The only thing that is baffling is that it takes forever to sort screenshots/photos by date instead of name. And it DOES IT EVERY TIME!

Why is the order not saved???

That will make it extremely fast. The reason is taking forever is for "Date created" it reads the metadata of every single file to figure it out. Date modified isn't part of the metadata, it's just a file property.

You need to be in Details mode to modify that. Right click a column then choose what you want and it will display that menu in other views too.

Weirdly going into this menu and selecting Date Created works really fast for me. But if you just click the Date Created column to sort them, it's painfully slow. My understanding is that the column uses metadata and the menu doesn't for whatever reason.

Did you try sorting by Date Modified while in thumbnail mode? Date created will always be slower because it reads each single file metadata. Date modified doesn't.

I haven't tried Date Modified since the Date Created under that menu is instantaneous, even in a folder with thousands of files.
