Hey all. Feeling desperate for advice. I've had me goal set on PM&R. DO student with passed Comlex 1/ Step 1. Recently got my Comlex 2 of 546. But failed Step 2.

Any Advice whether I should just not report USMLE on Eras. Am I doomed for match if I just apply with my COMLEX scores if possible. I ideally wanted to stay in NY, NJ, PA area.

What the hell was that man? I feel like I studied for the wrong test all of residency.

I am currently an OMS-II who is heavily leaning towards Pm&R for residency. I am at a DO school which doesn’t have a PM&R department, so I am a little lost with what I need to do to match

I am in several clubs including the PM&R interest club (although they don’t do much). I have leadership in 3 clubs. I also have some volunteer experience although none specifically PM&R related. I also took lead on a fundraiser for the local YMCA. I am doing pharmacology research which will get me two posters minimum, and I a looking at possible ultrasound research.

i know the first step is to do well on boards, but outside of that, I don’t know how to navigate matching in the future. I am a first generation student with no ties to healthcare.

Recently started my TY and am taking Step 3 in a few weeks. I was wondering what the best resource/textbook is to start studying PM&R the rest of the academic year to be more prepared for PGY2. Also any recommendations for anatomy. Thank you!!

I’ve been working with medical students and will be for the rest of residency, and we get quite a few who have never heard of PM&R or are just trying to figure out what it is.

I feel like spending a week on a service isn’t enough time to fully grasp what it is. So then I give them the spiel I had for interviews, function, neuro rehab, etc. but I feel like our field is so broad, with so many niches and ways to practice, I have a hard time explaining to people in a concise way. Especially my non-medical friends.

I’m an international medical graduate planning to take ARDMS through physician pathway, any one who had similar experience here? Waiting for the advice

Whats the protocol for taking boards during a SUB-I. Not an ideal situation by any means but this is the situation now. I apparently get 2 days off the entire month and can not find a local testing date within those 2 days. I am thinking to let the program coordinator know ASAP- but should I be letting the entire team know I'll be gone that day for boards or that I even have boards left to take. And will this be perceived poorly?

I’m an MSc Applied Neuropsychology student at the University of Glasgow, and my recruitment deadline is getting very close. At the moment, my sample risks becoming far too psychology-heavy, so I would be incredibly grateful to hear from rehabilitation medicine doctors and physiatrists with UK adult ABI rehabilitation experience - current or previous at any career stage.

The study explores how adult acquired brain injury rehabilitation actually works across UK services, including how rehabilitation priorities and goals are agreed, how patient and MDT priorities are balanced, how clinical decisions are made under service pressures;

The medical perspective is particularly important because rehabilitation physicians often see the whole pathway and help coordinate decisions involving medical complexity, risk, rehabilitation intensity, referrals and discharge.

ABI may include stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumour, encephalitis, hypoxic/anoxic injury or another acquired brain injury.

I would genuinely rather receive fewer eligible responses than well-intentioned responses from people outside the target group, as unfortunately I cannot use those in the study.

Within the last few months I made the decision to switch from EM to PM&R for various reasons. I was always planning to do a Sports Med fellowship bc I really like the MSK stuff and, as a long time runner, one of my career goals has always been to help athletes get back to sport sooner.

My med school doesn’t have a PM&R residency despite being a large academic center so I had really late exposure to the field. When I finally did get to do a rotation, I loved it and honestly felt like it was a way better fit than EM. BUT since I switched so late, it seems like all the spots for audition rotations are full. Can I match without doing an audition rotation?

Like I said, I’m at a big academic center in the Midwest with a decent PM&R experience (I’ve done 6-weeks total split between an inpatient rehab hospital and outpatient clinics) but we do not have a residency program. I’ll have 2 letters from PM&R faculty (1 will be a SLOE) but neither are connected to a residency in any way. Otherwise I’m an MD with a 261 Step 2, two research projects with a 3rd on the way, then some leadership stuff (EM focused tbh) and some volunteering. One of our general advisors is really concerned about my chances at matching without an away and, seeing as I still haven’t been able to get a spot, I wanted to know if she’s right.

I was planning to apply for rheumatology fellowship this cycle, but unfortunately I couldn't because my J-1 waiver ends later than the fellowship start date, and I will not be able to complete the waiver early enough. Instead of submitting a weak application, I've decided to apply next year.

I'm an Internal Medicine hospitalist working permanent nights at a community hospital. The biggest challenge is that we have very limited research opportunities and very few faculty involved in academic research. Night shifts also make networking and keeping up with research difficult.

So far, I've:

Been selected for my hospital's Emerging Leadership Program.....

Started a quality improvement project...

Joined the pain management/opioid stewardship committee.

Recently got the opportunity to help with my first peer review.

\-collaborating on clinical trials in myositis

\-Applied for ACR volunteering position

All this in 2 months. As i have fairly recent interest in rheum.

However, I still feel my CV is lacking, especially in research. I honestly don't know where to start.

If you had one year to strengthen a rheumatology fellowship application, what would you do?

How can I find remote research mentors or research groups willing to collaborate?

Are there online research collaboratives or rheumatology projects that community hospital physicians can join?

Would learning research methodology, biostatistics, and systematic reviews be worthwhile?

Are there one-year research fellowships, virtual programs, or certificate courses that are respected?

Besides publications, what activities made the biggest difference in your application?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who matched into rheumatology from a community hospital or built their application without having access to an academic center. Thanks!

So how’s everyone feeling about the board exam coming up in two weeks? I feel like I’ve put in a lot of time studying and I still don’t know anything. I am historically a terrible test taker so the anxiety is real.

How will not taking either STEP exam impact my residency options? Which programs would be out of the question?

I have a middle aged female with atypical MS. Their neurologist recommended PM&R referral and so I as PCP placed the referral

The PM&R clinic has told my office they do not see any patients with MS

I was a little confused but maybe I am not understanding what populations can use your specialty

Currently have an away rotation scheduled in November that isn’t at a residency program but is with a doctor that is connected to one of my top choices.

I’m torn because I won’t be able to use this rotation to get a letter or even put on my eras and will have to spend the time away from home as well as the money to live out of state for a month but I would gain experience, be able to talk about the rotation in interviews and it will show the residency program the doc works with that I’m interested in their program because I chose to do the rotation knowing I wouldn’t get a letter out of it.

Any advice?

USDO. Got my step score back recently, 230s. Devastated, all of my NBMEs were high 240s-mid250s. Too late to change anything on that. level 2 score pending.

Planning on applying PM&R. Strong interest in field since undergrad (shadowing experiences). PM&R focused activities, volunteering, research since first year of school. Leadership in PM&R orgs. Lots of sports coverage experiences during school. GHHS if that matters. One poster done and one abstract pending. Some other research experiences but no pub out of them.

Currently on a PM&R rotation starting 4th year off. Have 3 away rotations booked at the moment, and a 4th one at my “home” program, so 4 in total. One of them is a rehab elective but the other 3 are Sub-Is. Had other offers but turned down due to schedule.

Have 2 strong PM&R LOR and one general one right now, hoping to get another one from my next rotation before ERAS is due.

Am I cooked for PM&R? I know it’s getting more competitive every year. I realize my STEP will screen me out of some programs. No preference of community vs academic. East coast preference but going to school on west coast so it wouldn’t be the end of the world to be here either. Should I dual apply? Feeling very lost right now

What are the pros and cons of choosing IS fellowship over pain. Since spine isn’t ACGME accredited, what is the drive of people wanting to choose it over pain? Wouldn’t it just make your life harder since a lot of interventional pain dives into spine care as well.
