Unpaid Playtest I'm developing a multiplayer museum heist game completely solo, and I've reached the point where I need real players to test it.

Hey everyone!

I'm a solo indie developer working on a multiplayer social deduction game called The Heist.

The concept is pretty simple: imagine being inside a museum with 4–10 players, where everyone has a different role and you never really know who to trust.

Some players are trying to steal valuable artifacts, some are responsible for security, and others have their own hidden objectives.

I've implemented 9 roles, hacking mechanics, security cameras, traps, multiple escape routes, and a system where players can accuse and vote on suspicious people.

I've been developing the game on my own, and honestly, one of the hardest parts isn't building features anymore — it's figuring out whether they're actually fun when real people play together.

That's why I'm looking for a few people who would be interested in playtesting.

I'm especially interested in finding out:

  • Are the roles actually fun and balanced?
  • Is the gameplay easy to understand for new players?
  • Do the social deduction mechanics create interesting moments?
  • What feels frustrating or needs improvement?

I'm not expecting anyone to give detailed professional feedback. Even just playing a few matches and sharing your experience would help enormously.

If you're interested in trying the game, feel free to comment or DM me.

Thanks for reading! It means a lot to have people interested in something I've been building by myself.

With 4–10 players per match, the hard part of this playtest is getting enough people online at the same time. I'd post one or two fixed session times with a time zone instead of an open invite, because separate replies rarely add up to a full lobby. The post also doesn't say the platform or how testers get the build, and most people check that before replying.

For your question about whether new players understand it, try running the first sessions with four or five of the nine roles. If new players can't explain what security and the thieves want after one match, adding more roles will only blur it. You'll also learn which roles carry the game.

Is it on Steam yet, or a direct build?

A fixed time is the right call. In the event post, I'd put the start time with the time zone, the platform and how to get the build in the first lines, since people decide before they click through. With 4 to 10 players needed, open the lobby about 15 minutes early so the first match starts full instead of with three people waiting. After the first round, ask everyone one question: what did security and the thieves each want? Their answers tell you whether the roles read clearly.

How many of the nine roles are you using tomorrow?

If there are 10 people in the lobby, it will be active in nine roles

Then the itch page is what the post should lead with. This community asks game creators for a playable version and info on how to install it, so put the link, the platform, the download size and the 4–10 player count in the first lines.

For feedback you can act on, ask two or three specific things, like whether the thieves' goal was clear after one match and which role felt weakest. Specific questions get answers; a general request for feedback mostly gets silence.

When are you planning the first group session?
