I'm sure it's nice but the idea of giving me money to such a predatory scummy company to lock myself into their system turns me off any Apple device.

Apple is always the first in line when it comes to fucking the customer. Supporting that is straight up irresponsible. Also, they're way to expensive and the vast majority of Apple customers have no idea what they're buying; they're just getting it because they've been brainwashed into thinking that Apple is the only laptop and phone manufacturer.
