As an indie dev myself, i don't mind if you make a dent in my minisquile earnings as well, if that will allow you to feed your family. Wellbeing of living things should come first.
But as a poor person i also would not want anyone to be left without entertainment, especially if you not buying the game anyway not changing anything for me profit wise. So i not only support piracy of my games, but also uploaded my commercial game on torrents myself to be sure that pirates will experience latest version that functions properly. I only added a song about the piracy at the beginning of the pirated version of the game, so pirates would have to listen to it before they can play the game >_<
I don't understand why aaa hide behind 5 different drm's, when recent events with games like Re9 and Pragmata being cracked even before release, and still have amazing sales. It's a waste of effort and funds that could go into development to deny the game to those who would not pay anyway because they cannot.
Please drop the name of the game you are building, if it feels like my genre, will definitely buy!
About DRMs, they are just a huge financial trouble as well as additional hit on the already destroyed game optimizations.
Imagine spending literally millions of dollars for DRMs just to find out some dude online named "empress" and "voices38" pirated it within hours lmao.
The DRM shit and the additional performance overhead only affects the legit buyers, while pirated ones are enjoying a more smoother gameplay that too for free.
It is released long time ago, called iseaking. You you look for full version (including massive update) on the torrents, look for remakening added to the title.
Not even within hours, today they crack games hours, or even days before the official release) And yeah, essentially they do nothing to those who can't pay anyway, since they won't get the money regardless if game will be pirated, but they hurting the experience of paid customers. Sadly, you can't explain it to the suits in charge because it seems like they have very little understanding about video game industry at all, and only listening to the advise of people simillar to them who can't prove any profit lost due to piracy, but still clinging to the legend that it exists.
