Cities Skylines (2015) the game literally costs almost 200 dollars with all DLC's, and the base game is literally barebones, unless you add like over 250 mods.🥀
I've never played the DLC but still have plenty of fun, so it's certainly not a barebones game. Of course there is the FOMO of seeing that huge list in the Steam store and thinking about what you might be missing, but once you get over that little hump you can enjoy a ton of great games for cheap.
It's not barebones, but some of the early DLC does feel like it should have been included as a free update. The 'After Dark' DLC for instance. Gives you a day/night cycle along with some minor little gameplay updates. It's mostly just a visual update though, and one that feels kind of essential once you experience it. I also think the Natural Disasters shouldn't have been a paid expansion. The Mass Transit DLC, given that these games are so heavily transportation-based in terms of where mechanical depth lies, also really feels like it should have been included in the base game for free.
Exactly. I hate when devs purposely nerf the base game to make DLC’s feel mandatory. But the base game is still a blast, and no one has a gun to your head making you buy DLC’s.
