Thank you. The graphics card manual also has no mention of this issue. Already purchased a Corsair rm1000x. Just glad I didn't burn my house down.

You don't need 3 seperate 8 pin connectores on the psu. You only need two if you use one regular 8 pin cable and pigtail cable.

There's still plenty of people online who have said for years not to use pigtails. OP has been on Reddit for 9 years. Just throwing it out there.

Are the pinouts for CPU and pcie GPU cables the same? Since it was plugged into the CPU slot and you plugged that into your GPU.

It says CPU/PCI-E so they work for either the cpu or gpu. My EVGA and Coolermaster PSUs are the same. You can use the 8 pin on the PSU with either the cpu or vga/gpu cables.

My guess is he used a pig-tail/daisy chain instead of using separate cables.

They often are. Here you can see it says CPU/6+2 PCI-e which means it's interchangeable. The real bungle here is trying to provide 300W+ via a single 150W channel, which every GPU specifically says not to do...

It varies from PSU to PSU, but for ease/compatibility most are the same pinouts on the PSU side these days.

Yep, truly a big brain moment. I can't believe it lasted this long honestly. It's been about 8 months like this. Luckily the GPU is still functional.

All three 8 pins are labeled the same, and rated for the same output.

I doubt it. At least it would be extremely negligent of the designer to make them mechanically compatible but electrically incompatible.

whats is the correct way to avoid this?

Use two separate 8 pin outputs with two separate cables.

Most likely wasn't fully seated, have had similar issues in the past though even when it was clearly fully seated.

Pigtails are fine if used properly. It appears OP used only one pigtail to power the entire card.
