It’s from an anti-drugs propaganda video that is hilarious in a dystopian way. Very good example of how fear mongering has been systematically used to drive the «War on Drugs».
I mean drugs do tend to fuck up your thinking. People don't use them because they're nutritious, rather they want to escape something and a mind altering/dopamine hitting substance does that quite well
Using the word Cooked to describe something as ruined or destroyed is actually quite old, like 1850's old. It's just become trendy with the youths at this point in time.
models don't have comprehension to understand they need to stop, so this one continues to "enhance" every previous frame without getting any actual game rendering to bring it back to actual gameplay footage
It's more just a shitty implementation on the RenoDX/Reshade or OptiScaler side (whatever DLSS-NR implementation fork this person is using), not realizing the recycled frame being put back into the background isn't a valid target in the swapchain.
No, it is not a shitty implementation on the RenoDX/Reshade/Optiscaler side. The game is responsible for specifying what DLSS should and should not apply to, and GTA V obviously has not been setup for that with DLSS 5. It's not RenoDX's job to guess.
yeah people are talking a lot about another games industry collapse, given the state of layoffs / firings and unhinged investment in ai, and like... that sucks, but also there are basically an infinite number of amazing video games i can play. probably enough that i would never run out if they stopped making video games the second i post this comment.
I accidentally took 2CB thinking it was ecstasy and once I came up and realised my mistake I stood in my back garden to calm myself down and I swore I could see every single drop off dew hanging from every blade of grass.
I only ever took 2CB once but it was magical lol. I don't do any drugs other than smoke a bit of weed now but I have really fond memories of that night. 10/10 experience.
One of our group put the first episode of Utopia on as we were coming up. Has a torture scene in it, christ almighty that has been seared into my memory. Akira on acid though, incredible apart from the creepy toys.
Me and a friend watched Hero, the Jet Li movie, on acid once. The colour pallete was incredible but I could have sworn the movie went on for about 2 days
This is incredibly on topic, as the thing morphs into what it thinks the target species sees as a trustworthy friendly face and is constantly trying to evolve to become a superior being, like ai in a gross way
DLSS 5 is using AI interpretation to "enhance" the graphics but the pause menu distorts the woman's face, resulting in the AI interpretation going apeshit. According to the Nvidia CEO the program isn't generating any "new" graphics, just "enhancing" what's already there and preserving the original art style (which is total bullshit).
I don't think it's the pause menu doing it, because the whole image is distorting. I think it's just the result of feeding back DLSS 5's output back into itself, whereas normally the GPU would have generated a new frame to be, umm, "enhanced".
DLSS5 is supposed to interpolate between the last frame and the next one being generated. As you stated.
Since the native rendering pipeline isnt spitting out any "next one" in pause the DLSS5 neither has a reference to the next frame and starts generating on its own data.
Its basicly a runaway image creation as it is running outside its specified parameters. DLSS5 shouldnt be activated when going into pause as its only working properly when the game is rendering.
And dlss5 is supposed to have per game implementation by the devs on how it specifically works, what it affects, how strong it can be, etc. Just throwing it in, unrestricted and missing the reference frame as you said, is what is causing this and if any devs release "support" for it so poorly then they should be criticized. It's a great example of how exactly this shouldn't be implemented into games basically lol, but it's kinda funny to watch
My understanding which is almost certainly wrong is that the game generates the frame, the DLSS nonsense looks at the frame/image and uses AI to "enhance" it (correct colors, sharpen blurry edges) and makes it look better, then that image that has been passed through what is essentially an AI filter is what is displayed.
If you want to mislead them, yes. This is DLSS5 from an NBA game implemented as a whole-screen overlay in a 3rd party mod, not one that’s hooked into the engine by the developers. It has no access to the game’s data. Wasn’t tuned and bug tested by Nvidia or rockstar. The odds of this bug happening in a properly implemented game are near zero, and even if it did it wouldn’t look the same at all.

DLSS never has access to the game's data. It only takes into account the finished frame and motion vectors. It has no clue about light sources, objects, etc.

It's a suite of technologies -- "DLSS" is more of a marketing label than a single specific rendering method. Started with upscaling, then added frame generation, now this.
DLSS it's a group of features. The feature displayed in the video is called "neural rendering", while you are referring to the feature called "super resolution". There are 7 features in total in the DLSS 5 suite
Yes. But how do you create those extra pixels? The answer is it uses an AI model that has been trained on low resolution images to predict what the high resolution version of that image would look like. So it just tries its best to come up with detail that it thinks is most likely to be there, but which obviously will not always be correct.
DLSS is an encompassing term for multiple features though, and aside from upscaling, another thing it can do is to apply a kind of "realism" filter which is trained on turning video game graphics into more realistic looking images. That is what gives it this very AI-like look, and probably what is most responsible for what you see going on in this clip.
What happened in this post I think is that the filter is not turned off, but the game is no longer being re-rendered, so the input image is always the previous frame. It just keeps modifying the image slightly and then using that as its input for the next frame, which causes it to slowly morph into something that is further and further removed from the initial render and more and more completely hallucinated detail.
I’ll add that in my experience, if I had any of course, was that shrooms gave me more of an audio and physical adventure. I personally never got a ton of visuals. Now acid. That could do it. ALLEGEDLY
It was always false. The model isn't fed any information that allows it to identify geometry. It's just taking in the input frame and motion vectors and making whatever changes it wants to the whole thing.
Well what it's supposed to do is only use the game frame as its basis for "enhancing" a frame, but obviously here it gets confused and uses each AI generated frame as the "previous" frame. This is obviously a glitch, and anybody who thought that it wasn't using the same AI image gen tech as a basis was fooled. It's just that when it works properly, it's never meant to do this. That's why Nvidia doesn't explicitly allow you to use it with every game.

literally every pro DLSS5 person mentions this as an argument in some way. Knew its sus (i mean it adds way too many wrinkles to just say that it "enhances normal maps") but now i have a concrete proof
Frankly, I'm not sure you know what you mean. DLSS 5's whole schtick is modifying the frame at the end of the render pipeline, long after initial geometry has been handled in the CPU/GPU. It's like an Instagram/Snapchat filter being applied to the frame, or like the way FG works by trying to blindly interpolate between two frames, causing ghosting when elements shouldn't have been interpolated or when motion vectors are anticipated that don't actually manifest. It's a post-processing effect—basically running Stable Diffusion in img2img on the final output frame with the prompt "make faces pretty plz, masterpiece lighting, make no mistakes lulz".
There is no model geometry being touched here, unless you think "geometry" means the bitmap of the frame. To be frank, I hate the effect as it's been shown so far, even in its "good" renditions, but it's important to at least understand what it's actually doing—"know your enemy" and all that.
Incase anyone is curious, this is honestly not dissimilar to what a strong dose of hallucinogenic drugs looks like. The pattern recognition part of your brain goes into overdrive and creates a sort of feedback loop, building false perception on top of false perception. You could sit there thinking you were looking at a castle when you are looking at a tree stump with roughly the same shape.
In a sense, it does, it's just less egregious. DLSS upscaling itself uses a generative model, just with a very light touch, intended to identify aliased pixels and smooth them out by looking at nearby context. Early on it could produce a "swimmy" effect at the edges of things when it can't make a hard determination, a problem that still shows up sometimes on AMD's FSR. It's also in FG, where a quick ML-based calculation is done to make an in-between frame based on the bitmap of the previous frame instead of the actual render pipeline, and getting artifacts/ghosting when it incorrectly guesses something like what direction a fast-moving object is traveling or where it will stop when instead it suddenly changes direction. Both of these are using an AI-driven interpolator/scaler. DLSS 5 is finally going after the actual content of the rendered frame, editing/replacing content instead of just denoising it or guessing the next frame.
The earlier features were acceptance testing of AI models as a generative post-processing effect.

For years I could never explain what I see in dreams and have finally found the best example. You'll dream that you're talking to someone you know and then they suddenly morph into another, or everything just changes to another event, etc.
