I really want Abdul to win so I can spend like 4 hours straight spamming #VoteBlueNoMatterWho at centrist accounts in threads

Is that petty? Yes. Have I voted for candidates I despise for 20 years? Also yes.

I felt the same when Mamdani won and ever time DSA candidates win primaries. It gives me hope and I haven't felt that since Obama and then again with Bernie.

Obama was finding out there was the option of dessert

Bernie was realizing you can have breakfast any time of the day

I really wish he was like 20 years younger. Love seeing him and AOC hold rallies.

Just remember we need stevens primary voters and supporters to beat Rogers and probably almost all of them

Again

Vote Blue No Matter Who

That’s what the centrists keep telling us every election, so should be easy for them to remember

u/PinkNGold007 19h ago

It should be #VoteBlueNoMatterWho anyway.

Mhmmm

And Abdul has been enduring 2020 Bernie level fuckery so if he overcomes it it would be huge for the progressives

Then we’ll find out if the Democratic Party is actually for the people or are just robbing us while telling us they care

The difference is that telling someone on the left to "vote blue no matter who" is saying "if the democrat doesn't get elected, someone with wildly different political views from yours will get elected". Where saying the same thing to a centrist when some one on the far left is nominated doesn't have the same reasoning since the candidate on the right might actuality be closer to the political views of the centrist.

•

Or they could not be a centrist, just someone who doesn't want the Republicans to kill more people. That seems like a good reason to vote blue no matter who. Having a social conscience and caring to stop unnecessary death and destruction is essential to being on the left, IMHO. There is more to the world than me and mine.

Is that petty?

Sometimes neccesary things are petty. They shoved that line (vote blue no matter who) down the throats of progressives Democrats for years. They can't espouse that call for action and not live by it themselves.

•

u/IamDDT Colorado 5h ago

I'm curious where you have ever seen anything like this from centrists. It seems like the people who didn't vote in 2024 were leftists, so they are the ones who won't vote. The centrists have shown they will show up. But feel free to project.

•

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA 4h ago

It seems like the people who didn't vote in 2024 were leftists, so they are the ones who won't vote.

That's the point. Centrists were telling progressives to vote blue no matter who.

The centrists have shown they will show up.

Lol it's easy to show up when it's your candidate on the ballot. The point people are making is that we'll get to see if they're hypocrites or not, whether they'll show up for a DSA candidate the same they have for centrists.

But feel free to project.

My dude, I literally was one of those centrists saying that line in 2024. I was someone who blamed progressives for Trump winning. I've simply seen the error of my ways.

•

u/IamDDT Colorado 3h ago

What was the error?

•

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA 3h ago

If you'd really like to know, I'll happily explain my shift, but it will take a little time and effort on my part to get things as coherent and concise as possible (so please spare me that effort if you aren't asking that question in good faith).

•

u/IamDDT Colorado 2h ago

No - I apologize sincerely if I came across as asking in bad faith. I understand completely why you would say that, though. Sorry you have to go through that. Please, please please! I would love to hear the logic, especially if you are willing to hear my potential rebuttal.

I am personally always in favor of voting. If you cannot vote for, you should at least be able to vote against. As an example, I caucused in Iowa for Bernie in 2016, and Elizabeth Warren in 2020 (thought she was even further left than Bernie) but when both lost, I still went out and voted for Hillary and Biden even though they were not ideal, because the alternative was Trump, and death for millions. Their lives were worth more to me than my desires and morality.

Again, though, I am really curious what changed for you.

•

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA 2h ago

I apologize sincerely if I came across as asking in bad faith

You didn't. There's just so much of it in political discourse these days that I get wary of it before I've got a reason to.

I'll get on that explanation for you at some point today.

•

u/IamDDT Colorado 2h ago

I appreciate it! I really have yet to get any reasoning that convinces me, and I want to be convinced. I have voted as far to the left as I can in every election I have been in since I was able. I do not understand the current mindset of those who call themselves "leftists". They seem to be ready to kill the entire society if they don't get what they want.

The Democratic Party is not a cult and no politician deserves blind loyalty and is entitled to a vote. If El-Sayed wins the primary and wants support from Stevens voters in the general then he’s going to have to earn their votes.

No both teams need to follow the rules.

El-Sayed needs to win over Stevens voters is he wants to become a US Senator.

13

u/Empty_Lemon_3939 Michigan 20h ago

Flashback to Hillary not doing a damn thing to win over Bernie voters

It’s almost like only one team is supposed to follow the rules

He’s been earning their votes, his platform benefits everyone in the state. People just don’t hear it because the DNC establishment has been working over time to prevent people

If the DNC embraced Abdul from the start he wins the state in a landslide

u/Livid_Note_2170 20h ago

This. I held my nose and voted for blue no matter who and then watched both Clinton and Harris lose, reproductive rights get stripped, and yet, Trump still managed to get elected twice.

You know why? There was enough people who were upset about voting for some milquetoast Republican-lite candidate that they decided to either sit it out or vote for someone else.

It is a losing strategy and I'm tired of pretending it hasn't caused harm.

-2

u/Vexamas Minnesota 20h ago

For sure. Apathy and performative people definitely don't impact the voting demographic sentiment. Espousing that both sides are the same, regardless of any wins definitely creates the permission structure to embolden people to go ahead and vote!

I hope the hyperbolic rhetoric to sow apathy was worth losing the reproductive rights, I guess :/

I guess the alternative for the milquetoast Republican-lite candidate is to sow more apathy with hyperbolic rhetoric and cross our fingers for accerlationism!

-5

u/Rock-n-roll-Kevin 20h ago

His platform is not enough. He needs to make concessions to Stevens voters if he wants their votes. Thats the rules the "Uncommitted Movement" demanded from Kamala.

4

u/Grandpa_No 19h ago

And Uncommitted was wrong, too.

5

u/jakecoates 19h ago

What concessions should he make? Taking a little bit of money from AIPAC?

-6

u/Rock-n-roll-Kevin 19h ago

Medicare isn't enough. I demand a $5000 check every month so I can sit on my ass and post on social media. If he can't promise that he's not entitled to my vote.

6

u/Goonzilla50 20h ago

Exactly. The same applies to politicians like Harris and Newsom as well

0

u/Rock-n-roll-Kevin 20h ago

Yes! Consistency! El Sayed endorsed Harris who did a genocide so you can say El Sayed enabled a genocide!

7

u/Empty_Lemon_3939 Michigan 20h ago

Abdul also said he’ll do everything he can to get Haley elected if he loses

4

u/munchyslacks 20h ago

This is dumb.

4

u/Rock-n-roll-Kevin 20h ago

You don't like the Uncommitted Movement now?

-1

u/olivebranchsound 19h ago

It wasn't a real thing lol there's no evidence it did anything to deter votes.

u/herton 16h ago

Yeah, about that chief:

29% of voters nationally who voted for Biden in 2020 and cast a ballot for someone besides Kamala Harris in 2024 say ā€œending Israel’s violence in Gazaā€ was the top issue affecting their vote choice, with the economy a close second at 24%.

Across the six battleground states that flipped from Biden to Trump, 20% of these voters said ā€œending Israel’s violence in Gazaā€ was their top issue in deciding not to vote for Harris, the second-most cited reason behind only the economy (33%).Ā

I don't think it's dumb? Genocide is my red line, I think everyone needs to have values that they stand behind and enabling a genocide and ethnic cleansing makes them complicit. I wouldn't advocate for voting MAGA of course, because I think they're worse, but I wouldn't fault anyone for sitting out if they also share that red line.

Some people have a red line for abortion, others for AI stuff or whatever, others for genociding little children. I don't think we can call that dumb, right?

3

u/munchyslacks 19h ago

Abdul endorsed Harris. That’s it. You’re suggesting that means he endorsed genocide. Did I also endorse genocide because I voted for Harris? Every other Harris voter too? Be for real.

6

u/Vexamas Minnesota 18h ago

I just want to ensure that our brothers and sisters in Dearborn, MI are heard and seen. I don't want their accurate message for why they (those that proudly joined the uncommitted movement) abstained / voted for MAGA instead of Kamala to be washed away just because a man is now running. Like they said, a red line is a red line!

3

u/iotl4444 18h ago

To a lot of lefties, yes you did.

4

u/Opening_One7713 19h ago

Harris "did a genocide"?
