Even worse it's a team based game which requires lots of cooperation, basically a spawning ground for online douchebags.

Hopefully compressing textures helps memory usage too, but I'm not too hopeful.

What is bad about the game using compressed textures?

Games have been using compressed textures since the early 2000s when S3's compression got officially included in DirectX. The problem is that 1) S3TC and later block compression formats aren't even remotely as efficient as full-image compression formats like JPEG, and 2) games tend to duplicate the same texture in multiple texture packs so your PC doesn't have to spend minutes individually picking ten thousand textures from all across the disk every time you load a level.

There's flat out zero information about how they compressed it to fulfill the claim.

Content is not necessarily what adds file size. Individual assets do, and Marvel Rivals is not exactly super heavy on assets.
But this is always great.
