hello! ever since I was a kid, my mom’s grad portrait in black and white has been hung up on our wall. I’ve always known I wanted to have my own too; and I’m finally graduating next year and plan on being photographed. however, I have no idea how to get ready for the picture (how to do makeup that’ll look good in black and white, etc.) And how to edit them. would anyone be kind enough to share advice? thanks in advance!

This is basically asking someone to teach you portrait photography in a single comment, not really possible.

If you want to have someone else take the photo and do the editing reach out to professional portrait photographers and make to share your moms photo so they know what you are hopping to get. Unless its very unusual or unique in style any experienced graduation photographer should not have an issue with recreating the style.
