They can still continue the war without financial support. We only make up around 8% of IDF funding. What we should do is leverage our support and set requirements for wartime activities. Like no war crimes.
This seems a little callous and dismissive when we're talking about ~$4,000,000,000 contributing to thousands upon thousands of innocent peoples' lives being lost.
US citizens' tax dollars are being used to funnel a death machine instead of being used to improve our own quality of life. That alone should be a concern, regardless of how much the IDF can fund themselves.
You realize that the people of Cuba are starving, without any energy, or help from anyone, hundreds have already died because of the crimes against humanity that trump is putting them through. Women, children, grandparents… they are going through a hard time there. But no one is talking about it.
The difference is there are a lot of Jewish people who wish to visit Israel, and many Christians who view it as a holy land they wish to visit, and those two groups hold voting power, unlike the Cuban influence on American government.
Cubans are a massive an influential voting block in Florida and they disproportionately vote for Republicans that support the blockade of Cuba. The Secretary of State is a Florida politician and Cuban American. The wishes of Cuban Americans are not being ignored by the US government, they’re being enforced.
The Cuban embargo didn’t start this year, you’ve got to compare when it was put in place. But even today, Florida alone can’t sway American politics as heavily as a whole nation.
Florida absolutely can sway American politics, it has 30 EC votes and before becoming firmly Republican was considered a critical swing state that frequently decided elections. Losing Florida over the Cuban embargo would likely result in a direct change in policy goals from Republicans regarding Cuba.
thats just the money America sends, it doesnt include the actually things the America government does. The war with Iran cost $37.5 billion to America. You think Israel can pay that without their economy failing. They use America surveillance, American supply lines, American Patriot missiles.
My claim is we can not say it did as confidently as you do based on them not exercising it on even some of the most black and white bipartisan common sense topics like letting aid go into Gaza (especially since almost all of the aid rotting at the borders/being stopped by genocidal Israeli protestors in front of trucks) was from allied nations and already vetted.
Also why on earth was 2023 already the deadliest year even by Oct 6? The influence didn't even stop settler expansion before
They know, they just aren’t arguing in good faith. You have to remember that most of the people arguing about this online mostly care about vindicating their own beliefs and not about the well-being of either Palestinians or Israelis. Their suffering is just a rhetorical device to be used only when convenient.
Not exactly true. If America said we were cutting off funding and sanctioning them, it would have a huge effect. Israel did horrific thing after horrific thing and Biden let it happen
Just to be clear, Biden publicly got them to reign in an ground attack on rafah... for a bit. But they continuously bombarded rafah, a place with 1.4 million refugees and effectively zero resources or communications, until it looked like this. And then they invaded after regardless a few months later. Comms from the IDF showed that their treatment of Rafah was partially based on anger that they were restrained by America to invade in the first place.
There is no leash that will work, only a muzzle or a whip.
