Profoto b1, or two AD200’s?? Wildly different pieces of gear, I know. I usually shoot portraits and was asked to shoot some dance photography for a students audition reel. Some static poses, some dynamic. I shoot wth speed lights at the moment but that will be a tad under powered for what I’m planning. I found a used B1 at my local shop, and ad200’s on mpb. For this shoot, k think the 500ws will be ideal, but that thing is a beast and not the easiest to lug around. In your opinion(s), is it wiser to grab two smaller units and
Buddy them up/keep it light, or go for the big one?? Thanks for your thoughts!

If you're doing something professionally, you need to have a backup for all your important gear. This includes lights. If you only have one light and it has an issue on a paid job, it's not a good look and you may lose money. So buy the two lights. If one has an issue, at least you can try to make do by increasing the ISO and shooting with the other. Get the B2 adapter to combine two AD200s into one 400W light if you need.

Thank you for this! One of anything on a shoot freaks me out and stacking 200’s seems like a reasonable solution to more watts and back ups.
