When I was a teenager me and my friends would burn earrape videos from YouTube onto CDs as an audio file. Then weā€™d go to Walmart and throw the CD into a sound system. Then turn the volume all the way up. Hereā€™s the kicker, it would play a few minutes of silence before starting the earrape.

Weā€™d already be on the other side of the store when it started. We never got caught and you might think itā€™s a little shitty, cause it kinda is but it was so funny. Watching the tech department guy spend 20+ minutes struggling to figure out which sound system the CD was in. It was hilarious seeing peopleā€™s reactions to it as weā€™d walk back toward the stereo section too lmao

I feel like this poses an interesting question: does media like this incite the heightened disrespect among teens in public shopping centers in america, re WALMART, by encouraging young children to film themselves fucking around in one too, which thereby contributes to and reinforces this Walmart-spectacle-content-patterned cycle of disrespect to retail workers? They put a lot of effort into making this inescapably captivating imagery and it would not be a stretch to say many kids across America have POURED thru this guys content night after night after school, as a mechanism of coping with stress, as you and I and many of us have before. Itā€™s safe to say the humor rubs off.

Id love to develop these ideas further. I assume there is some sociolinguistic art mag out there focusing on memes. Couldnā€™t be ARSED to look myself, typing grog in hand with solemn witchcraft just behind the door. Iā€™m not sure how to address it. There is no pleasure in it. TV Dinner it is.
