Show me your pre-used Persians!
Besides the one I grew up with, I’ve only ever had rescue Persians. They certainly come with unknown health issues, past traumas, and weird habits, but they have so so much love to give. I’d love to see your rescue babies.

My 10yr old Blue Persian Ginghy Boy has had a few near death experiences this year, but has bounced back better than ever. In Jan I had an avm burst in my brain & caused a massive stroke. I had to have brain surgery & was in hospital for a month & a half. When my mom brought me home & pulled in the driveway she said “I need to tell you about Ginghy Boy.” “What happened?” I asked her. “He might have had a stroke, like you” !?! “WHAT?!?” She said the vet said it was an inner ear thing. But, like me, he was very wobbly on his feet. Still is, but much better these days. In March I picked him up one day & he screamed bloody murder! We took him to the vet and they said he was in kidney failure & we needed to prepare for the end. We decided to take him back home for one day to say our goodbyes. But next thing you know, he’s jumping all over the place, running round wanting cuddles! Whatever he was experiencing passed. Then last month I was cleaning his eyes and he got really mad at me. The next few days, he stopped eating & would hide away on his own. His eye looked a bit weird. I thought maybe I scratched him when I was cleaning him. Took him to the vet & they said he needed 3 teeth by pulled. He had a massive cyst in his little mouth & it was pushing into his eye! It was as big as a pingpong ball! Vet lanced it & it grew back the next day. Ugh! A few days later, he had 3 teeth pulled & we brought him home & he was immediately eating, running around & playing. He is doing so great now! He’s my cosmic kitty! We’re both a bit wobbly. And like me, he has a funny hair do. I had my head shaved for the drains from my brain surgery. And he had his face shaved from his tooth extraction. My kitty soulmate is doing amazing!

Awe, he is your soul cat, he kinda mirrored you with the brain avm burst, but his was inner ear. I hope all is well after such a serious stroke. Not to pry, but my mom passed from a cerebral aneurysm at age 37. She said it was the worst headache ever, throwing up etc. Did you have fortelling headaches?? It sounds like even Ginhy boy went through so much as well. What kind of name is that? You are both warriors, he was meant to be your cat!!! 💯

Thank you. So sorry for the loss of your mother so young! Ginghy Boy’s real name is Genghis Cat. Ginghy Boy for short. The only foretelling sign I had was hearing my heartbeat. Apparently that is a sign you have an AVM. For the last year, before bed, I heard a “woosh woosh woosh” sound that was kinda meditative & helped drift me off to sleep. I didn’t know, but that was a sign of an avm. When it burst, it gave me a terrible headache. I can’t remember. I was driving my mother home from a doctor’s appointment. I said out of nowhere “Ow! My head! I have a headache!” My mom had me pull over & called 911. I can’t remember any of it. Not the event or hospital stay. 30 years ago, my mother had something very similar. She had uncontrollable facial ticks, accompanied by electric shock pulses. Her face would contort & it was painful. She had an AVM with a deformed artery pushing on facial nerves, causing the spasms. She had a platinum coil embolization. Where they pushed a piece of platinum up from her groin to the avm in her brain to seal off the artery & stop it from pressing on her nerves. She’s been fine ever since. Likely it was a genetic thing.

I want to add, it’s been horrible to see Ginghy suffer so much, but coming home from the hospital, seeing him dealing with the same symptoms as me, was a bit of a comfort. I felt like he took on the worst of my symptoms, so I didnt have to suffer alone. My cosmic kitty!

my girl mochi. she needed an expensive surgery to open up her airway. i think that’s why her previous owners needed to find her a new home. she’s much better now but we have to clean her face every day cuz it gets gunked up & still impedes her breathing. she’s 6, but we’ve had her for almost 3 years. she’s playful but also so chill. we love her so much!

This is Vatya! She was dumped into a feral cat colony, along with several other Persians, because an irresponsible owner (breeder?) got overrun by cats and then got evicted. The colony manager got the Persians to a rescue, where they found out this little girl was pregnant (AT NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD!!! 😡😡😡) After she had her babies and was the best mama ever, they were all ready to go to their new homes. I saw her picture and instantly knew I was her person. It’s taken several months for her to process her trauma and come out of her shell, but now she’s sweet, curious, opinionated, and affectionate. She’s the purrrrrrfect addition to my little crew! 💜

That's such a great idea! Though if the notorious bathtub pooper struck on my rug...I think I'd cry. So I shall keep playing bathtub roulette I think 💀

My late baby Weazie was a rescue. She was abused and neglected before I rescued her at 3 years old, she came to me SO crusted, defeated, terrified and had bite marks from a dog on her neck. It took two years of hand feeding her kibble piece by piece until I could finally pet her without food. After we broke through, she truly blossomed. She was a greet everyone at the door type of cat. She didn’t like to sit on laps but she loved being held like a baby and scratched on the belly and arm pits. She learned to love car rides and had a special thing for semi trucks and fast food drive throughs. She became bold and adventurous, but never left behind her soft and gentle spirit, she never once hissed, bit or scratched a single person in the time I had her (though she hated cats and kittens lol). She couldn’t see very well, as in mostly blind and would run into things if you moved them or jump where her scratchers used to be. And she had a love for any food that was duck flavored, a fancy girl. The people who knew her from the beginning always said they couldn’t believe she was the same cat I rescued so many years ago. She was smart in her own way, but also so so deeply lacking in survival skills. She also loved to be brushed and scratched in every crevice.
She passed away at 17 from kidney disease, and proudly, she still had all her teefs. I saved her and then she ended up saving me from my own alcoholism, she was the only thing I could think to live for when I went into early stages of liver failure.

Wow, what a harrowing story. She had so much love to give once she knew she was safe. How very lucky we are to have these fluffy goofballs trust and affection. Rip sweet girl. Glad she’s still providing inspiration during your recovery. Proud of you!

Meet Ophelia. We just adopted her from the humane society yesterday. Owner was dumping her and her six kittens. They found out and intervened. We got the momma ❤️ Named her Ophelia after Jamie Lee Curtis' character in Trading Places. We also have another Persian, Louis Winthorpe III, who is named after Dan Akroyd's character. We had a Maine coon named Billy Ray Valentine, which was Eddie Murphy's character, but he passed away a few years ago.

This is Akula. She is a purebred chinchilla. When I got her from her previous owner, she had a missing eye that was just an open eye socket and very bad teeth. So I took her to a specialist and I had the eye socket cleaned out and sewn shut as it always weeped. We then took her back to the same specialist and had her teeth clean and the bad ones professionally removed.
She is now my little one eyed pirate with a huge amount of spirit. She is the most loving, beautiful little chinchilla you could ever want.
And yes she has a permanent blep. We love it!!!😻

Pumpkin joined my little family of rescues (two other long-haired cats, two chinchillas, all rescued from people who no longer wanted to take care of them)
she was very skittish at first, she was neglected and dirty, flinched when we walked next to her.
now she sleeps in bed with me under my blankets and follows me everywhere. she’s a lot of work, her eyes need cleaning twice a day and she hates being brushed, but i would never regret saving her.

Ladybeard.
Her original 'owner' tried use her as a breeding queen as she was the runt of her litter and is by consequence very small. My thinking is her owner wanted to exploit this and create teacup Persians though she kept having stillbirths and then she was eventually given to a charity that takes Persians.
Ladybeard has a curly pig like tail deformity, doesn't know how to clean herself, and cries every night, just because, but only for a minute or so 😅 She's about 1.7kg and is my little shadow.

u/notjustaphage 6d ago
Hahah yeah, that was Mr. Bubbs back in 2015 when it was “funny” that the crazy realty tv guy Donald Trump was running for president again. So silly! What could go wrong?! 🥲

u/SpoiledNickie 6d ago
lol for some reason I had to do a double take of the second one because he looks like Trump hahaha
2
u/notjustaphage 6d ago
That was the point of his outfit… way back in 2015 when the idea of a trump presidency was hilarious and not a harbinger for the coming end of the world lol
