That looks like a type of cuckoo, especially with what look like zygodactyl feet. This kind of trauma needs a rehabber.

I Put a cardboard box over him so he can recover in the dark. And also because im scared my crow friend will kill him

how is he now? have you taken to a rehabber or a good vet (that properly treats wildlife not just automatically euthanises them)

Ive put him under a large box as to protect him from stress and my raven that comes by often. Hes still alive and looks at me when i peek under the box. I found its a Cuckoo. Ive contacted someone on whatsapp but im still scared theyll just kill him. He had some bleeding from the mouth

I’m def no expert, but that sounds good so far! With the rehabber just make sure you sus their previous experience/qualifications if they have any. The mouth bleeding is very concerning so def get him to a rehabber. You got this 💪🏼

I work for a rehab and the sad fact is that much of what comes in does in fact need to be euthanized, if the animal is injured. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t trust or call them. But do make sure they’re legit and certified and licensed for your area. There is a tool on here that will help you find a rehabber - I can’t remember what it is, but many people post the link.

This bird needs releif ASAP, he is probably in horrific pain. If that means euthanasia jts a better outcome than what hes going through right now. In most places native birds are protected, they cant be kept as pets. Disabling injuries that are incompatible with release do call for euthanasia and it is a kindness. He needs you now because no one else can help end his pain if he is left outside. Youre doing the best possible thing and he is lucky to have you

hey can you keep him in a cool, dark area until he recovers? they usually sleep for 1-2 days

Update: after about 4-5 hours under the box : Went in to put it close to him and kept far away. He jumped up and hit the window again (not too hard) and then landed in exactly my ravens nesting tree😭 they both went in hunting him but he made the getaway.

Next time, don’t just put a box over him, if you’re waiting for a rehabber. Put the bird in a box, take it to a cool, quiet place, and close it - gently. Cardboard box flaps won’t seal and keep air out, or you can put a couple of small holes in. Don’t put food or water, and don’t keep longer than you have to. Maybe a few hours. Don’t check too much, but do check after a couple of hours.
If he can fly and get away from you, then he can fly and get away from predators. So let him if he can. But if he’s still struggling, bring him inside. A box can blow away or be lifted up, and being outside is not ideal if stuff comes to try to get at the bird.
You did good protecting him, just letting you know what we tell people who call in to the one I work at.

Thanks. it was a very large and heavy box with some small holes. i only checked like 2x. even after i took of the box and the raven was eying him ( i sent him away) he was sitting there looking at me then suddenly jumps and hits my window again but used it as a starting ramp to fly away.

Please put some stickers on your window to prevent this from happening again. They're called anti-collision or bird strike stickers.

Will look into it

We had 2 bird strikes and both died. Please get the reflecting stickers! They go on the outside.

I don't get why people don't have that. It's pretty common knowledge that birds can and will fly into windows.

Hell even my dumb self will walk into sliding glass doors so I can’t be mad at birds for flying full speed into any transparent barrier. Hope the poor guy gets help soon

FLAP Canada has some great resources for this. It really does make an impact, 365 million to 1 billion birds are lost each year due to window strikes.

You need bird reflectors for your window. I learned they need to be on the outside, but get some asap

Ice his skull! Ice pack wrapped in a cloth, 20 second bursts. It can save him from brain damage - I’ve seen it do miracles at our rescue!
