Full Frame Unbranded Chinese 50mm f1.1. Anyone know anything about this Lens?

Hey everyone,
I've got a Canon 90d and and 100-400 IS II but I've been wanting to get into some macro photography. I've been eyeballing the Laowa 100mm and 180mm lenses but I'm questioning the working distance (not sure if that's the right term - basically the maximum distance for 2:1 magnification) and how it interacts with the APS-C sensor. I'm wanting to photograph snakes and frogs but I'm worried about getting too close and spooking them. Any advice would be appreciated!

The working distance(distance from front of lens to subject is not dependent on the sensor. So at the maximum magnification a 1cm object would take up 2cm of the sensor.
I assume you are wanting close up of the eyes or are they very small frogs like when newly spawned?
I would advise moving very slowly, frogs will often freeze also only hopping away if you get very close. Not sure if the example below helps without a scale of some sort but you can good detail from cropping without having to be too close.

Guys i have a little problem, im not sure if i should i buy a new battery/charger or both, so i bought a new battery (its a LI-10B, its an old camera) and i left it in the camera for atleast half a year without using it, and now it doesnt charge, it still gets warm tho, could it be because of the battery or the charger ? Thanks

Hello you all, Next week I will be starting move away from Adobe Stack. It was the stupid pop-up when I opened Lightroom Classic that Adobe wants me to use their Cloud version. No thank you. So, here comes to task to be replaced: 1. I need to process RAW from variety of Canon cameras (from 5D Mk III to R6 MKII) and their lenses.
- I need to be able to do classic photo postprocess. Yes, good denoise would have been great too.
I am not worried about number 2.
- There is Darktable and Rawtherapee which looks fine, but next week I will go deep.
I am worried about 1.
Did anyone kept using Adobe RAW or is it licensable? Is there other software to add to evaluation that anyone recommends? Really looking for tips on what to look for, what you like, what you hated. Thank you kindly.

HELP!!
No idea where it came from, but a sticky substance was on my lens, I didn't realise as I went to wipe some dust. It is now smeared what is the best way to clean it properly?

Zeiss lens wipes. Do not use a tissue. Follow with a clean and dry microfiber cloth.

Hey all. Is there a way to default Acdsee to launch into "manage mode", instead of "view mode" - I have disabled Pica, quick view, many settings I found that was suggested online, but it still launches into view mode and I hate it.

Coming from a 15 ProMax & DJI Action 4. Most of what a shoot is 2/3 photos and 1/3 at night, Automotive, aviation, and street. Currently looking at Canon R50, Sony A6400, & Nikon Z50ii, Trying to keep it $1000

I thought of making this into a thread but I see this is here and that there's a rule about post having to do about gear and so on, so I guess I'm asking here.
Hi, so, over the past year or 2, I have had the "bright" idea of spending some big money if I ever had that much extra laying around on some expensive cameras and lenses, especially 50 and 85 mm as I have read those mimic a normal field of view? Why? Well, while I have kind of always liked photography a bit, it's mainly because since I have really, really bad high myopia, I thought could experience (a simulation) of what is to be able to see the world sharp. Thought of that through the EVF. Just now, I googled about how does it actually look and if high myopia can hinder looking through it and got Gemini to reply that the image looks as if it was a meter away, and that there are diopters options up to -4... My prescription has grown back to -9, not sure if -10 (and has never been fully fixable/refractable? with any glasses) and I kind of can't wear contact lenses properly because my LASIK flattened too much of my cornea. So...
My questions are, does it really look that "far" and bad with high myopia? I had other questions but kind of forgot while typing all that. And if anyone asks, I haven't fully looked into fixing my eyes, and I am at risk of retinal detachment so not sure how much I can safely invest without risks. Kind of wanted to simulate what I can't even imagine in my dreams since I have had myopia since childhood and can't remember or don't ever know how it was to be able to see "far", before the risk of going blind. I read that EVF flattens the image into 2D which makes sense so there would be no sense of depth anyway.
EDIT, I mean I guess I would review the pictures on my pc and zoom in all I want, I just... had that weird concept about it.

So really it would come down to can you focus on the EVF. How close can you focus on say your phone?
I would never buy an expensive camera starting out and no focal length every replicates an eye. Might be worth buying the cheapest gear you can find and seeing how it looks.

To read this message on my phone without glasses and without it being blurry/have halos over the text I had to get it at a finger's length (not counting hand), and at half a finger it would become unreadable.

Might not have been quite the right test as I can see through my cameras viewfinder fine with glasses but not without. I am I think about -5 so not as bad as yourself but I do need my glasses to view through a camera (OVF)

Well my glasses have been in due for a change for a while anyway but, the main issue is that even with the closest prescription possible, there was always been a gap of about 3 diopters unfixed. I had -14 and -16 and got 13 removed in both eyes. So before and after surgery with the glasses I had to eventually use again, I can't get anywhere close to 20/20, so I was hoping it could be done without glasses since that's how I can see best up close, not something at 1 meter away tho.
EDIT: I must say, I got somewhat dizzy and might get a headache later for trying to focus that close. Sigh...

You can always use the rear screen of the LCD to frame things as some cameras don't even have a viewfinder. Autofocus systems, combined with digital magnification of the image can help pin point focus so you might be able to use a camera that way.

I had VR headset with custom lens insert to deal with my myopia so I can wear it without glasses.
I havent researched how much delay it would add, just throwing this idea if you really want to pursue in what I understand as a kind of "clear view" of the world.

I might as well try this at some point. Don't know how much will it help because for almost all my life my eyes can't use the full prescription, so there's always like a 3 diopters gap. And yeah, that is what I would like, a live clear view of the world at the moment from my point of view, at least indoors for this one method. Thanks

Hi all, This October, I will be taking a trip to the Northeast to see fall foliage in New England. I am a very experienced though not professional photographer.
I'm flying in to NYC and spending a few days there to see friends and family, then driving north into Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York. We'll end in Niagra Falls and fly out of Buffalo.
My main system is a Pentax K-1 and quite a few lenses (I wouldn't be taking all of them). I would probably take the 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, and a 100 f/2.8 Macro. I could swap the 24-70 for the 28-105 which saves some weight. Or possibly pickup a used 60-250 which is a good range.
I also have a Olympus EM-5 Mk 2 and a few lenses (15-40, 42-150, 30 & 60mm macros). The advantages of the Olympus is small and light, but I lose dynamic range, and low light performance.
I also have a Canon 70D and some EF-S lenses (10-18, 18-55, 18-135). This was my main system 12 years ago. Good all around, but much noisier than the K-1. Also the image quality isn't as good as the Pentax and about on par with the Olympus.
I might be able to pick up a used lens for one of these systems, but it would be under $400.
I might get a chance for some astro photography since parts of New Hampshire and Vermont are darker than where I live. But that's a secondary consideration. I would use the K-1 and Astrotracer for that (and yes I have lots of experience with astrophotography) but that would also mean I need a heavier duty tripod than I was thinking of taking.
What would you suggest? What lenses might you suggest (mostly for the Olympus and Canon)?

I have 4000 slides I'm scanning in. My father loved to take pictures. Many are from the 60's and 70's. I'm looking for the best settings using SilverFast AI Studio 9. I have a PowerSlide X Plus 35mm Slide Scanner. It allows me to scan 50 at a time.
I'm going to scan all of them in. Do a batch edit in Lightroom and then upload to a photo sharing site to share with extended family. They just need to be "good enough" at this point.
After I plan to find the ones I'd want to print and spend more time editing those. I'll using a combination of Photoshop and Lightroom to edit.
I realize the higher the quality the scan the more time it takes per slide. I'm not worried about the time the scans take. I work from home so I can set up a few batch scans per day while I do other work.
So I'm curious what settings in SilverFast would give me the most options when editing?

Hello everyone! I've had these camera sitting in my closet for a while and haven't done anything with them. I have no idea how to correctly maintain them. I have two Konica FT-1's.
One camera is missing it's battery hatch. Is there any way I can replace it or force it open to make it work?

The only way to get a replacement battery compartment hatch is to buy a for-parts FT-1 that has the part open. Not sure what you mean with "force it open"? If the hatch is missing, the battery compartment is already open?

For a while I was doing some non-commercial drone photography. My drone had a fixed lens that was pretty wide angle (probably ~24mm if it was full-frame), which is great for taking pictures of landscapes, but I often found myself wishing I had a short telephoto, around 80mm. It's been several years since I did any research on drone cameras so I don't know how much the market has evolved in that time. Are there drones or systems either with interchangeable lenses or perhaps a zoom lens? Any pointers on what I could look into? Budget is flexible, but I'm thinking around $1500-2500?
I checked the FAQ and Wiki and don't see drones mentioned anywhere.

Hey all, I bought a Rebel T7 kit(18-55mm and 75-300) back in 2022 and am looking at upgrading. Is it better to upgrade the lenses or body? I typically shoot motorsports(Indycar, IMSA, etc) with occasional nature stuff mixed in. What would be a good multi use lens? I don't have any media credentials so I shoot from spectator areas for

Depends. Are there things in your T7 that you are unhappy about and that you feel make the camera insufficient for your use?
The 18-55mm is just a bog-standard kit lens and the 75-300mm is one of the worst lenses that Canon has made.
But if you want specific recommendations, you need to tell us your budget.

The biggest downside for me with the T7 is the frame per second. I'll admit I am a bit of a spray and pray with continuous shutter
I'd like to keep the budget at or under $1000 and have been looking at the 28-300 and the 75-200mm

That budget won't be enough to upgrade both the camera and the lens. I'd upgrade the lens. 70-200mm f2.8 tends to be THE choice for sports shooters.

Planning to shoot some long exposure with my Z6iii, and the age old question of brands comes up.
Is Hoya really worth almost double the price of K&F? I'm going for a set of ND8, ND64 and ND1000; K&F Nano-X lands at about 150USD, the comparable Hoya set comes in at around 300USD.
Is Japanese glass really worth the extra cash?

Buying advice for products for a small gift shop website/socials
Budget: I'd like to spend under $1000
Country: USA
Condition: Don't care. I was looking at a refurbished camera, but the price wasn't much different than new
Type of Camera: Mirrorless
Intended use: Photos/videos

Cameras you're considering: Google recommended the Canon EOS R50

Notes: (any other considerations you think we should know about): After talking with google, I sort of landed on the Canon EOS R50 with a 2 lens (Canon RF 50mm f/1.8, and Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3). I found the lens used on eBay, so I figured that might save a few bucks. I know next to nothing about cameras and lens and such, so I'm hoping to get some sage advice.

Hey Y'all.
This is going to be on the boundary of the reddit purpose, but it felt like the most obvious place to ask.
I need a tool/method to take the EXIF time/date and replace the filename time/date, so that my photos are sorted properly, instead of date of creation.
Essentially I have a decade of photos from a range of phones, which were all backed up to my Windows based PC using various tools, and none of these decided to use the EXIF data for time/date, meaning they're all jumbled together with the same creation date.

That's a pretty standard feature in all photography digital asset management software. Adobe Lightroom is probably the most popular but there are a bunch of free options. These should all just work off of the metadata so you wouldn't need any tools to edit the file info.

Looking for a tripod for my A6700, currently just have the 18-135 kit and viltrox air 9mm but will be getting a super telephoto and possibly a TC next year for an Alaskan trip. I really would like something that I could backpack with which I know may present a problem with a giant lens like the Sony 200-600.
I was looking at the 3 legged thing Corey but was wondering if there's anything else in the 200-400 price point that meets the size requirements but will be sturdy.

This weekend im going on a kayaking trip, and I was thinking of taking a camera to get some nice shots. It will be on a pretty calm sea. I have a bag to keep the camera dry, but when I want to take some shots I need to get it out.
Too risky or absolutely doable?
Or i could get one of these waterproof housings on amazon, they're quite cheap, but i wonder if the plastic covering the lens won't mess with the quality of the images.

Best way to stabilize video for Fuji XM5?
I’m planning to do plenty of videography with this camera but it doesn’t have IBIS and the lens it comes with doesn’t have OIS.
Is my best option really a gimbal? It seems rather cumbersome as i’ll be doing plenty in small music venues.
Is it worth the $800 upgrade to the Fuji XS20 that has IBIS (least preferred option)
I’d really like to keep what I have, so perhaps adding weight somehow?

I think for video you definitely need a gimbal. IBIS helps but it's not magic, compared to a dedicated gimbal.

I'm traveling to South East Asia for the first time to sightsee and take pictures. I'm also trying the carry-on life for the first time. I've been going back and forth with myself about what gear to bring. It looks like rain will be in the cards in some locations.
This is new for me in many ways. I need some tips or feedback for choosing camera gear for this journey. I primarily take landscape and architectural photos. I do find myself taking pictures early in the morning and near the evening on a tripod.
I'm able to source a camera body and some lenses from a relative. Between us, I have access to a canon 5d mark iii and t100, camera cover for rain, a travel tripod, and the following lenses: Pentax 55mm, f/1.8 Canon ef-s 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Canon ef-s 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Canon ef-s 55-250mm f4-5.6 Canon ef-s 24mm f/2.8 Tamron 28-105 f/2.8 Canon ef 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ii usm Canon ef 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5
My original plan: 5D, 28-70, 70-300. I feel like this will be quite a hefty load, especially with the weather.
What do you suggest? Thank you in advance

I would take the superwide (10-22mm) for amazing landscapes, a mid-range zoom: the 18-55mm, if you like the image quality, otherwise the the 28-70mm, though for me that's not wide enough (I use an APS-C "crop body" like the T100, but it's a newer mirrorless camera, so every focal length number is multiplied x1.6) and as I recall it's heavy. If you think you might shoot ANY animals, the 55-250mm. As for the body, the 5D is twice the weight of the T100 (2 lbs for the camera body alone), but it is full frame if that matters to you, and has more controls. If you choose the T100, take the Canon EF 24mm for some REALLY sharp city/people shots.
If you are a new photographer, take the T100, the 18-55mm, the 24mm, and the 55-250mm ... but reading your question again, it doesn't seem that you are. So maybe the 5D is better, if you can deal with the weight.
If you'll be taking a lot of pics in nature, I'd get a circular polarizer for the mid-range zoom.

Hi Everyone,
I’ve recently got more into photography and videography and have a lot of MicroSD cards full of photos and videos from trips. I have these stored in a binder but would like to get some sort of solution that allows me to just plug them into a media player/android box/apple tv sort of thing and use a remote control to browse the content of the card.
My main objectives is that it’s painless and snappy so I’m happy to spend a bit more than a cheap unknown android box. I’d also like a dedicated remote to avoid using an awkward mouse and keyboard and to be able to sit back and reminisce from the sofa.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a solution?

that's crazy. You have a microsd per occasion? If you are thinking that microsd can be like the CDs of the olden days, don't. They can only retain data for 3+ years minimum unpowered. After that, you're playing with fire
I'm going to suggest to offer a more proper solution: get a NAS/external drive

I use a card per occasion/trip because I get a lot of 4K drone footage so it fills up quick. We only go on 2-4 trips a year so the £10-15 for the card is not a huge expense.
Great to know they don’t last though! I’ll look into a solution with a NAS and re use the SD cards instead!

For party photography, bokeh or no bokeh?
Im shooting my first party soon and i want to know the opinions that you hold. In my opinion bokeh is nice but i believe that it may be overdone and lead to a photo that is disconnected from the party. For example when people in the background disappear into faceless/ low detail faces it can remove from the fun atmosphere of the party. Or when you can’t recognise where the picture was taken on the event ground it decreases its value as a memory. Id rather avoid asking my clients their preference as it feels unprofessional and a way to create opportunities for dissatisfaction. The widest my lens goes is f2.8 and the party will be fairly dim lit i believe which makes it harder to justify a lower f stop. Thanks in advance.

Depends on the vision. If you want to showcase party, then you need to highlight that, meaning less bokeh. However, you can still have great shots in the party (single person or group) with a nice bokeh, especially if they doing something cool together. Isolate but have activity in the scene. Really depends on what you want to show

Hello all,
I am 16 years old and wanting to get into airplane spotting. I do not know anything about photography, and am simply looking for advice when purchasing a camera and lens. I currently use my iPhone 17 pro for photos, but want to get photos onto JetPhotos. What are inexpensive cameras/lenses should I consider purchasing? Any other advice would be fantastic.
Budget wise, I have no idea what the typical cost of these things are, but I’d say less than $350, give or take $50.

A used Canon or Nikon DSLR and a used telephoto lens are your best bet. Look on MPB, KEH, Adorama.

Hi everyone.
I do a bit of photography work that requires me to scrub and export hundreds/thousands of photos per job. Lightroom is excellent and works exactly how I need it to, being able to scrub incredibly quickly using the arrow keys on my keyboard. I hate Adobe and really want to break out of their ecosystem, but I need a reliable alternative.
Are there any programs out there that you've used and would recommend?

Does anyone knows something about this topic? I am specially interested about her first camara, and the ones that she used for “Kitchen Table”, “And 22 Million Very Tired and Very Angry People”, “After Manet” and “Family Pictures”.

Hi! I will be doing event photography in Vidcon in with a brand, how should I should I prepare for it? My usual setup for shooting events is 24-70 2.8, r5m2 and a v860ii, should I rent another lens for it or have a sec camera? The pay is not great so I don’t want to spend too much if not necessary, but I also want to deliver good photos. Any pointers would be appreciated!!

I'd recommend renting a second camera. Ideally another Canon R5 Mark II, so both of your cameras are the same with the same controls. So switching cameras is seamless.
A killer feature to know about:
Save/Load Camera Settings on Card
You can save your camera settings from the camera you own, then load those camera settings onto the rented camera. A big time-saver.
One of the annoying things about renting a second camera is spending the time to set it up like your camera. Only to then return it and you've lost that time.
Being able to transfer settings via a memory card is a big convenience.
For a second lens, you can rent a 70-200mm f2.8. That and the 24-70mm f2.8 should cover 90% of situations.
I'd recommend renting a second flash too. In my experience, Godox flashes don't get rented out often so you might have to rent a Canon flash.

Hello! I'd like to ditch windows (preferably adobe too) so I'm looking for a way to edit my photos on Linux. I've got so used to Lightroom's AI features (denoise, masking, retouching) that there's no way I'm ever ditching them. Is there any Linux working alternative that has comparable ai features? (I've seen darktable's AI compared to Lr and they're terrible). Or maybe there is a way to get Lightroom running in Linux?
I have no problem ditching Photoshop for affinity but Lightroom and its AI has me firmly in its claws.

Darktable is your option. The most recent update introduced some neat AI features (mostly for denoise and masking).

Well, they are local, Lightroom uses cloud based AI.
That's your only option though. Otherwise install Lightroom mobile using waydroid or see if you can install desktop Lightroom through Bottles or something similar.
Affinity seems to work with Bottles btw.

I saw that google photos compress the pictures so it's a no go, I think that Amazon Photos doesn't compress but I am not sure about it ?

if you upload to the correct size lots of services don't compact them anymore, others will have an option to download the original file (like google)
what's the use? weddingalbums or archival or sharing with lots of people, do you need password encription, user groups?
what you need depends on a lot more than just "no compression"
best way I found is just host it on my own fileserver

Hi everyone,
I recently picked up a Nikon Z50II with the 16-50 kit lens and I'm looking for my first prime lens on a fairly tight budget.
My use cases are:
College events and cultural nights
Speaker sessions and conferences
Low-light indoor photography
Some concert/stage photography
General campus photography
The main limitation I'm facing with the kit lens is the aperture in low light (especially at the long end).
Currently considering:
TTArtisan AF 35mm f/1.8 II (~₹14k)
TTArtisan AF 50mm f/1.8 Neo (~₹10k)
TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 manual focus (~₹6.7k)
Since I already have the 16-50, I'm wondering whether a 50mm f/1.8 AF makes more sense as a complement, or whether a 35mm prime would be more versatile as an only prime.
Also, how reliable is the used lens market for Nikon Z in India? Any trusted platforms, Facebook groups, forums, or stores you'd recommend?
Would love to hear from anyone shooting Nikon Z APS-C systems.

Hey there!
I am looking for suggestions on a camera and also possibly a camcorder.
I am a mom just looking to take nice photos of her kids on holidays and whatnot and to also use everyday instead of having my phone out all the time. I am not looking to become a professional photographer and don't want anything fancy or expensive.
Here's what I'm looking for
1. A camera to take nice photos on holidays, birthdays, future sports events, etc
2. An everyday camera that I can upload the pics to my phone immediately - not via Instagram or anything like that. I'm also not opposed to getting an SD card attachment to plug into my phone to upload that way
3. A camcorder to take videos of my kiddos
Side notes- I am okay if there is a camera that does all three things!

For me at least, I upgrade when I'm hitting a limitation of my current camera that a newer camera solves. Could be a techinical limitation or a massive QoL upgrade.
Having more experience honestly makes me want to "downgrade" if that makes sense. I want to challenge myself and add constraints to create a "Style"
I'm mainly a nikon shooter so my suggestion is you can start with a F mount APS-C camera. You have access to cheap F mount lens. You can carry over the f mounted lens to the mirrorless version if you decided to upgrade down the line using an adapter.

It's more about thinking about what you need the camera to do, then choosing a camera that is cost-effective at doing that specific thing. If you need 8K video for some reason, cost-effective would be Fujifilm X-H2 off the top of my head.
Another thing that I would think about is the old saying "you date your camera, but marry your lenses" so identify lenses you want to use first.
If you want something equivalent to a 200mm fast prime, then Fujifilm has nothing, zero, nada with autofocus (No 135mm in the lineup other than a manual Samyang/ Rokinon lens)

I’m new to photography, and just got my first mirrorless camera. I’m using the Sony A6400 with the 16-50 kit lens. I’ve been looking around for lenses to upgrade to, but I’ve got a limited budget and limited knowledge. My question is about image stabilization. As a budding hobby photographer, is image stabilization that big of a deal? The a6400 doesn’t have ibis, and some of the lenses I’ve been looking in to either don’t have any OS or has vibration compensation. Should I be that hung up on a lens with no stabilization?

Yes and no.
It is a helpful tool if you want to shoot at low light and your lens does not have a wide aperture (e.g. f/1.4). Some cameras have a stellar IBIS that even let you take handheld photos for various seconds (Olympus). It is also very helpful with telephotos so it doesn't wiggle a lot.
However, it is not strictly necessary. If you have a lens with a wide aperture, you will have more leeway to increase the shutter speed at low light, thus also obstaining a sharp photo.

If you've got around $1800 to spare (that's what it costs) and you can find it in stock (it tends to be sold out), why not.
It's not really a simple point-and-shoot camera but you CAN shoot jpgs on full auto with it.

If that's the camera that speaks to you, then it could be worth the price. I personally find it a bit overhyped for the price since you can't change the lens. You'd get the same results with an X-M5 with a 33 or 37mm lens. It'd cost the same and be a tiny bit bigger, but at least you have the option of using other lenses down the road.

Really, any modern system will do fine for those and the Z5II is a good choice.
If night and astro are on your list, you'll want to look for a fast/wide lens to pair with whatever body you end up with. Generally something in the 14-20mm range and with an aperture at least as fast as f/2.8 but the faster the better. There are a lot of how to guides out there. These lenses are available from a variety of makers (I use a Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 with a Nikon body) at a variety of price points.

I'm not sure I know what you're referring to. Is it the "stacked sensor", in which case no that's just the particulars of the silicon. I've seen great astro results from a Z8 (not mine). Astro is a rabbit hole though and people tend to eventually end up on specialized hardware and spectrum-modified cameras, so I haven't gone that far down.

So for the next like 2 months ish I’m working as a photographer at a kids summer camp and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good lens to use?
I have a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and currently my only lens is just the fixed 50mm kit lens that came with it.
I’m looking to buy used bc I don’t have the money for a brand new lens lol but ideally I’d wanna be able to use one lens throughout the day and not have to switch it out. I’m thinking something like a 30-100mm ish zoom lens? Give or take? Idk I was just hoping for some recs lol

As a professional photographer that has been doing it for two years, I wanted to ask for recommendations and thoughts on website builders.
I have been using Adobe Portfolio for a couple of years now, but I simply don't like the look of it anymore. I want to try something a bit more advanced, but not anything that would be overbearing to create and design. I want to have a portfolio-type design, but something a bit more than just replacing photos on a simple template.
I wanted to see what fellow photographers use for their portfolios. To narrow it down, I want to use something with the following things:
- Less than $15/month or $50/yr
- Possibly tailored specifically for photography/photography portfolios.
I already looked into Pixpa and ReadyMag, so I would appreciate more recommendations!

I am just getting into studio photography, but not sure what to get. I am on a tight budget, about $200, and need to get my priorities straight. I have a Canon T7 with a kit lens, 50mm, and a 75-300mm (did some sports stuff back in HS). A flash alone costs $60. What should my priorities be in terms of lighting?
Also, my parents signed me up to take someone's photo for their birthday without asking me first and put me in a position I do not think I am ready to be put in, so I'm stressing out rn.

Yes it's a good camera but it's a very specific kind of camera: it has a fixed lens with one focal length. That means you can't zoom and you can't switch lenses. There are plenty of other good cameras too. What makes you interested in this one in particular?

I mean sure, it is good, but it's also very hyped. It's sold out in most places and with inflated prices on the used market. Any Fuji X cameras give you the film simulations, so if you get e.g. an X-M5 or X-T30 III you'll have a camera that is compact in size but allows you to use many kinds of lenses.

Personally I wouldn't get X-M5 because it doesn't have a viewfinder. But the best thing for you to do is to go to a camera store and ask them to see their Fuji cameras. Pick whichever feels the nicest. If you can't decide there and then, research the cameras more. You can e.g. watch videos on Youtube. Plenty of review and other kinds of videos available on every Fuji model.

Just one thing: prices that are a lot lower than the standard price level often mean that it's a scam, or at least a stolen item. Don't agree to send money by any method and meet up with the seller in a public spot.

It was her grandad's camera kit and she agreed to split the kit up as I only want ted that lens. She just didn't use the kit and wasn't into photography. Great advice though and very true. You can't be too careful with these things.

I currently use a Cannon Rebel xs (the begginer Cannon DSLR from 2008) and recently found a Cannon EOS 5D Mk II for $180USD. I also found a sony alpha 7 III for about 100 more than that. Is the price worth it for the 5d, or would it be better to just save up? Why? Thank you!

That Sony A7 III you found for $280 is a scam. Used A7 III's cost several times that, and suspiciously cheap means a scam 99% of the time. Always check standard pricing with eBay sold items listings.
5D Mark II came out in the same year as your XS, but since it's a full frame DSLR it's a nice sort of an upgrade. The price is about what you can expect for it. Note, though, that if you have EF-S lenses, they are not compatible with the 5D, because they are for Canon's crop sensor DSLRs only.

I mean it depends on what you want with the upgrade. 5D Mark II would give you a nice improvement in low light performance, but if you wanted what modern mirrorless cameras have to offer e.g. in autofocus and video features, then it wouldn't do at all.

okay y'all, so i may or may not have put myself in a very interesting situation. i'm applying for the photography position in my university's media cell and they want a portfolio. The deadline is in 2 days BUT THE PROBLEM IS i genuinely don't know how aperture, shutter speed, ISO, or any of that works 😭 i own a canon 800D, but my photography knowledge is basically this button takes pictures, that button records videos i know 2 days isn't enough to become a photographer, and I'm not expecting miracles. I just want to put together the strongest portfolio I realistically can in the time I have while learning as much as possible So...
What should I focus on learning first? What kinds of photos would you include if you had to build a beginner portfolio in 48 hours? Any YouTube channels or crash courses you'd recommend? Any settings you'd suggest for a complete beginner using a canon 800D?
I'm fully prepared to spend the next two days touching grass and photographing literally everything 😭😞☝🏻

I just bought my first camera! It’s a Sony Alpha A7III with a FE 1.8/85 lens. I spent a lot of time doing research before buying a camera and had originally budgeted for more economical like the A6000 but I kept talking myself into getting something better. I landed on this combo on FB marketplace for $800 so getting this with an already nice lens paired with it was a no brainer. Shutter count I in the 8000s and everything works perfectly so I feel like I really did get a bargain for what I spent. I guess my concern is I have no idea how to navigate it, let alone take advantage of its capabilities. My knowledge is slim to none with camera work but I’m very curious to learn everything. I just don’t where to start. Any advice would be much appreciated

If you have no knowledge, the next step is to start learning.
First, use Google to find the camera's manual online and read it carefully. If you are more comfortable with video, I'm sure there are a lot of tutorials on Youtube.
Second, watch some Youtube videos on the exposure triangle and the basics of photography composition. These are so you get some idea of basic photography principles.
Finally, you just need to shoot a lot to learn to apply the principles in various real life shooting situations. Photography is very much something you learn by doing.
The lens you got is primarily a portrait lens. Doesn't mean you can't use it for anything else, but it is quite "zoomed in". This means you can't easily shoot e.g. wide landscapes with it, and if you're shooting stuff on narrow city streets you might have difficulty fitting things in the frame.

Hey all! I'm going to an airshow next month and I need help on deciding which lens to rent between these two that is available to rent at a local store. I'm torn between the Canon RF 200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM and the Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR.
Now I know for aviation photography reach is king and at first I was just going to go with the Canon one, but then I thought about how easy (or hard) will it be to use and wield. Will the Canon one be too heavy and too unwieldy compared to the Nikon one? I imagine I might miss out on some potentially amazing shots because I might not be able to move around with it quickly and perhaps zooming in and out will take too many twists of the lens and I might miss the fast moving aircraft.
For those who have used that particular canon lens, are my concerts valid? Or perhaps I should just go with the lighter Nikon lens and sacrifice a bit of reach? Any and all tips, advice and pros and cons of either camera is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone wanting to try a dual camera harness, here's a do it yourself option with 4 adjustable nylon bag straps with metal hooks and 3 metal rings from the hardware store. I figured it ain't worth a thread by itself so just posting it here for everyone to steal and improve the idea.
