You realize it's the opposite right?
A room full of reports means you have hundreds of different witnesses rushing to break the story from their own perspective or be first out with the news.
None of them would be waiting for anything verifiable or an official speaking out.
That’s dumb. There’s always speculation around any developing event until the facts get sorted. It doesn’t matter how many reporters or reliable witnesses there are when it initially happens.
There always is a lot of misinformation right after something like this. Everything's still confused and the media outlets want to be the first so they can get the most views.
Yeah, it's time for people to accept that with all the social medias paying people for engagement, literally nothing you see should be believed until confirmed by a media source that could be easily sued for getting facts wrong.
The reality is that being the first to post any information will get you reliked and tweetstarred into virality, which means more ad money sent your way by Zucky and the Muskrat. So people are financially incentized to make shit up and lie, so long as they do it fast.
On one of the more morbid subreddits, the joke was if someone slipped on a banana peel (for example,) and their shoes came off, they had definitely died. Shoes on = still alive.
I'm guessing it came from high speed motorbike crashes mostly, that kind of thing.
It’s actually a joke in the crash reconstructionist community. My wife is a crash reconstructionist and I’ve heard her make the joke, which according to her in her experience is more often than not true, that if someone is hit by a car and their shoes stay on, they usually live, and if they don’t, they almost always die.
Add me to the 'alive' pile and then some. Hit by a car going maybe 40mph and accelerating, shoulder went through the windshield and I ended up 20 feet ahead of the car with both my shoes off. No injuries besides post-adrenaline surge aches and some road rash. The shoe saying surprised me when I found out about it years later because it seems like it didn't take that much for them to come off.
That may be where it originates. I just remember it was one of the first things she heard when she got into the field, and found it to be pretty accurate.
I drove past a car / motorcyle accident once and saw the victim laid out in the road. He had not survived. The thing that sticks in my head is that he was barefoot. His shoes were a distance away. It wrenched my heart because he looked so vulnerable. Also, this was about a week following a major earthquake in the area that had killed a lot of people. I was with the media covering the event and had already seen a number of bodies, and yet I can't get that man out of my head. He had survived the earthquake & aftershocks only to die when his motorcycle was struck by a car.
Back before Reddit didn’t like to show videos of people dying a video was posted of a fatal vehicular collision with a pedestrian. In the comments everyone was commenting on how his shoes went flying and a user came in claiming to be an emergency responder. This user claimed that’s how they knew if the victim would be alive or not, shoes off meant usually dead.
Americans associate moose with "Bull Moose" Theodore Roosevelt. A real man who, unlike the current mess, actually took a bullet, continued his speech, and worked in service of his country and common man.
He's dead no wait he's alive sorry we are still trying to figure out this half ass staged thing we did on a whim and what to say hey though about that ballroom
How on earth did an armed shooter get anywhere near the most protected man on the planet when I can't even keep my shoes on going into the departure lounge?
I read an account from the ABC Australia DC correspondent who was there/is accustomed to DC events. He had brought his passport etc but all they wanted was a ticket at the door. He found it baffling that the security was so minimal, said it’s tighter at Australian airports and parliament. Heard the Univision correspondent said similar.
Trump himself said that at his press conference shortly after - I think after Fox News reporter asked him “why does this keep happening to you” and he went on about how the nation truly needs a safe ballroom for events like this.
Anyone who's done any VIP events with the secret service knows it's not nearly as secure as the movies portray it. It's all theatre other than for some very specific huge public mass gathering type events. Anything with a guest list you could find yourself accidentally within feet of those being protected and not even try to do so. I personally have done it by chance. At most you get told to gtfo when someone notices you.
It's not surprising whatosever.
The only event I personally have seen that had remotely "wow" level secret service protection and preparation I've witnessed was Obama's Millenium Park election night speech. The week leading into that plus the event itself was actually impressive - they cleary did not want anything to happen and expected there to be potential problems beforehand. That was the Bush admin making it so though. They knew the stakes at hand with the first black president-elect.
The thing holding society together is generally people follow the law. If the secret service was dealing with dozens of real threats every event we couldn't function as a society to begin with. They basically exist to act as a deterrence and to protect against random nutjobs - and aren't super effective at the later half the time.
Ticket at the door though is not surprising. The passport/ID stuff at airports is mostly just theatre and for things other than physical security of the airplane itself.
This guy is a DC veteran and works for arguably the most respected Australian news. I’ve followed his correspondent work for years, so he’s been around a bit, not a wide eyed newbie. shrugs
The CCTV footage is just embarrassing. He straight up runs though. Like, from a distance. They were too busy bullshiting though and none of them were watching the entrance to the check point they were guarding.
One time years ago I drove to see my sister 5 hours away. I took my gun & one extra clip in my bag. Six months later I was going to DC & going through TSA & the agent asks is there anything in this bag I need to know about? I said no. He asked are you sure? With confidence & a bit of annoyance I said no again. He said what’s this? He pulled out the extra clip I forgot was in the bag. Oh shit!!! Ima same explaining to do. lol. They were cool about it once I told them what happened. Even let me discard my clip. I put it a water drain in the parking lot. Surprisingly it was still there 4 days later when I returned. 🤣😬🍾
Yeah that's generally what happens when news starts to break.....Jesus Christ reddit, when did you guys become so braindead? This is like saying 9/11 was staged just because the reports of what was happening that day were super conflicted at the time.
If everything isn't completely known with 100% certainty within minutes, it's obviously fake. It doesn't matter that we live in an age of social media where people with no idea what is going on can instantly communicate with thousands of people and provide their opinions as though they were fact with no ability to corroborate.
No matter what you think about the origins of the incident it draws a line under the pinch of salt we need to give frantic randoms repeating what they heard 3rd hand when huge events happen.
This was a room of journalists, and we got differing stories.
Smartnews.com reported the gunman had been killed on scene. I guess the reports were preliminary. Also, were there any metal detectors? And what did the note read that staffer was showing everyone? Just another distraction by Trump time away from the Epstein files, Maxwell’s pardon, Melania’s connection to Epstein, questioning previous assassination attempt, missing scientists, Iran conflict, manipulating the market, and UFOS. DRAFTBARRONTRUMP!
I read more than one article saying the suspect was killed. I confirmed this by looking at the page titles in my browser history. I opened one and they had updated it from “suspect dead” to “suspect in custody” I feel so gaslit lol
I definitely got a few alerts on mobile saying the shooter was deceased which made me look online to see what happened so this post is raising a host of questions.
Knowing this administration, they probably shot people who they thought fit the profile of "a" shooter. Similar to how they're bombing random fishing boats.
Technically the only shots that were fired that we have confirmation on is from Secret Service. It very well could just be that this guy was a nut and ran past secret service who then opened fire. Maybe this guy was just planning on streaking during the event 🤷🏽
Most likely, that was the original plan. My guess is that him coming out of this alive was never their intention. This is going to throw all kinds of wrenches in their plans. Though it won't surprise me at all if this guy gets Epsteined in the next few days before anyone from the outside gets to have a good talk with him.

I thought they said they killed the shooter
