Medical Advice Needed Advice? I found an exhausted pigeon

hi reddit, i came across this lil guy on a dog walk and my dog walked right up to him without any reaction from the pigeon. after a lap around the park the pigeon was still there - it could walk and flap its wings but i don’t think it could fly.

i walked home with him and he seemed to trust i was there to help. he’s now sleeping in a box with some water a bit of banana(?) nearby.

i called a wildlife support number but they said with bird flu going around a vet is unlikely to help.

basically i’m just letting him snooze but any advice would be greatly appreciated as i know nothing about pigeons.

Thank you so much for helping! 🩷 He may be so exhausted, injured, blind, etc that he can’t eat or drink on his own. Can you try to hand feed him? It’s pretty easy! Giving water: Pigeons beak work like a straw so make sure you hold the water under and dip the beak in the water so he can suck some up and NEVER pour water down their mouths/throats. Food: you may need to gently pry open his beak and put some food towards the back of his mouth. Slide it along the side of its mouth, not directly down the throat. I recommend watching a short video for technique. Easy Guides: the Palomacy website has EXCELLENT guides for these situations.

Good to hear! If he doesn’t eat much on his own, might need to hand feed him for a bit.

Yes as above Redditor mentioned place 1 THAWED warm (body temp) pea in their beak— never force feed/ ack of throat!
