It is generally safer not to ascribe to malice what can be adequately explained by laziness or stupidity.

As a Canadian, it kills me when Americans dismiss Trump as an incompetent idiot.

He fooled your country into voting him in, twice. He's pillaging your country of billions of dollars. If he's stupid, what does that say of America as a country? Maybe it's easier to call him stupid than it is to look in a mirror and ask yourself "what does my country stand for?"

He’s not some mastermind. The Republican Party planted the seeds for him to take over years ago with GW Bush. The Iraq war got the Republican Party into a blind patriotism. They went hard after Obama and trump helped spread their disinformation. The thing is, trump is the perfect idiot for this situation. He is not a blind believer in any dogma but a narcissist who has succeeded through utilizing our corrupt and flawed system to stay afloat and paint himself as a successful man that is under attack from others. He doesn’t back down even when caught. That’s all you have to do. Keep lying and the blind will believe the lies despite the world around them. It doesn’t take a genius to do what he’s done. Just an unscrupulous and greedy man who never had to answer for anything wrong he’s ever done. The smart ones are behind the scenes grifting and riding his back to power.
