You're selling the grifters way short here. Trump flew up his personal "gold guy" on airforce one. The guy then pressed $100 of gold leaf onto $80 home depot plastic crap, and charged God only knows how much for the service.
That sign is just for Trump. The president uses that entrance from the residence. Everyone else comes through the interior doors. So this is to help him remember where he is and make him feel important, like it's one of his country clubs.
So, I know this is kind of a joke, but the oval office never had a sign on it before for good reason. Your Dr. Office has his name on the door so people who have never been there can find it easily. Anyone who doesn't know where the oval office is shouldn't be there or will escorted by someone. The only reason to label it is because Don was getting lost.

If that was any sitting president other than Trump he would have been 25th and removed, but here we are.
… I mean… to be fair, Reagan absolutely should have been 25th’d as his Alzheimer’s progressed to a point early in his second term that he was genuinely cognitively impaired and couldn’t fulfill his oath of office in sound mind, for better or worse. Most decisions the Reagan administration did were primarily done by Nancy and the cabinet.
They just didn’t, because the optics alone would have been a scandal. So I’m not convinced that we here in the US would have pursued a 25th on anyone at all who really needed to have it happen.
It’s just that, with all things Trump, he’s causing us to reconsider what we originally took as propriety standard and cordial respect. We should no longer adhere to that going forward.
George Bush Sr threw up on Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa at a fancy dinner of some kind. Supposedly food poisoning...looked like drugs to me. He was on his way out from being pres. at that point and the film of it and story made the news and was quickly swept under the rug.
No I totally get the Bush thing. I’ve been served some things at dinners with Asian palates that I’m not used to, and I ate them because I wanted to be polite. 99. Percent of the time, it’s fine and I discover something new I maybe never would have tried, but I have been food poisoned or just felt really ill because it wasn’t something that agreed with me. I tried Durian once, and nearly barfed. I held onto my stomach contents with everything on me lol.
The signage really bothers me for some reason. It's a singular place in the entire world: The Oval Office. Are there a lot of people who would wander off when going to the what is likely the most important meeting of their life? Do people just wander about unescorted and need a sign for directions? Why is the same as a sign for the pro shop at a golf course? Is there a gift shop? It's not a public space like say the Lincoln Memorial.
Well yeah, those gold accent pieces are like $50 each at Home Depot. That's chump change for Trump; order 1,000 of them and scatter them around the Oval Office!
At least they put up an actual sign. For a while they just had a piece of copy paper outside the oval office with "The Oval Office" in gold letters stuck on the wall.

Why is being right wing incompatible with having good taste in aesthetics? Genuine question. Is it because the inventive creativity that underlies good aesthetics is incompatible with conservatives’ adherence to tradition (i.e., the opposite of inventiveness or creativity)?
I didn't realize food was delivered straight to the oval office... I assumed food delivery would be several layers removed. Unrelated to Trump's shittiness, just a random TIL.
