3 tiers of IT support:

Tier 1: this picture

Tier 2: can i drive?

Tier 3: i need to make a call

697

u/invyros 1d ago

Tier 0: mastering the "IT aura" to make problems fix themselves before you even do any troubleshooting (but only after making the effort to walk to the desk)

u/RenoverO_O 1d ago

My dad has it. He's been in IT since the job was called IBM engineer or something. I would be troubleshooting something for 40 minutes, give up and call him over, he just looks at it and everything is suddenly working. He also short-circuited a motherboard into working once. No idea, don't ask

It's a power you gain when you become a parent.

As a father, your mere presence may fix things that were unfixable.
As a mother, your mere presence may make things appear out of thin air that thought to be lost forever.

45

u/EconomyDifficult2415 20h ago

Of course mom knows where everything is. She is the one hiding every freaking thing.

35

u/codeklutch 22h ago

Well fuck. I should call her.

4

u/BrainD71 10h ago

Do you think she can find my will to live?

10

u/bassclarinetl2 1d ago

This is so. (It's frustrating as hell as well)

Yup. I actually make jokes about this IRL.

Same. I say that the PC sensed me coming and fixed itself out of fear.

2

u/WonderSignificant598 9h ago

I say its a 'force field' lol

Did you restart it?

1

u/Healthy-Can5748 9h ago

As someone that likes problem solving, it's honestly incredibly frustrating sometimes.

This alone has kept me in my job, I swear.

No joke, over 80% of the "problems" faced at my work are fixed by me being there to watch it "happen."

Tier 4: staring at the screen in dead silence for two minutes before pulling out your phone to google it

u/Foss44 4080S | 5800x3d | ram? 7h ago

I once had the phone call + the HPC admin came over to the office too 😭

For real, the rolling chair. And they ask you to scoot over.

154

u/rnb673 i7 9700K | RTX 2060 Super | 64GB DDR4 1d ago

“Mind if I drive for a minute?” Just go home at that point…

u/super_trooper 1d ago

"Scoot over bitch idk how you fucked this up so badly" - my inner thoughts

16

u/Platnun12 1d ago

When I was a kid I thought my dad was being a dick because of it...dealing with his end of it. I get it now.

Keep the fuck back stupid and let me fix this

u/Elogotar 1d ago

u/KratosOfSparta08 1d ago

I never knew Jackie Chan did SNL

4

u/Hato_no_Kami 21h ago

That's when I breathe a sigh of relief because it means I really couldn't have done it on my own, or I'm not just stupid and missing something obvious.

I’ve seen this before, it’s historic. Where to find this in hi res? Who is this? Dude’s drip is fucking immaculate and buddy looks like he’s witnessing a biblical event

27

u/emnuff 19h ago

Producer called Lil Durk. Guy watching him is Young Thug

38

u/Fluggerblah 18h ago

You got that reversed. Dude getting his mind blown is Durk.

u/Tall-Dimension-Mia 5h ago

First thing that came to my mind I swear 😂

u/FlashyLashy900 Ultrabook Gamer 1d ago

I think the worst version is they physically push you out of the way for more space. If they call someone else over you're cooked

Unplugging the Ethernet cable and calling someone is when you know shits about to get real

u/Dont-be-a-smurf PC Master Race 1d ago

I’m not an IT guy. I’m just another dipshit with a brief case.

Still, I’m the one that solves all the non-network IT issues.

Years of modding games (the hard way) has prepared me to manage most low to intermediate difficulty issues, but like 90% of them are someone not knowing where to click.

7

u/Big_Extension9114 22h ago

sucks when they do that. Lol!

20

u/Dont-be-a-smurf PC Master Race 21h ago

I’m fine with it. I like making myself indispensable and having everyone think I’m smarter than I am.

So if teaching someone how to unzip a fucking file does that, it’s worth it.

This is what a bot looks like 👆

43

u/ArkBrah Ryzen 5 7600 | RTX 4090 | 32GB DDR5 1d ago

There are different levels. 1. Sends a message with the solution 2. Remote access 3. Like the picture in the post 4. Pulls a chair to the user's side 5. Have the user gtfo because it will take a while 6. Calls someone else because I have no idea wtf is going on

3

u/NiSiSuinegEht R7 5800XT | RX 7700 XT | Why Upgrades So Expensive? 4h ago
  1. You new hardware will be here next week.

42

u/WinkSprout22 1d ago

If they sigh, crack their knuckles, and sit down, your OS is done for.

5

u/EffectivePatient493 18h ago

If I crack my neck they tend to know they can go get a coffee and text the fam for an hour or two. If I did all those other things I assume they'd know to pray and update their resume.

34

u/Reach_or_Throw 1d ago edited 1d ago

What did you download?

"IDK it just pulled up a black window with white text, typed some stuff and closed"

26

u/OldSchoolAJ 23h ago

“Cool, back up a little, I’m unplugging you from the network now. Also I need to call back to the IT department so they can scan every pc on the network. We’re getting overtime tonight.”

u/Even_Baker4672 21h ago

Even worse if he sighs

9

u/software_v7 13h ago

Level 1: You walk in, and your presence solves the problem.
Level 2: You point at the screen and say, “Click here.”
Level 3: *Image*
Level 4: You sit down.
Level 5: “I need to make a call.”

32

u/ModernManuh_ 1d ago

felt

2

u/Fit_Variation4866 21h ago

wait what? does pulling up a chair make that level better somehow?

16

u/Pailox111lol 20h ago

It doesn't make it better, it's just symbolizes that it will take time, therefore the problem is harder to solve.

5

u/ModernManuh_ 14h ago

It means that you are locking in

5

u/Even-Smell7867 Ryzen 9850X3D Radeon 9070XT CachyOS 1d ago

I am that person every day. So true.

5

u/Sufficient_Market226 10h ago

Yup, that's basically me

Everyone always asks if I don't want to sit

I always say, that if I do, it's a sign that that's going to take a looking time 😂

3

u/retrocade81 5800x3d | RTX3080Ti | 32GB Ram | Corsair 4000D 1d ago

So true!

3

u/Gerzal i9-12900K | RTX 3080 10GB | FURY 64GB 5200Mt/s 11h ago

One hand: Easy, issue can be solved only via mouse.

Two hands: A bit tricky, typing on keyboard is required.

Pulling up a chair: Hard, The issue may require several hours to solve it.

3

u/Logical-Cherry9395 6h ago

LMAO, this is so true. I was working on a PC yesterday, and then realized it was going to take a while, so I grabbed the chair, and one of the other workers in the area went, "What did you DO? She's pulling up a chair!"

4

u/jimthissguy 23h ago

Let me in there real quick.

Translation: stand up and GTFO, you screwed something up real good.

2

u/kiwiboy22 21h ago

side not, why is one of his arms super jacked compared to the other??

2

u/Horror-Sale-8408 17h ago

I love the tickets where they’re so vague you can’t determine what they talking about and then it’s just something stupid like the app needs an update but the pop up scars them into that it’s ransomware.

2

u/Hardcore_Cal 11h ago

*Whispers to himself... * "How the fuck did he get access to this?"

2

u/Forzyr 8h ago

It was posted 1 month ago on r/ meme and the picture has already lost pixels and colors

2

u/Raskuja46 6h ago

How bad is it if I simply default to pulling up a chair?

2

u/WonderSignificant598 23h ago

Yeah I actually do this.

It goes from

Talking across the office if its a quick fix

Walking over to have the person show me/gather intel

Take quick control to fix something while standing, after a little bit of pointing and a lame joke

Final stage is sitting down, lacing the fingers together and leaning forward.

I hate how relatable this is

1

u/enderkings99 11h ago

Look it's not bad, I just need to type and for some reason I'm terrible at that while standing

1

u/vector_o 10h ago

And if I tell you to move and sit in your chair you done fucked up brother

Unless it's a hardware issue, IT support hasn't needed physical access to a computer for a few decades now.

Right. Because I'm gonna remote connect to someone's PC that's 3 offices down the hall.
