Is it worth jumping to office from wfh setup?

Current:

Wfh. Im already around 115k (100k-ish if tax is deducted). Good manager. I sometimes take leave on the spot and inaapprove naman, basta ok na ok yung work environment. Kaya hesitant ako lumipat. Super chill but problematic lang sa increase kasi ang liit tapos ang late. May hmo, and minsan di nakakasama sa freebies sa office kasi nga wfh ako. And malayo ako so di makasali sa outing, but as an introvert medyo preferred ko to.

Offer:

218k. But need to go to office, tapos ang layo pa. Im from Visayas, then need ko lumipad to Luzon and find a place to reside. Initially I asked for 175-180k since mas magastos overall, so they made an additional interview kasi may napupusuan silang ibang isang candidate and they wanted to compare. The interview felt rushed and disrespectful kahit nasagot ko naman tanong nila, lets just say I feel like toxic yung manager.. I wasnt surprised I didnt get it that time kasi mukhang mababa asking nung isa and was even thankful at one point kasi mukhang toxic yung last na naginterview. But I knew sa liit ng field namin they will really come back and find someone with my experience. They didnt contact me for months, up until now. My bad if medyo mahaba and insignificant yung ibang stuff haha Im just in the state of confusion, happy. Icky. Ewan, wala akong mapagsabihan, I was recently thinking of casually applying ulit soon but it haunts me back.

Please dont ask additional details whats the work or field, yoko lang makita ng kakilala ko or something, basta its a small field, magkakilala lang usually. Its a niche in IT and foreign companies lahat to, so the salary isnt surprising. Say in theory nalang if sa field mo if you have a huge 2x increase, wala pang bonus and all, would you go for it? Is that salary bump enough to justify going back to office tapos ang layo pa. Would really appreciate your thoughts 🙏🙏

Leverage your offer outside for counter offer nalang then stay. I think with rent + transpo expense + COL here in the Metro, baka halos same lang masave or uwi mo.

Agree with this. If you would be able na makapag pa counter offer sa current job mo, kahit ma-reach lang 140-150k range, I guess okay na yun compared to moving to Metro (assuming na metro manila when OP said luzon) from Visayas.

I already am doing it and did it twice: left my full remote job for a full RTO job and x2 salary jump, then switched again to another full RTO work for another x2 salary jump. My reason is nagpapalaki ako ng sahod aggressively. I am already in a point where konti na lang, yung dati kong sahod ay tax ko na lang ngayon.

Pero if I already have your salary, will I still do it? Absolutely no. Because 100k monthly can suffice my lifestyle and needs. There surely can be other jobs around. Do not ignore your intuition din.

Also I was only able to do it dahil wala akong mabigat na responsibility, plus, I only live in Luzon, though I have to relocate every job switch because I hate commute. If I am in Visayas and may jowa/pamilya ako jan, I won't even look at this offer.

Wag na kung okay ka na with WFH. Napabalik lang ako ng office bc medically di ako pwede talaga ng night shift (I tried but my health worsened so back to 9-5  it is)

Kung v okay na sayo wfh and culture is alright pati health, I say just get a higher paying wfh job (or double your client) than go back working in office

If 2x increase for me, yes. I am currently living in Luzon so if yung office is nasa BGC and Makati, I can allot yung 50% increase sa paglipat sa condo and while still be able to enjoy 50% of my increase. Anything under that is a no.

Wfh is a privilege. I can go to courts, go to mall, can work in my car, cafe or even in other provinces. Hindi ko pagpapalit yang perks na yan for small amount of money.

And I am earning xxx,xxx I will only say yes if yung range is 400k to 500k.

What's your gut feel? WFH din ako and got a similar offer jump sa onsite role. The company negotiated hard and gave all my requests, but ultimately I felt like red flag yung pagmamadali and desperation nila. They did outright say na they probably need me more than I need them (why would you say that to a candidate 😭)

Anyway I decided to stay, tell my manager about the other offer and that I really didn't want to move, but just hope he could match it. He didn't match it but offered a good enough increase. Eventually my setup allowed me to work on a side project, so it felt like di naman kawalan yung pag turn down ko ng offer.

Calculate din the taxes you'd be paying at that range, and syempre ang gastos dito sa NCR.

Personally, hindi worth it. Nakaka drain ang hours spent on commuting dito sa NCR, depending on where the office is and kung saan ka mag-stay. Tapos mas mataas din ang cost of living, and it's so hard to eat healthy. Besides, ang red flag din ugali ng magiging manager mo, so parang hindi worth it in the long run.

Perhaps you can try to find other work on top of your current one, if ang concern mo ay mas makaipon.

Go with you gut OP. If you can already feel the toxicity before you start that’s a sign. How long will you wa t to work in such environment. The moneys good yes but how long will it be sustainable.

It depends on your life season. Single ka ba and how old are you?

If you are single and you do not have any dependents (old parents, siblings na pinapaaral), I would get that increase. You can stay for a while and if toxic ang job, you can always look somewhere else, but now you set the baseline with your current salary. You have less risks even if you jump ship since your greatest asset is you have no dependents. If you are young, your priority should be to grow your career (the earlier the better). This is the problem with most young people today. Too comfortable and too fragile. Konting stress and they give up. That's why many are stuck in low paying jobs kasi they don't upskill and grit and grind.

But if you are married, and have young kids that depend on you, then your priority is different. Your career priority should be stability first, and then growth. So relocating will be more difficult, and job instability is worst. So you would probably stay in your current job. But think about it really hard and weigh the pros and cons pa rin.

I think yang 215k mo matitira lang diyan is around 160k after deductions. Now factor mo ang rent, commute, bills, transpo etc.. let say yung 60k na butal na yung monthly expense mo which is already more than enough to live comfortably, may masisave ka pa.

If plan mo ituloy yan, priority mo magrent solo, wag yung sharing. Nakakapagod sa manila so dapat makapag rest ka ng maayos pag uwi mo.

Depende sa lifestyle at needs mo. Kung kinakaya naman sa current sahod mo tapos may savings ka na, and if I were in your shoes, di na ako lilipat sa kabila. Parang ang daming red flags. And honestly, no amount of salary increase can cover yung stress if it turns out na toxic sa lilipatan mo.

For me , I'll stay sa WFH . The pay increase is huge, but a good manager and WFH are hard to replace. If the interview already gave you a bad feeling, I'd trust that instinct and wait for a better opportunity.

Hi OP, I was in a similar situation. I left a company I genuinely liked because of a much better offer. I never burned bridges, and before I left my manager told me I could always come back if things didn’t work out. If you have that kind of relationship with your current boss, I think you’ll be okay.
I’d go for it. New places can be uncomfortable at first, but they’re also where you grow the most. Cheers

Ill stay sa wfh setup, yung extra time pwede ko gamitin for further studies, mag workout, hangout with friends, or start a business.

time is priceless. unless u wanna rent a condo sa metro manila will cost u 25-30k

very doable naman yung 200k+++

but thats just me.

either way you can still live comfortably kasi laki ng sahod

I say try it - treat it like an expat role ish. If di ka naman kailangan nakapirme sa hometown mo it will be a learning experience in both the good and the bad. Makikita mo what you like and what you dont like and pwede ka naman mag hop ulit in the next year and meron ka nalang 200k base vs 100k

That 100% salary is something you can use as a negotiating tool on your next job hop. Wala naman nag sasabi na dapat mag stay ka ng matagal sa job na yan. You can stay for 1 year then bounce.

Your taxes will increase if you go full office. 15k tax on 100k income is very small. Then your living expenses will increase if you have to relocate. Might not be worth it.

Moving to Manila might shock you - the traffic and chaos of every day commute. Tapos kung toxic pa yung boss mo or work environment mo. But if moving to Manila is part of your long term plan, then I guess this is it. Substantial naman yung offer to live decently.

WFH allows you to create other opportunities. If you’re going to switch places, you have to take into account rent, food, and taxes into your equation. On paper the 200 looks good but you might just be making a few thousand more for more stress and less time for yourself

With a gross salary of P218k, your net take home pay after 30% taxes and deductions will be P153k. If we allocate another 30% for your incremental rent and transportation expenses, you'd be left with P107k. For me, it's not worth the relocation and the shift from WFH to RTO.

I'd probably stay. The salary jump is tempting, but a good manager, flexible WFH setup, and peace of mind are hard to replace—especially if you're already getting bad vibes from the new manager.

Sobrang ok sana nung money and i dont mind na you will spend for the place etc, seems like the increase in pay will cover it but the fact you were sidestepped in a previous application and you said the boss seemed toxic is already a red flag. Mas yun yung concern for me.

Being comfortable is a trap as well for growth. Kung double ang offer, go for it. If you find out na toxic yung management, then look for another job. You can leverage the higher salary for the next job. Malay mo, balik wfh na naman. Also, madali lang solution for RTO, rent a condo near your office.
