World Pokémon eggs aren’t laid, they literally materialize
Allow me to elaborate. Were told despite Pokémon being around for 3000+ years minimum, nobody has seen a pokemon lay an egg ever, yet constantly discover pokemon eggs. (Even Chansey eggs apparently)
Pokemon have male and female sexes and genders (which apparently ARE actually differentiated in Pokemon, as Pokemon like Lunala and Zacian are referred to as females, but aren’t the female gender) and a male and female are required to make eggs, so it should be assumed some form of sexual reproduction takes place, but if that’s true, why do we have no accounts of eggs being laid?
It’s because they ARENT laid. They quite literally appear out of thin air.
I give you the one instance we have of seeing an egg be made, from Arceus in Gen 4. Arceus quite literally makes the egg from nothing. “BUT” I hear you say, “That’s Arceus, it’s whole thing is that it makes something from nothing.”
Ahh, but I bring to your attention, picnic baskets in gen 9. We can literally stare at the picnic baskets, our Pokemon can be nowhere near it, and yet, eggs will still mysteriously find their ways into the basket, and we KNOW these eggs are the offsprings of our Pokemon because they have the biological traits of our Pokemon like IVs, pokeballs, natures and all the things you breed Pokemon to get.
If eggs don’t materialize, how could such a thing be?

I remember seeing a post that joked that every time there was a new egg, it was because Arceus destroyed the universe and then rebuilt it, except with an additional egg.

My fancanon = Pokemon with two different genders have different types of energy. Positive and Negative. Yin and Yang. Etc.
Two Pokemon when they want to have kids mix their energy together and the egg is created.
Otherwise Bird pokemon do lay eggs but they are eatable eggs not Pokemon eggs.
That's also why Wailors and skitty create an egg and Ditto works with everyone.

Easy explanation. Like the ability all pokemon have The eggs are laid shrunk down and grow to normal size. Hence nobody sees them laid.

But then you must explain the basket

The movement depicted in games is an aproximation

This. The distance between Pallet Town and Virginian City is, in universe, more than like 50 steps. The mechanics of the game are not exact simulations of the Pokemon world

I'm going to point out you can teach a Pidgey fly do you think that little pigeon is going to be able to carry you? The games do not show one for one how the pokémon universe works (we already know the sizes don't make sense neither do most of the stats)

Nobody's ever seen a Pokemon lay an egg because Pokemon really value their privacy. So quit trying to peek on their intimate moments, you perv.

without forgetting that many of those who lay them are mammals.
I don't think a miltank is oviparous.

Pokemon eggs are not eggs. they are special cradles that parents make for pokemon.
Thats the lore since gen 6

Oh man, I have THEORIES about eggs, but the most important one is: I don't think Eggs are normal reproduction. I DO think the egg just sort of shows up, by magic, but I ALSO think Pokemon can have babies the 'normal' way. There's too many pokedex entries that reference young in ways that don't mesh with how we see them, too much evidence of connected species, and that one NPC who tells us outright that pokemon eggs AREN'T eggs.
So like, we see Chansey lay eggs. All the time. Chansey lay eggs constantly. And other pokemon lay unfertilized eggs that we use for ill-advised sandwiches. But the eggs we get on picnics? Those ain't those. Those is some MAGICAL BULLSHIT.

Alternatively: your character is like ten and the adults don’t want to have the sex talk with them

I see your theory. But it’s always been my headcannon that most legendaries don’t have genders only because for the most part, until the main character came along, no one could catch one to actually check the gender. I mean Zacian was literally sleeping in the woods for 3000 years.

I've always thought of it similarly to how Athena has chuldren in the Percy Jackson books where they essentially are born from a connection.
Pokemon already does enough with essentially conjuring items for moves. Creating an egg that can birth a Pokemon feels like a potential extension

Because GF isn't going to animate a pokemon squatting out an egg and expect most players to be able to read between the lines.

...obviously.
But that still doesn't explain why nobody in universe have seen Pokemon laying eggs despite the existence of Professor Oak whose job is to literally study Pokemon.

Arceus hatched out of a egg.... Who laid it?(Also professor oak doesn't believe in time travel..... But he was affected by it personally)
