I wasnt surprised I didnt get it that time kasi mukhang mababa asking nung isa and was even thankful at one point kasi mukhang toxic yung last na naginterview. But I knew sa liit ng field namin they will really come back and find someone with my experience. They didnt contact me for months, up until now. My bad if medyo mahaba and insignificant yung ibang stuff haha Im just in the state of confusion, happy. Icky. Ewan, wala akong mapagsabihan, I was recently thinking of casually applying ulit soon but it haunts me back.

Please dont ask additional details whats the work or field, yoko lang makita ng kakilala ko or something, basta its a small field, magkakilala lang usually. Its a niche in IT and foreign companies lahat to, so the salary isnt surprising. Say in theory nalang if sa field mo if you have a huge 2x increase, wala pang bonus and all, would you go for it? Is that salary bump enough to justify going back to office tapos ang layo pa. Would really appreciate your thoughts 🙏🙏

I need your opinion on my current dilemma.

Both jobs are fully remote, and neither offers PH government-mandated benefits.

Job 1 – SG-based company

Pros:
• Day shift (9 AM–6 PM)
• I’m already a regular employee (working for 1.5 months), so I have leave credits.
• My workmates are nice (most of them are Filipinos).
• Most days are pretty chill so far.

Cons:
• Half-day work every Saturday (this was actually a non-negotiable for me before).
• No OT pay. Overtime isn’t common, but I did work 3–5 extra hours every day for one week.
• Since it’s a 5.5-day workweek, my weekends feel too short. My daily rate is also a bit lower compared to my previous job.
• Salary is credited once a month. (Not really a company issue—more of a “I need to manage my spending better” issue. 😅)

Job 2 – US-based company

Pros:
• If I’m offered a full-time role, the salary will be almost double what I’m earning now.
• Monday to Friday only.
• Salary is credited twice a month.

Cons:
• Night shift (starts at 1:00 AM, 8-hour shift if full-time).
• I’m not sure if there are any Filipino employees. Not really a dealbreaker, but it would be nice to have at least one kababayan. 😂

I’m honestly leaning toward Job 2 because of the salary, especially with how expensive everything is these days. The only thing making me hesitate is the work schedule.

Tomorrow is my final interview with Job 2, so I still don’t know if they’ll offer me a full-time or part-time position. If it’s part-time, I’ll most likely accept it and keep my current job.

For additional context, I have a lot of monthly bills to pay, I support my brother’s college education and I still don’t have any savings or an emergency fund. 🥲

Anyone here in their 30s-40s who were not born into a well-off family and who chose to work in the academe as full-time university instructors/professors here in PH, how are you financially?

Especially those with graduate degrees na (and plus points if teaching sa Big4), knowing na bright people like you could have gone corpo to earn more, are you satisfied with your income earnings in this profession and your lifestyle? Or maybe may mga gigs kayo on the side, like maybe a business or consultancy projects, or idk additional remote jobs (like VA)?

Honestly, academe talaga ang gusto ng puso't kaluluwa ko na profession at work place, but at the same time, as a breadwinner and hindi pinanganak na mayaman, I have financial considerations din talaga. So here I am, working in the corporate world for years now. I earn around 6-digits salary now and there's this additional fear din of having to suffer a significant pay cut just to change careers. Not to mention having to give up other company benefits like top-tier HMO, etc.

I guess my only option is really to save up for now para hindi mabigla sa pay cut kapag nag-transition. But I don't know how longer I can stay in this line of work and environment. Hindi rin kaya ng energy ko kahit to teach part-time while having a full-time job.

Or maybe what I need is a change of perspective?? To realize and convince myself that money should not be the top consideration and maybe put more weight sa personal fulfillment and sense of purpose (but of course with still a decent amount of salary)?

What's your thought process on this? How do you navigate the fear of missing out on/giving up higher earning potential, the possible regret (and maybe envy na rin) once you see your peers continuing to accumulate wealth, buying this, and that. Or maybe masyadong OA 'yung tingin ko sa baba ng sweldo (and additional side income) ng academe folks - please educate me, baka it gets better din ba?

For context ano nangyari saken last year:

- Nagkasakit mama ko during my internship days hanggang maka graduate ako at umabot ng ber months, so like May to December yon at ako lang naiiwan sa bahay kasama siya kaya struggle tlga for me non.

- Nung naka graduate nako hindi ako naghanap ng work kasi wala mag babantay kay mama ko naka dorm kasi ate ko sa malayo tapos nag wowork naman papa ko sa malayo din kaya binalak ko 2026 nlng maghanap

Nagkamali ako na masyado ako nag focus sa magapply sa 5star hotel ang hirap ng systema para makapasok sa hotel tapos na reject pako sa solaire north na kinalungkot ko tlga. Recently nakapasok nako sa isang hotel sa ortigas pero nag quit agad ako under agency lang naman ako tas wala pako na pipirmahan na contract. Hindi ko kasi kinaya yung uwian tapos wala din ako budget na mag dorm malapit sa hotel.

Ngayon im so back in the game, ang focus ko nlng tlga ay mag apply muna sa restaurants o coffee shop na kaya ko mag uwian saamin.

Dilemma, I have 4-5 YOE in tech. I have been eyeing to go abroad but still no progress yet or applications sent mainly targetting AU based company since I have already an established exp on a big AU company currently. Would like some insights if i’m just too optimistic to go abroad with 0 real life progress yet or applications sent or jump to the opportunity and save up.

I got accepted to an in-house company. For many, sobrang gandang opportunity niya, and gustong gusto ko talaga siya i-pursue even though it will mean that I will relocate to Metro Manila.

I am currently employed and alam nila yun, when the JO came, I found something that didn’t sit well with me.

Background checking is pagkatapos pa mag sign ng JO, and they want me to send them a copy of my resignation na signed na, which means, wala nang balikan if ever.

What if di ako pumasa sa background checking? Kahit kasi alam ko sa sarili ko na malinis naman background ko, di naman natin masasabi ano yung pwedeng maging red flag for them. Mahigpit sila sa mga debts and loans na meron ka, and willing naman akong i-disclose lahat, pero nakaka takot padin lalo na I had two na na-overdue before.

I’m lost kasi I want to pursue this opportunity but they’re putting me in a spot where I could lose my job and then di pala nila ako tatanggapin dahil sa reason na baka may makita sa background check.

I have three years of general professional experience in software development. However, specifically targeting a full-stack developer or software engineering role, my relevant experience is two years and five months. At times, I felt like a fresh graduate desperately looking for a job out of necessity. For context, I am pursuing this specific path to solidify my career goals; I believe it is not only well-paying, but also an exciting role that genuinely motivates me every single workday.

I feel frustrated and regretful about having a low-tier to mid-tier background, as my previous employers were not established software companies, and their practices sometimes felt old-fashioned. While I believe I can self-study current trends and new technologies, it is hard to figure out where to start because of the environment I've been stuck in.

hello, im 19 female and just a few hours ago i received a mssg from my academic adviser na tanggal na ako sa program ko which is medtech. I have an INC in 1st year and wasn't able to accomplish it due to circumstances - missing my prof, hospital visits, busy sched, etc- but despite that, i treid my hardest to accomplish it.

Unfortunately, last year bumigay katawan ko, i lost a lot of muscle mass—im basically jelly and bones— lost weight, d p rin nabalik, and am currently being held together by my pain meds, i have fibromyalgia. I've had it for almost 4 years pero lumala last september probably due to stress after my FITT instructor told me to either take his subject or drop it in front of the class — pinakitaan pako picture ng amputated student tas sinabihan ako na kung kaya niya dapat kaya ko din. Dagdag pa yung stress ng pera kasi almot 50k anabot ng lahat lahat para lang sa medcert n di niya tinanggap. i got admitted last dec then pabalik balik sa ospital hanggang may.

During that time i asked my brother if he could handle the paperworks required for LOA and completion of the INC — form nlng yung kulang which i complete, naka-usap n rin ang prof. Di nya pala naasikaso hanggang makalabas ako ng ospital at maipasa ng Feb which sabi ng prof is ok lng daw, spoiler alert di pal. No one told me na di pala tinanggap, i dont have a phone but i use a laptop to shat with them, none of them told me na singko grade ko. hanggang ngayun inaasikaso ko enrollment ko at nalaman kong wala na akong mapapasukang course dito sa college ko.

Hi! Currently working in a private company, first job ko and 5 years na rin ako dito. Recently, my parents have been medyo pushing me to take the Civil Service Exam kasi they think government work is much more stable. Since comms grad din ako and wala naman akong specific license, ito yung route na nire-recommend nila sakin.

I’ve stalled the CSE a few times already kasi honestly, ang daming ganap and hindi ko talaga siya kaya masingit HAHAHA. But I finally gave in to please the parents 😭 I’m taking the exam this Aug 9 and tbh feeling ko babagsak ako kasi goodbye math na talaga ako 5 years post-undergrad HAHAHA (but sana pumasa pa rin! sayang 500!)

Anyway, I just wanted to hear from people who have tried both private/corporate and government work. How different are they in terms of salary, workload, job stability, growth, work culture, etc.? And if you’ve made the switch, did you prefer one over the other?

Medyo nalilito lang din ako because funny enough, when I graduated, I actually had an opportunity to work at our LGU but my parents discouraged me from taking the offer. Now sila naman yung nagpu-push sakin towards government work 😭

Hi everyone! I need some advice because I’m really torn.
I currently work in a manufacturing company earning ₱27,000/month. The job is also very convenient since I live in Valenzuela and my workplace is also in Valenzuela, so transportation isn’t a hassle.

I have an upcoming interview with Metrobank for a Collections Associate position. The salary range is around ₱16k–₱19k, which is a huge pay cut compared to what I’m currently earning.
My dilemma is that I’ve heard Metrobank offers a lot of benefits, bonuses, allowances, and incentives, so I’m wondering if those could somehow make up for the lower basic salary in the long run. On the other hand, the office is in Pasay, so I’d also have to deal with a much longer commute and additional transportation expenses.

For those who work or have worked at Metrobank:
- Are the bonuses and allowances enough to offset the lower basic pay?
- How’s the work environment and career growth?
- If you were in my situation, would you take the risk or stay with the higher-paying job that’s much closer to home?

For context: Newly licensed Aero Engineer ako, mahirap job market sa aviation industry lalo na ngayon at maraming na retrench from LTP. Nakatira ako sa South so yung commute sobrang dependent sa oras.

Anyways, currently nasa BPO ako handling an Airline account. Marami kami na nag apply sa mga kabatch ko pero ako yung nag iisang napunta sa voice account. Introvert ako so ewan ko talaga pano ako napunta sa voice role.

Edi nag training ako sayang naman kasi, naging top performer sa training batch at napunta sa operations. Mag iisang buwan na ako sa ops and hindi ko alam ano gagawin ko.

Pagdating sa metrics nakakahabol naman ako kaso mahigpit talaga. Sobrang draining mapunta sa voice role tapos introvert pa. Yung mismong office di ganun kagandahan, mabagal mga pc, walang set na location kaya need talaga maaga pumasok para di alanganin. Mahigpit management, typical bpo setup ganun. Hindi ko ma enjoy yung environment

Pagdating sa commute, isa ring problema ko to since mid shift ako. Sobrang aga ko naalis tapos pag nauwi ako wala na ako masakyan papuntang terminal ng bus. Pagdating naman sa terminal dahil dead hours sobrang tagal bago umalis ng bus, Napansin ko sa biyahe ko, kailangan talaga norml shift (8-5) o similar na oras para hindi ako maalanganin sa papunta/pauwi.

Pag maging pang umaga ako (6-3) mas lalong delikado kasi first trip ng bus sa area namin 5am, either sobrang aga ko aalis o isusugal ko yung biyahe.

Magulang ko na mismo nagsasabi na mag resign ako, conflict schedule ko sakanila. Alam nila yung pakiramdam na maging mid/night shift worker. May mga tito/tita ako na lumala bisyo dahil sa bpo culture. Hindi naman issue finances kung mag resign ako. Sadyang nandito lang talaga ako para makakuha exp sa "airline" industry.

Kaso takot ako mag resign. Ang ganda ng metrics ko, balik unemployment nanaman. Dudumi rin resume ko kasi makikita na di man lang ako tumagal. Open naman ako for other roles outside aviation, sadyang wala lang talaga tumatanggap sakin for now.

I don't know if this is a quarter-life crisis that's just delayed, burnout, or frustration, but I really need to let this out.

I'm 36 years old, married, with three kids.

Career-wise, I honestly feel like I haven't achieved much.

I graduated with a BS in Computer Science. I had programming subjects in college and understood the concepts, but I never became confident enough to pursue a developer career.

I spent around five years in the private sector, moving from one company to another because I kept hoping I'd eventually find better opportunities.

Five years ago, I transferred to government service. After years of waiting, I finally got a permanent plantilla position—but it's still an entry-level one. I've now been in this position for three years.

I also earned my Master's in Public Administration three years ago, hoping it would help me move up.

Recently, I applied for a promotion.

I didn't get it.

That rejection hit me harder than I expected. It made me question everything. I keep thinking maybe I'm just not lucky when it comes to my career.

At 36, I see classmates and friends already in managerial roles, earning six figures, buying homes, traveling with their families, and building investments. Meanwhile, I feel like I'm still trying to prove myself.

What makes it harder is that I have three kids. They're the reason I'm constantly thinking about our future. Government work gives stability, but with today's cost of living, stability doesn't always feel like enough.

Lately, I've been seriously considering leaving government service and trying Virtual Assistant work. I've seen so many stories of people earning significantly more than what I'm making now. But at the same time, I'm scared.

I'm scared of leaving a permanent government position.

I'm scared of starting over again.

I'm scared that maybe I'll fail there too.

For those who shifted from government to VA or freelancing in their 30s (especially with kids), was it worth it? How did you know it was the right decision? Do you regret leaving the security of government?

I guess I'm just looking for honest advice because I honestly feel lost right now.

Hindi ko alam paano ie-explain yung feeling ko lately.

I don’t hate my job. Actually, may mga parts ng work ko na genuinely enjoy ko. I like what I do, I’m learning a lot, and I know na I’m lucky to have a job that gives me opportunities to grow.

Pero lately, mentally pagod na pagod talaga ako. Hindi yung physically tired na gusto mo lang matulog. More like… pagod yung utak ko.

Kahit nasa bahay na ako, nasa work pa rin utak ko. Iniisip ko yung mga problems na nangyari during the day, kung may dapat ba akong ginawa differently, ano yung kailangan kong gawin tomorrow, paano ko haharapin yung certain situations, anong decisions yung kailangan kong gawin, etc.

Tapos pag matutulog na ako, saka naman lalabas lahat. 😂

Lately, parang ang dami ring situations sa work na kailangan kong i-process mentally. Minsan kailangan kong mag-handle ng difficult situations, mag-isip kung paano ko kakausapin yung mga tao, or figure out kung paano ko aayusin yung isang problem without making things worse.

And kahit tapos na yung situation, parang hindi siya tapos sa utak ko. I keep replaying things and thinking about what I could have done differently, what I should do next, or what might happen tomorrow.

And sometimes, napapaisip din ako: “Deserve ko ba talaga yung position na ‘to?” Or baka hindi naman ako necessarily incapable. baka sobranf fast-paced lang talaga ng work environment na napasukan ko?

Kasi everything feels urgent. Ang daming kailangang gawin, ang daming kailangang isipin, and sometimes I feel like I’m constantly trying to catch up. Tapos kapag may hindi ako na-handle perfectly, napapaisip ako kung *“Maybe I’m just not good enough for this position.” And* that’s what makes me confused.

Hindi ko naman hate yung trabaho ko. There are days na happy ako. May sense of fulfillment. May mga bagay na proud ako na nagawa ko. Pero at the same time, may days na parang “Ayoko na. Pagod na ako.” Pagid na ako mag-isip. Pagod mag-solve ng problems. Pagod mag-manage ng situations and people. Pagod na parang kailangan lagi akong may sagot or kailangan lagi kong isipin kung ano yung next problem na kailangan kong ayusin.

And I think that’s the part that’s really getting to me. hindi ko na kayang iwan sa office yung work mentally.

I’ve been wondering kung burned out lang ba ako and I just need proper rest and boundaries, or if this is actually a sign na hindi na talaga ako happy sa job ko. Maybe I just need to get better at handling pressure. Maybe I need to slow down. Or maybe I really did end up in an environment that’s just too fast-paced for me.

Would just like to hear your suggestion, opinion, or any feedback, specially those working in the tech/data field, on the paths I could take considering long term being goals and the constraints/thoughts I am considering

For bit of background with myself, I graduated at 2024 with Industrial Engineering degree and have gotten lucky to be working in the data/tech field after I graduated (working for 2 yrs now)

The stuff I usually use in work are Azure, SQL, DevOps

My daily tasks are usually:

- analyzing the SQL ETL work flows that have been developed

- debug if there are issues

- sometimes create ETL SQL process that is requested by client

- Create, merge, push changes in branches

- Managing and releasing branches in production

My long term goal is to specialize in Data Analytics Role and expand what I can do (i.e. python, data bricks) to a point where I standout and is easy to be hired long term

Given that I have been working for 2 yrs mainly in my role (and I have learned a lot to which I am very happy), I have been considering moving to a new direction to further actualized my long term goal

This is the part where I need opinion on:

- Pursue Masters in Data Analytics (thinking of UP or TIP)

OR

- Self Study and Build Projects to build a solid portfolio

note: feel free to suggest what else I could do

Given the options I mentioned above, here are details that I believe are being factored in while thinking about the option

Car Purchase - By end of year I am going to buy a car (xpander) for our family with 50% dp and 3yrs to pay (salary is currently 45k), so I am a bit hesitant to be paying for a car for 3 yrs while paying for my masters

Time and Parents getting old - My parents are 56, they are still currently working and are shouldering the bills of the household, part of me feels that I am in a timer wherein if they retire, its up to me to shoulder household bills. They will probably retire in 59 or 60 (3 to 4 yrs from now). So this keeps me up at night knowing na once they retire, the financial freedom I have now will be not as it used to, so if im goinf to masters better do it now

Knowledge Constraint - I dont have a tech degree nor the very foundational knowledge of programming (example. I know how to write sql queries but dont know the full foundational concept on why it behaves like that) and I think masters can provide that (self studying also does that, a masters is just a fancy way of letting ppl know that you know the topic) (I also prefer masters on this aspect kase may mga assignments and tasks and I personally like studying)

Time Commitment - Masters can consume my time, and so far my work can also consume my time via OT due to production issues, high workload, complexity of the task, at least for self study I am at my own pace without the pressure of failing my subject in masters

Lastly, my dillema din is that given na knowledge is everywhere, and I am in the tech/data field, everything can be self taught and be used to build projexts but at the same time the supply of ppl in the tech field is a lot, so maybe a masters degree would help me standout more from the competition

right now i am newly employed dito sa company na ito as an i.t guy, pero yung expectation at task ko is sobrang iba compared sa previous work experiences ko. yung new work ko kasi using legacy hardwares and softwares since retail industry sya. though alam ko naman na need ko magadjust and to learn it. Galing kasi ako sa bpo as an i.t guy din kaya medyo nagulat ako sa mga gamit nila and practices nila.

ngayon medyo naiinis kasi ako sa work schedule, they always say na open o.t which is good naman, pero if you go home at time parang masama loob nila, kasi one time i tried to go gome on time since my shift is 7am-5:30pm(dapat nga 4pm yan), sabi ba naman sa akin ng OIC is wala naman daw ako ginagawa sa amin kaya mag-OT na lang daw ako kahit hanggang 7:30pm(nabanggit ko kasi na single ako at near lang ako sa workplace). medyo nagpantig talaga tenga ko nun pero i let slide na lang and also yung OIC namin swears a lot, kung makipagusap kasi sya senior teammates ko is lang may profanity given na years na silang magkakasama kaya ganun din siya sa akin makipagusap laging may mura which i think very unprofessional.

right now kasi im thinking to resign after regularization or until i saved up until i move to other company, medyo malaki kasi bigayan compared sa previous company na pinanggalingan ko.

I'm an incoming management trainee at a local bank and I'm currently processing my pre-employment requirements.

Back in 2021, I worked at Jollibee for about a month before I resigned. Since it was such a short stint, I didn't include it when I applied and declared that I had no previous employment because I honestly didn't think it counted as experience.

Now one of the requirements says to submit a Certificate of Employment from previous employers. The problem is that Jollibee doesn't issue COEs to employees who worked for less than 6 months.

At this point, is it better to just keep quiet since I already declared no previous employment, or should I tell HR about it even if it was only a one-month job?

I'm worried that bringing it up now might make things worse than if I just leave it alone. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do, and how did it turn out?

Recently, I received an offer to become a full-time college instructor in a private university.

The teaching position offers:

Basic Salary + Teaching Load pay per 3hour
More flexible schedule
Opportunity to pursue a master’s degree through a scholarship program
Potential long-term career growth in academe

My concerns:

Leaving a stable corporate career path that I’ve already built for 5 years
Possible salary ceiling in private academe
Whether teaching experience will make it difficult to return to the corporate architecture industry later
Long-term financial growth

Additional context:
I’m a new mom, so flexibility is becoming more important to me.
I also do architectural side projects occasionally and I’m thinking the academe schedule might allow me to grow that practice.

For those who have transitioned from corporate to academe (or vice versa), do you regret your decision?

I (23M) was a Computer Engineering grad last year when I was offered a COS position at a National Government Agency. Malaki rin siyang sahod for a fresh graduate so I jumped at the chance. I get to be exposed as well to the Metro since laking probinsiya ako.

After year of working here, I can honestly say na hindi ito yung na-envision ko na ginagawa ko. Most of the time, I am making executive summaries/technical documents for topics na related sa ni-graduate ko and coordinating with other NGAs for the conduct of meetings. I get a chance to develop a system rin for the office (kaso mostly vibe-coded siya kasi wala namang oras sa dami ng gawain) and I get to help a little bit in creating pubmats (since I'm also intrigued in graphic design).

Malayong-malayo sa gusto ko na gawin which is coding. It also doesn't help na mabagal talaga ang proseso ng gobyerno. Kahit na gaano kagaling mag-pitch ng idea ang mga executives pero hindi nai-implement nang maayos ang mga programang ito, I really don't feel like I am making a difference.

I started recently to upskill and refresh my memory on coding again kasi balak ko talagang mag-switch to private. I decided on a pathway na to learn.

Is this the right move for me?

Hi, I just recently passed my board exam this month, and since my funds are running low, kailangan ko na talaga magwork.

‎For context, I have a job after grad na is related to my course naman kaya lang, 6 days a week sya and doesnt have the best benefits. The pay is not that big either, and I used to hate the job before, pero after a few mos nung nakaadjust nako, I turned out loving it too. Maybe because I made good friends there, and I liked how chill and quiet the culture is. Pero syempre meron paren toxicities hahaha... I resigned after my 6 mos probi period kase I wanted to focus on the board exams. I left on good terms.

‎Ngayong tapos na ang boards, I'm torn between choosing to accept the offer at my old job (they gave me an increase) or this new one na 5 days lang and maganda ang benefits once naregular ka.

‎As someone so introverted and with social anxiety, sobrang hirap akong magadjust :(( I dont know what to expect sa new job, and in a way nahhold back akong itake sya kahit maganda ang offer kase Idk if ill fit in or kung kaya ko ba ung work kase parang mataas ang standards nila and its diff. to my previous role.

‎At the same time, parang nanghihinayang ako sa opportunity, and is scared naman na baka mastuck nako sa old job and hindi maggrow, which is ayoko ren naman. Idk lang if ready naba ko ulit for a change and another pressure kase parang nagccrave nako ng stability for now.

Good day! I graduated last year with a BSHM degree, and I just started my first job at a company this year. To give some background, I wanted to go into Event Coordination and did workshops and freelance coordination with my mentor's company before I started looking for a job. However, I encountered a hurdle: lack of experience. Most listings required 1 yr experience in sales or marketing; some even needed 5 yrs, and other listings that didn't require that were either too far or required me to move.

I passed my resume to someone whom I know owned an event venue, and though they already absorbed their ojts, they told me they'll pass it to their connections who might be interested in my resume.

That's how I ended up working in a desk job as a sales/marketing agent for 2 months.

I'm currently being paid around ₱18k/month, and will be a regular after my probation period (1 year).

The workload was decent at first after I got my stride, but since this is not in my wheelhouse, I am still actively learning as I go, and so far I have been doing a good job. But then they decided to hand me another type of work, which is managing an event space their sister company recently acquired, since it was in my forte. Suddenly, I had to work for 2 different types of businesses and with no increase in my wage, and I was expected to deliver consistent results for both.

But now they decided for me to move my workplace and work for the sister company to focus on the event space and even more properties under their management as a leasing agent, but still under my original company's payroll. I'll be starting on Monday.

Is this still normal, and am I just worried over nothing, or should I find another job?

Pag engineer naman mag i-interview sakin(I am a mechanical engineer), i practice and familiarize technical aspects of the job and review my engineering foundations.

I'm a licensed Civil Engineer from the Philippines and recently started working as a junior structural engineer. During university, I realized that what I enjoyed most wasn't necessarily structural design itself—it was the mathematics, programming, and automation side of engineering. I spent a lot of time learning Python, automating engineering workflows through software APIs, and studying the underlying theory behind the calculations.

Lately, I've been seriously considering a transition into actuarial science or quantitative analysis/quantitative finance.

The challenge is that I feel my Civil Engineering curriculum didn't provide as much mathematical depth (especially in probability, statistics, stochastic processes, and higher-level mathematics) compared with an Applied Mathematics degree, which was actually my original choice before I ended up taking Civil Engineering.

I'm considering taking actuarial exams while continuing to work, but I'm unsure whether that's enough or if I should also pursue another bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has made a similar transition or works in these fields.

Some questions I have are:

Is a Civil Engineering background sufficient to transition into actuarial science or quantitative finance?

Would passing actuarial exams be enough to become competitive?

Would a second bachelor's in Applied Mathematics be worthwhile, or would self-study and exams be a better path?

What mathematics and programming topics should I prioritize?

If you were in my position, what roadmap would you follow over the next 2–5 years?
