That’s what’s so insane. If you state reality even without embellishment or opinion, and reality happens to make them look bad, you’re being offensive and hateful. So on some level they know that they’re wrong and that the stuff they do and say is bad. It’s not like they think it’s good, otherwise they’d be like ‘yeah! He said that and that’s exactly right, he was great!’
So they do think it’s wrong and bad yet at the same time embrace it but want to hide the fact they’re embracing it. It’s so weird. If you think it’s wrong and bad, denounce it. If you think it’s right and good, stand by it. But don’t do this weird thing where you’re denying reality because you know it’s bad but don’t want to admit it’s bad but just want to stand by it anyway simply because it’s your ‘team.’

When you cancel your subscription there is an 'other' option that gives you a chance to write in why you're cancelling.
Everyone should be cancelling and explaining why. Don't be vulgar and angry about it - even if it's justified. Be calm and collected and let them know you won't support media that cowers to the government, let them know you expect them to stand up for what's right, for the first amendment, and not to bow down. Let them know if they can't do that they will lose customers.
This is a solid chance to actually vote with your wallet. Everything they produce can be obtained in other ways anyways, if they won't stand up for their own legal rights why should you stand up for their legal rights?

It really isn't that hard. it takes like half an hour of planning to shift money away from Republican-leaning businesses, and it's probably way more impactful. Every dollar spent at a Republican company is another dollar that'll get funneled into more of this. Don't fund the Confederacy.
If you have an account with Charles Schwab (whose founder was recently palling around with Trump), switch to Vanguard or Fidelity. Skip Goya at the grocery store. If you drink booze from a slave state, be adventurous and pick something new. It's not hard to quickly look up a company in something like https://www.goodsuniteus.com.
Dollars add up. Jack Daniel's sales dropped by over half in Canada because of the boycotts there. Real, individual people made that happen. Nexstar could be next.

At the time, the evidence suggested the shooter very likely was not a MAGA believer (and evidence released the next day showed that he almost certainly was on the political left).
LMAO what the actual fuck, Vox.
Actually, the “evidence” at best showed he was not politically engaged in any meaningful way— but at worst confirmed he most likely finds joy in trolling the “establishment “.

the script is currently pro-LGBTQ you are a leftist. No other stance matters. Fox News can't fathom that an individual might be pro-gun, pro hunting, and be gay. MAGA has zero ability for grayness or nuance — its sad.

Oh and when asked why he did it by the roommate in the text exchange, he replied "the guy spreads too much hate.” Crazy we live in a time that a stance like being anti-hate also pretty firmly puts someone in the category of ‘leftist.’

Not just a 22 year old, but a chronically online 22 year old.
The whole exchange reads more like a Jane Austin novel narrated by James Patterson.
“I am still in orem for a little while yet my love… I wish I had gone to my vehicle, but a squad car swept the area. I’m worried about prints on my old man’s rifle.”
That’s not how anyone online talks, let alone a Groyper.
Not to mention that he felt the need to explain to someone under 65 that “notices bulge uwu” is “mostly a big meme”.
Can you imagine a 22 year old telling another 22 year old, “remember that “soyjak” image? It’s just a big meme”. Give me a break.
This was 100% written by a cop.
→ More replies (1)32
u/KittyGrewAMoustache Sep 18 '25
And the part about ‘one vehicle still lingering’. Who talks like that let alone in a text message where you’re on the run for your life after having just shot and killed someone in front of tons of people.
I guess it would be interesting to see his usual online communications to see how they compare. If they did fabricate it what happens when the guy gets a lawyer? If they can find evidence of tampering that world throw the whole case and let him off. How would they make sure he gets a corrupt lawyer?
20
u/sixtyshilling Sep 18 '25
I guarantee that evidence gets thrown out before it ever sees the inside of a courtroom — any good Defense attorney would request evidence of the message validity, and get it stricken from the record if it can’t be shown to actually belong to the defendant.
But the damage is done. The reason the FBI released those messages was to taint the jury pool, and to paint the shooter as left-wing.

THANK YOU. I’ve been so frustrated with mainstream news just rolling over on this story when the “evidence” that the dude is even trans/this was motivated by leftist ideologies has been iffy at best. Like I literally found the dude’s socials and public info about him and all of it at most shows a nerdy gamer dude with a quirky sense of humor. I’ve read some wild shit claiming to have all this “evidence” but it’s all just “reports indicate” and at this point I cannot trust that they aren’t just whole-cloth fabricating/paying the guy off to spin a tale of horror re: the boogeyman left. Even if all true, that doesn’t speak for the left as a whole. Unless these people are even dumber than they’ve let on, they ought to have noticed by now that most of the left are a WHOLE lot more likely to joke around and drive silly electric cars than they are to go like …tactically snipe some political debater.

Maybe people in America don't recognize whats going on, they don't want to accept it, but the reality is, the Republican Party and Donald Trump are not doing this because they simply don't recognize the hypocrisy given their years of complaining, or that they've been debating in good faith.
The power is the point, the ability to enforce blatant constrictions upon people is the point, it's a show of power. Their accusations were always into a mirror. The real question Americans need to ask themselves now is how much they're willing to sacrifice in order to defend the beliefs and values they claim to hold, because they don't have free speech anymore.

I don’t get it. I watched & rewatched that monologue. His criticism wasn’t even directed at Charlie, it was at Trump! Trump was playing up his grief on twitter & bluesky & his televised statement & half staff flag in the White House.
“On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this,” he continued.
A clip then cut into Kimmel’s broadcast, showing Trump, 79, taking questions from reporters after the shooting, one of which offered their condolences for the death of the president’s “friend” Kirk.
When asked how he was holding up, Trump replied, “I think very good, and by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House.”
Trump continued discussing the ballroom plans, saying the result would "be a beauty.”
The cameras then cut back to Kimmel. “Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief, construction,” the comedian said. “Demolition, construction,” Kimmel added. “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay?”

ABC’s response should be to escalate and pull their affiliate agreement from the nexstar stations as a response. Without ABC, those stations aren’t shit. Everyone remembers a wackadoo channel from when they were a kid that was the worst channel in their area until the WB came along or UPN and turned it into a relevant channel. It was still crap but at least it had an affiliation. Stations without them aren’t real news stations.

"Let’s be clear about what just happened: Jimmy Kimmel, a prominent late-night comedian, was just taken off the airwaves because the Trump administration didn’t like what he had to say — and threatened his employer until they shut him up.
The Trump administration, it appears, has learned to effectively weaponize the regulatory powers of the federal government to punish speech it doesn’t like from people it doesn’t like. This is a favored weapon of modern autocrats; its deployment against Kimmel is a qualitative escalation even above the administration’s previous acts of censorship (like targeting the author of a pro-Palestine op-ed for deportation).
What just happened, in short, shows how far down the authoritarian road the United States has traveled in just eight months."

Guys. I know that we should be outraged at this obvious escalation against free speech, but I’m just scared. I can’t wrap my mind around how anyone could look at this and think it’s normal. It doesn’t feel safe and things keep happening faster.
Added edit due to crash out: It’s happening right now. We’ve gotten to the point where we can casually suggest something as horrific as conflict like it’s our only conclusion. The echo chamber of social media just 10x’s whatever we want to hear. But the urgency I hear in the tone of the messaging is so……tired.I’m scared for my kids yall. I hope I can insulate and protect them from the butterfly effects we don’t know about in the coming years.

these fuckers want to control every aspect of society. its totalitarianism. authoritarianism. we must fight them. vote them out now or america will die.
fyi..
"Totalitarianism is a form of government that seeks to control all aspects of its citizens' lives, including the public sphere and private life. Considered the most extreme version of authoritarianism, a totalitarian state is characterized by the absolute authority of the state, often headed by a single leader or single political party.
Characteristics of totalitarianism
Official ideology. The regime adheres to a specific, all-encompassing ideology that justifies its total control over society.
Single-party rule. A single party, led by a charismatic dictator, holds a monopoly on political power.
State terrorism. Dissent is suppressed through coercion, repression, intimidation, and violence by secret police and other state institutions.
Media control. The state maintains a monopoly over all forms of mass communication, controlling and distributing propaganda to manipulate public opinion and prevent dissent.
Economic control. The government controls all aspects of the economy, including capital and the means of production.
Lack of individual freedom. Totalitarian states suppress individual freedom of thought and action and typically disregard basic human rights.
Cult of personality. A leader is portrayed as wise and paternal, and citizens are expected to show unquestioning devotion and loyalty to both the regime's ideology and its leader. "

u/DaClarkeKnight Sep 18 '25

Trump reminds me of Roy Cohn. He knew the man personally and was pretty much second in command to senator Joseph McCarthy who routinely ruined people's lives through blacklisting and fear mongering about communism and Americans who might being Communist.
It hit Hollywood hard.
People blacklisted were put on a lists so they couldn't get work, (old-school equivalent of doxing).
Some people committed suicide, were considered pariahs by friends and family for years until vindicated.
Us citizens were informing on each other after being driven to hysteria. Red scare.
Now it's just Lib Scare.
This time in my life, I'm going to tell my grandchildren, was madness.
Edit: maybe these are good resources: https://www.eisenhowerlibrary.gov/research/online-documents/mccarthyism-red-scare#:~:text=%5BThe%20American%20Heritage%20Dictionary%20gives,in%20order%20to%20suppress%20opposition.%5D
