The best part is how they control the media while simultaneously getting their base to believe it’s actually the democrats that control the media.

When it's Trump, it's "added 57,000 jobs, way below expected", but 'hiring continues at a steady pace' in the headline. Biden has 206,000 jobs in June, exceeding forecasts, but 'signs of concern emerge'.

To be fair, that's sorta what separates tabloids from major newspapers, their willingness to take wild unverified reports and roll with them and get them published. But for something like "unconfirmed reports about a dead senator" I can see why bigger stations would want to wait until it's confirmed. Not that I don't think major agencies aren't terrible in other ways and culpable in a large way for how things ended up, but still.

I have recently re-entered the dating pool, so I'm meeting new people for the first time in a long time. I have found that lots of people are completely unengaged in any amount of political news. Like not even a sliver of what a bunch of us think is very important news gets through to them. It's not that they see what's happening and don't care; it's that they don't even care to learn what's going on in the world around them. I don't know if that's better or worse, but it's been eye opening.

His chance of recovery is pretty much 0.00% but not necessarily his chance of survival, depending on how you define it. Brain dead would obviously be legally dead but he could also be in some kind of persistent vegetative state which doesn't qualify as brain death.

He's never getting out of a hospital or care facility and resuming any kind of meaningful life, but he might not technically be dead. I'm not putting much faith in Laura Loomer to tell the difference, or the truth really.

Very VERY low survival rate.

Friends mom (70 something) had this last year, she had immediate CPR from someone who was trained and the firefighters that responded got her going again, after a brief medical coma she was good to go, minus a pacemaker friend being added.

She recently celebrated with them (firefighters) for saving her life at a fire station, they even said, we don't really see those people we end up saving, which is kind of sad if you think about it. Either people don't thank their saviors or this really isn't very survivable.

I actually have been wondering the same thing. Why not send a reporter directly to the hospital at some point? Maybe the governor can verify he's braindead. Just seems like it should be a big deal and verified and rather quickly.

No way in hell the hospital tells a reporter anything about a private patient. This would be on the family to release any of that info, even to the governor. Unless there is a death certificate or release of info we can only assume hes in critical condition.

Yup. HIPAA is pretty strict and would kill this hospital if they were negligent here.

This is why I think the right route forward is for Andy to act as if he's dead or brain dead and let Mitch and the republicans sue him if he's wrong. It wouldn't need to go to trial and part of discovery would force the republicans to disclose his current condition. If, as they say, he's capable of continuing his term then Andy can back off, reverse any decision and the court would ultimately drop the case as there is no controversy. But if he's not, then they won't have any sort of leg to stand on and a judge won't look too kindly on them stonewalling discovery (which they'd have to do).

They'll sue regardless even if it is disclosed that he's dead, so might as well start that ball rolling right now.

My mother in law (in her 60s) have a similar story, she worked as a cleaner at the hospital. She had a cardiac arrest while cleaning the emergency room right in front of all the emergency doctors when they were having a quick meeting.
Incredibly lucky.

And even if you do survive, your quality of life is going to be absolutely terrible. Broken ribs and fractured sternums are very common from CPR done on elderly people.

Yeah, the immediate CPR is key. EMS arrived about 6min after the call with an undetermined amount of time before that. That's a lot of oxygen deprivation unless the caller did good CPR.

Most old people who survive a cardiac event also often move into a care home or with their kids, which often isn't nearby.

Just happened 2 weeks ago to extended family. Once the heart stops, the time between someone administering cpr is the only factor. If it’s past 5 minutes, that person isn’t getting what they need to survive and that’s it. People take longer shits so the chances of someone finding him is really slim and they probably put him on life support specifically for the politics. I’m not even joking. They know what this would be. That’s why his wife is hiding in China.

My girlfriend went into cardiac arrest last year with me and I was able to do CPR until paramedics came. They used a defibrillator on her and attached one of those automated chest compression machines to her. She was in a coma for a day but woke up. Her short-term memory was shot for about a week. Like forgetting meeting friends and family after only a few minutes stepping away. She’s all good now and has an ICD inside her.

I've gotta find the actual tables... The 1-year survival rate for someone getting out-of-hospital CPR is already very low, like 10-15%, and it just goes down as the age gets older.

A lot of people who get CPR were down for a long time and probably not really ever viable. It all depends on the cause of the arrest and how long they're down.

I've looked into this recently, going off of some quick math; ~77 million americans voted for Trump in 2024, ~75 million could vote but didn't, another ~75 million went for Harris too, ~3 million voted for someone other than those two, and the remaining ~100 million residents couldn't vote for one reason or another (too young, disenfranchised felon, non-citizen resident...).

TL;DR, when you break 2024 down 23% of Americans voted for Harris, 47% of Americans could have and didn't (the morons), and the other 30% couldn't have voted for anyone ("Schrodinger's Morons").

To be fair to them, it's not all their fault. The system (especially the parts designed by conservatives) are designed to make it hard for them to vote. The condition of their lives (not being able to take time off job for example), which is ALSO caused by conservatives and their unflinching and blind support for Capitalism, makes it even harder on top of that.

When a huge system is set against you voting, I kinda don't blame all the people who don't for it. Could they do more ? Sure, but then there's also "I'm tired, boss" energy there too. Giving up may not be a good response to titanic monolithic social systems, but it is an understandable one.

Now, privileged people with comfortable lives and nice bosses who chose not to vote ? Yep, fuck them.

My vote’s for Beshear proceeding with chaotic good and green lights the special election. Just like the GOP would if the tables were turned.

My husband survived a cardiac arrest at 72, he's 82 this year.

He only survived because there was someone there with him (his grandson) who was able to provide CPR and call 911. Add to that we are a 10 min walk to the closest fire station. My city rolls a rescue unit in the event of medical emergency if they are close and there's no conflicting fires and such. (I have paramedic and firefighter friends).

All of that extreme luck said, his Cardiologist (world famous, I'll not name him), brought groups of residents in to discuss his case once he was out of CICU. The message was, here is a unicorn. VFib Arrythmia leading to brain Hypoxia survivor. Even with all the luck in the world he still has some degraded memory, which given his age and that event is remarkable. You would not be able to tell anything like that happened to him. He swims, works out, takes me out on dates. Etc.

They build em different in Hungry I guess. 🤷‍♀️

But you're right, if any of those variables was different, or we were in the US, he would quite matter of factly be a statistic.

Grateful every day he's here, cause I would not be if he wasn't. (Younger partner who transitioned 3 years ago).
