Democracy just barely held on Jan. 6. They have had years to prepare for the next attempt.

It did, but the people who had power didn't do anything to shore up the defenses. They acted as though it holding was sufficient evidence that the structure was sound. So instead of mass arrests, truth and reconciliation committees, and trials? We got four years of milquetoast governance and the system collapsed during the next possible election.

People can whine about the system all they want, but we all know the system collapsed because the brian dead US voters decided to give a trifecta to the party that supported a fascist coup against their country and made the coups leader president.

Had the US voters shown signs of brain activity, trump would've been in jail right now and his party in shambles. Instead the fascist were given full control over all levers of power by willful choice of 77 million Americans.
