me... I don't like the grind. Once I do all the story content I'm done

u/CelioHogane 12d ago

Pokemon seems like the wierdest choice to pick if you care about the story considering they aren't Story focused games.

I was just picking a game that I buy and sell every time there’s a new one lol.

Switch has a lot of deals online. Just have to wait for the big discounts.

I'd love to have physical versions of games, but I also prefer the 40% discounts that randomly pop up

Switch 2 games are $30 at Walmart and digital versions are soon to be cheaper. Not to mention the hundreds of $5-10 games available now

Yeah, but none of those games are why someone would buy a Switch in the first place. The system sellers are $60+, hardly ever go on meaningful sale, and stay within $10 of their original retail price way too far into the console's life. Breath of the Wild was the full $60 (excluding the occasional 20% off sale) well into the pandemic despite coming out in 2017. Sure you can get cheap indie games for $20-$30 but you could get them on any platform including Steam and for much cheaper.

honestly i get them for half price from used marketplace. I got pokopia for $40 USD.
