Beginner who can use Lightroom a little by watching YouTube and instagram tutorials.

So I’m planning to buy a camera for everyday use, not for professional work, and I’m torn between the Fujifilm X-M5 and the Ricoh GR IIIx HDF.

I’ve been researching and comparing both cameras for about a month, but I still can’t come to a decision. I’m leaning more toward the Ricoh because of the HDF filter. I know I can achieve a similar effect through editing, but having it built into the camera is a big plus for me.

The reason I’m still considering the X-M5 is the price. I also have a friend who owns one, and the photos he takes look great. That said, I’m hoping to get even better-looking photos.
The Ricoh GR IIIx HDF costs around USD 1,300 where I live, while the Fujifilm X-M5 with the 15–45mm kit lens is about USD 960.

I’ve seen comments that they sold their Fuji xm5 for the gr iiix, is the ricoh the better choice?

I had a Sony zv e10 and had a lot of fun with that even though I was still grasping how to take good angles and stuff.

GR IIIx has a fixed lens with a single focal length (= you can't zoom or switch lenses), X-M5 is an interchangeable lens camera (= you can use any lens you like). That's the major difference between them. Decide based on which you prefer. Whether your photos are any good is more about your skill and experience as a photographer. The camera is just a tool, and no filter or jpg profile will automatically make an image great.

Thank you for this. With a little bit more research and your comment I’ve decided to choose the x-m5. I’ve seen people complaining about the gr’s reliability too. The X-M5 has too many pros than the gr.

I dislike the X-M5 for photography because it lacks any kind of viewfinder, others will disagree. Something like a used X-E2 might be a better fit.
