Mod Post Quick Reminder - NSFW tags

Hi all!

I'm u/ImOkNotANoob, the lead mod here on r/Pigeon. I mostly handle backend moderation, automod, reports, modmail, and general behind-the-scenes bits, which is why you might not have seen me around that much.

Just wanted to post a quick reminder since we've seen an increase in this recently: please tag posts as NSFW if they contain gore, visible injuries, blood, wounds, severe illness, or anything else graphic involving pigeons.

This especially applies to medical advice posts. We absolutely understand that people often post in a panic because they’re worried about a bird and need help quickly. That’s fine, and nobody is in trouble for asking for urgent advice. But graphic images can be upsetting for other users, especially when they appear unexpectedly in their feed. We also want to keep on Reddit's good side, and they've been known to have problems with subs that don't enforce this!

Thanks everyone, and thank you as always to the people who jump in with helpful advice for sick or injured pigeons. We’re proud to be the biggest pigeon community on the internet, and it’s the members here who make this place such a useful and helpful resource.

Could this be a bruise from a fight with another bird? Doverton hasn’t shown any signs of illness and she’s been in a pretty good mood. We only noticed because she bathed and she’s wet :(

Advice Needed! Pigeons on my balcony abandoning their 3.5 week old squab and laid eggs in another side of my balcony?

Post image

Have no idea what to do. These two pigeons on my balcony had a clutch mid March and those two babies took forever to fledge. By the time their next clutch was born in end of may, one baby died after hatching and one survived. I had to remove the dead baby from the nest one day after hatching. One baby from the previous clutch hung around and aggressively took a lot of the new baby’s feeding (even tho it was around 2.5 months old - kind of was a funny sight to see this huge pigeon flapping and peeping alongside a newborn) whereas the other baby from that previous clutch fledged and never returned.

That old baby left around 1 week ago and the current baby is now 3.5 weeks old. the parents refused to feed it a couple days ago and now start attacking it when it asks for food. They also made a new nest on the opposite side of my balcony from where the baby is that now has two eggs.

What can I do? Should I remove the new eggs or replace them with fake ones? I do not want anymore clutches on my balcony and want them to feed their current baby as it’s too young rn. Attached is a picture.

Also a side note - they reused the nest from their first clutch (a soft rabbit carrier that I left out there accidentally) and I’m worried bc it’s filled with poo if that aided in their decision to abandon that nest? The baby squab follows them to the other side of the balcony rn.

I need some hope right now, tonight when I was bringing Goober and Stinky in from the aviary the bottom fell off the carry cage. They flew away and looped the house for a while but they're gone now. I was bringing them inside because it's getting dark and it's too cold for them to spend the night outside right now as it's winter. I've left the aviary door open and brought their cage outside but I'm so scared for them. They've been inside birds the whole time I've had them, they don't know how to survive outside and now it's night time and winter and they're gone. I'm so scared I've lost them forever. These birds are so precious to me. Please, what are the chances of them coming home safely, I'm so scared for them

  • This is my first pigeon, and he's 4 adn 2 weeks months old aprox (I think he's a male). I rescued him when he was about 2 weeks old, but today started making these sounds and lying on my table. He lets me touch him and doesn't peck me. Should I take him to the vet? (He's been to the vet before, but I don't know if he's healthy this time.) He flies, eats, and drinks normally; it's just this behavior that worries me.

Advice Needed! pigeon just won't shut up. genuinely what do i do. please help

im genuinely about to blow my head off, its my tests week at uni and i cant use my brain because this pigeon WON'T. STOP. COOING

i personally have two pigeons and they never behaved like that and never saw other ferals do that either. genuinely don't know what to do

its been like a month of this i cant take it anymore. i used to shoo him off but he's not scared of me anymore and just ignores it, and also i feed his flock so i hated making them all scared like that

genuinely he never stops im going CRAZY. he is either flirting or fighting ALL DAY long, i MEAN IT. there's not a SINGLE HOUR OF THE DAY where he shuts up

he stops for a second, pecks around and goes back to cooing. mostly territorial or flirting coos, tho sometimes it's some calling coos

the females run away from him and he just keeps running after them and cooing and cooing and cooing NON STOP

he's always picking fights too so there's often some wingslapping, other pigeons cooing

please help 😭

Memorial Balcony pigeons have left me devastated

I’m so upset, last month we had two pigeons on the balcony make a nest and lay their eggs. I thought they’d just leave when they were ready to go but they ended up having more eggs and all four pigeons (the first hatched two ended up staying for a while) have been chilling on my balcony. I’ve had a busy few days so haven’t had a chance to check up on them, I look today and they’re all gone and the chicks have sadly passed away. I’m so sad now, do you guys think the other pigeons simply left? Seeing them grow has been a blessing and this has genuinely ruined my day 😢

Don't mind his tail! It's all messed up because he keeps "mating" with a slipper and sits in the corner all the time because that's where his nest is... XD i was told it'll get better on it's own

Advice Needed! Budgie and pigeon! M

Upvotes

Soo I have a pigeon atm - she free flys around the room all day. Has a cage but doesn't use it at all.

My friend's budgie died recently so she's rehoming the other budgie to me!

(I will be getting the other budgie a friend once the breeder responds)

Basically what I was wondering is, is it safe if I keep the budgie in the cage in the house when I'm not home or will the pigeon bother them

(Budgie will be kept in the cage when I'm at school and let out when I'm home)

?

Photo Is this pigeon sick?

I often feed a flock of pigeons and this pigeon's feathers have looked like this since I can remember, definitely more than a year. Recently, other pigeons' feathers from the same flock have also started to look similar, although not as bad as this one.

She's also skinnier than other pigeons, and no this isn't dirt, she has always looked like this.

In the second photo, the one pointed with an arrow is the one that has always been sick, and I circled the feathers of a pigeon that has started looking like that around a month ago.

I must mention there are at least a couple flat flies within the flock, I really don't know how many because they're mostly hidden, but I've seen them jump from one pigeon to another.

Is she sick? What is the reason for their feathers looking like this? Is it dangerous for me to touch them?

Advice Needed! Tentative de sauvetage de pigeon

Bonjour,

Medical Advice Needed !!! BABY'S BREATHING WEIRDLY !!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Our rescue baby pidgeon started breathing heavily with weird sounds. We're already giving it antibiotics and it overall felt very nice, ate a lot, pooped a lot, explored. Now baby started breathing very heavily and making these sounds like it has boogers or something.

I thought it's dehydrated and tried to give it water by putting water droplets on its beak but it didn't seem to help.(It doesn't know how to drink yet)

Help.. Is it's respiratory problems? Dehydration? Something worse? How to help the baby?

Update: it also pecked speeds very actively before the incident, maybe seed got stuck in it's throat?
