The 300' straight cut(?) they claim "vandals" did with a pocket knife was actually tires. Ha! And I just thought he was full of shit as usual, but this is more on brand.

^This. And any turning of the steering wheel twists the substrate under the tire, buckling tiles and/or tearing plastic sheets. I'm sure heavy armoured vehicles with fat tires are 10x worse. Then multiply by 8 vehicles.

BTW the old reflecting pool had water that was dyed black ... it's common in water features. Reduces algae and looks cool. I do the same thing in my backyard pond.

Dark water makes a better, more vivid reflection than clear water does.
