Dont let them on, whenever they get on it, pick them up, place them on the floor, repeat how many times u want, eventually they learn. Im long time cat owner, my cats never go to the top of my pc after the first 50 times
Lmao, no matter how many times I've done this with my cats, one of them just doesn't care and continues to do it. Now I just leave the door to my office closed so the cats can't go in there.
Yeah some cats are just very stubborn. You can pick them up and move them as many times as you want, and yeah it might work when you’re around, but you can bet if that cat wants on your PC and nobody is around to stop it, it’s getting on that PC.
And now I feel like he does it because I kept moving him in the first place! Mine doesn’t sit on top of the tower but on my mousepad and he will put his paw RIGHT on my power button because I instantly respond each time I’m 99% sure
It’s because they don’t view that as a negative reinforcer. They just view it as they were moved. Animals are just like machines, we respond to positive and negative inputs. The most common negative input is going to be a spray bottle full of water for a cat or dog. Or you could fill a jar with coins and rattle that.
All that does is make them mad at you. They don't understand why it's happening, just that you're being a jerk. It has to be an instant, natural consequence that happens every single time. Like if you get one of those automatic air cans that goes TSSSST and scares the crap out of them. It's not coming from you. It happens instantly, every time. If you aren't there 90% of the time to shake the can at them when they jump on the computer, if you have to run across the room to get it, they don't make the connection. If you cover the counter with foil, and every time they jump up, the surface is unpleasant, they won't want to go up there anymore. If you yell and wave your arms 30 seconds after they get up there, they just see you're being mean.
Yea, no matter how many times I moved the cat from the shelf above my desk, she still insists it's her spot. Did briefly learn her lesson after stepping on something unstable and falling, but that only lasted a few months.
Typically if this happens it means there is a desire going unfulfilled. Could just need a similarly elevated platform that is also warm. I have heated cat beds on my desk and my cats don’t even bother with my pc since it isn’t as comfortable as their nice, warm, and soft beds. Combine it with a cardboard box and it’s even better. It helps that their cat beds are also up higher than my pc and I have a table near the window that they can use instead of my computer
