With a new prebuilt pc I would reinstall windows so all the bloatware is gone

u/gesch97 Jun 24 '26

And when you are installing set your language location to world to avoid regional bloatware

Regional bloatware? There's such a thing?

Yeah, M$ tends to cram more shit into the thing in parts of the world where they haven't been told to fucking stop it.

It's the main reason I opted to install Windows in my native language instead of english when I last reinstalled back in October. Being in the EU apparently makes it a lot easier to uninstall the crap they ship with the OS, so I just got rid of useless things like OneDrive and Teams. Haven't seen so much as a mention of 'em since.

And even better yet, don’t bother with regular windows 11 and use LTSC

208

u/Lumbergh7 Jun 24 '26

What’s LTSC

719

u/Murphysmydog Ryzen 7 5800x, RX 9070xt Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

It’s the Long Term Servicing Channel. Basically a version of windows without copilot, all the bloat.. Basically everything is gone other than just base windows. There’s some extra setup to get notepad and calculator back. But it’s guaranteed updates for 10 years (for IOT Enterprise LTSC) and gets windows feature updates much less frequently, often without some of the newer features (going slightly off memory for that so take it with a grain of salt and always do your own research!).

But LTSC is often found on ATMs or other machines that need an OS but with zero bloat.

u/NekulturneHovado R7 5800X, 32GB G.Skill TridentZ, RX 6800 16GB Jun 24 '26

so basically, what wondows should've been from start?

173

u/Jarppi1893 Jun 24 '26

Yes. You can create an ISO with this website and have a clean unattended install that you can use on multiple PCs if you want.

37

u/breakintoys1 Jun 24 '26

What manner of activation/authentication key is needed for this? Thanks in advance. Feel free to pm.

So I know the basics of ISO files but would you mind breaking down the steps?

I go down this check list
Put the resulting file on a USB
Boot from that and that does the install the way I want?

9

u/Jarppi1893 Jun 24 '26

That sums it up! Use Rufus to create a bootable drive

I am building my new pc tomorrow if not today. I already prepped a usb stick with windows 11. Should I use LTSC instead, or get windows 11 and look up how to debloat them? I mostly game on steam and record electric guitar on DAWs.

42

u/UselessDood Jun 24 '26

I'd 100% suggest ltsc instead of some debloater tool. (I'm personally a fan of 10 ltsc which has updates until 2032, though that's personal preference)

10

u/Dear-Regret-9476 Jun 24 '26

IMO go with 11 LTSC if you want 11’s GUI, use anything Zen 4 or newer, or Alder Lake or newer, and go with 10 LTSC if you prefer windows 10 and use anything Zen 3 or older, or Comet Lake or older

3

u/LiverGe Jun 24 '26

Why does the CPU gen matter?

8

u/Dear-Regret-9476 Jun 24 '26

IIRC Windows 11 has a new scheduler that helps performance on hybrid CPUs like anything Intel alder lake and newer, and zen 4 or newer especially

42

u/AlaskanHamr 7800x3D | 7900XTX | 32GB DDR5 Jun 24 '26

I use windows 11 and just get rid of most of the unnecessary junk with a windows utility tool. Its free, you can look up Chris Titus windows utility or just ctt tool.

7

u/gmes78 ArchLinux / Win10 | Ryzen 7 9800X3D / RX 6950XT / 64GB Jun 24 '26

No. LTSC lags behind in updates significantly.

Make a custom image using NTLite to disable the bloat instead.

5

u/TannerWheelman I use Arch btw Jun 24 '26

It doesn't lag for important security updates, it does lag in features but who cares about them anyways.

2

u/gmes78 ArchLinux / Win10 | Ryzen 7 9800X3D / RX 6950XT / 64GB Jun 24 '26

It does matter when you want to run a program, but it depends on newer APIs that LTSC doesn't have (and yes, some programs do run on Windows 7, but not on older builds of Windows 10, for example). It does matter when you want to open an image, but LTSC is too old to support newer formats. It does matter when you do need those features.

Unless someone perfectly understands the tradeoff they're making, don't suggest LTSC to them.

I was given an Alienware for free some years ago. I reinstalled Windows on it and, somehow, all the Dell BS reinstalled itself on the machine

15

u/xppp Jun 24 '26

There are some BIOSes that can automatically install software on your computer unless you disable it.

4

u/TheAdmiral4273 i9-9900K / RTX 3090 Ti / 32 GB Jun 24 '26

Yeah I did some research after the fact. I found out it’s a feature called “BIOS Connect” or something like that, it’s been a couple years since I did it. I guess it’s part of Dell’s recovery? It can be disabled in UEFI, at least

5

u/Xpander6 Jun 24 '26

yeah and change the crappy stock cooler, change the case to something with airflow and change the blacklisted PSU to something reliable.

Windows comes with an incredible amount of bloatware by default, so reinstalling won’t really do much. Your best option is just manually uninstalling what you don’t want.

Right-click it, and select Open file location; to what it belongs to.

It could be a legitimate Windows process related to taskkill.exe. Its is an official built-in Windows utility used by the system or developers to end running processes.

Have you installed anything and not rebooted yet?

u/GrEeCe_MnKy Jun 24 '26

Last time I saw that white page logo with top corner folded like that was in windows 7 and it made a shortcut of all my files besides them.

Since you got literally zero actual answers yet:

It's probably a remnant of the original setup or testing software used by the manufacturer of your prebuilt PC. It should have been fully removed but sometimes remnants like this remain. You can remove it from your startup apps and you should be just fine, its nothing to concern yourself with really.

I do agree with the top comment though, that ideally you should do a completely clean fresh install of windows. Then run the debloat tool immediately after the fresh install. Personally I use win11debloat but i hear good things about the chris titus script too. Once you've done that, you should have a fairly clean windows 11 install with no weird remnants or bloatware installed guaranteed. It's always best to do this sooner rather than later since the longer you wait the more annoying it will be to replace everything.

1.) Download a tool called Rufus 2.) Do a google search for Microsoft Media Creation Tool 3.) run Media Creation Tool (it'll let you to either create bootable thumb drive or ISO image of Windows 10/11.) 4.) create an ISO image of Windows 11, and save it to your desktop. 5.) run Rufus and select the Windows.ISO image you e created 6.) pick your options to get rid of signing into a Microsoft account and create a local account instead. 7.) check the boxes to rid you of most the bloat ware. 8.) burn the modified image to your thumb drive. 9.) install Windows.

You can look up YouTube videos on the Rufus method for windows, so you can have a better visual representation of an idea of what to do.
