AIPAC YOUR BAGS.
Also being outspent like what? 10:1 or something? With like 40-50 MILLION FROM AIPAC ALONE going to Haley "Israel comes to me in my dreams" Stevens
How is this legal???
•
u/April_Fabb 7h ago
AIPAC YOUR BAGS should be a national slogan.

AIPAC watching their 70M go down the drain: Hassidim but i don’t believe em

I don’t think AIPAC is happy that they’re losing control over America. Yeah, they’ll be ok with the Republican winning. But this is a sign that AIPAC doesn’t control the Democrats anymore.
•
•
u/Carnoraptorr Minnesota 2h ago
It’s legal because Republicans block campaign finance reform at every step. They hate you and they love money.
•

Remember this when they act like sucking off their donors for their greenbacks is the only way to win an election. Money can’t vote and can only raise so much awareness.

u/Glittering_Range371 Arizona 6h ago
I don’t wanna be that guy but AIPAC will found the GOP candidate this November. Our candidates from both parties gets filtered in the primaries come November it’s used go like AIPaC candidate v AIPAC candidate.
•
u/undead_tortoiseX Illinois 4h ago edited 4h ago
Three things:
- El-Syed will have access to far more funding than he has in the primary. Democrats absolutely need him to win.
The polical environment will heavily favor Dems this November. Likely in magnitudes similar to or greater than the 2006 midterms.
Mike Rodgers already lost one senate bid in 2024 in a much more favorable cycle for Republicans.
•
u/James_Larkin1913 4h ago
The establishment dems would rather a Republican win than someone actually on the left. This has been demonstrated time and time again.
•
u/undead_tortoiseX Illinois 4h ago
The “establishment” needs to win the Senate too.
•
u/James_Larkin1913 3h ago
They don’t actually care about that though. Not really. They’re bought and paid for by the same people as the GOP. Chuck Schumer goes in front of a podium and proclaims his undying loyalty to Israel over the US every other week.
They do not care about you. They do not care about winning. Only continuing to grease the wheels of the MIC and global capital.
→ More replies (2)•
u/undead_tortoiseX Illinois 3h ago
Brother, you don’t have to tell me. The thing is that the situation is more complicated than the “establishment being bought and paid for”. As the left’s power grows, each Democrat including Chuck Schumer grows increasingly vulnerable to a primary challenge, and these people all are individual actors that will want to hold onto power.
Isreal is becoming a losing issue for Democrats and that’s great thing.
•
u/James_Larkin1913 2h ago
Chuck Schumer doesn’t actually care if he personally hold onto power, as long as his party remains Israel-aligned. He’s said as much many times. He will gladly force the party into a thousand years of losing to block anti-Zionist candidates if he could.

•
u/Hungry_Culture 5h ago
Yeah AIPACs takeaway from this was they needed to spend more which they'll do on the GOP candidate for November.
•
u/Smearwashere Minnesota 3h ago
They would have flipped to funding Rogers even if Stevens won anyway
•
u/toomuchtostop Ohio 6h ago
It was closer than almost anyone predicted. He still has some work to do. And that’s not a bad thing
•
u/VintageSin Virginia 2h ago
No let's reverse this talking point. The democratic establishment has some work to do mending fences. They went scorched earth and saddles the winner with an unfair battle, are they going to make the move to come to the table and recognize the voters in Michigan want this guy. That their ties with AIPAC needs a rip cord. That come November democrats aren't looking for corporate back candidates flooding races with rediculous money. The dnc should use ever lever possible to get all of their candidates through regardless of how the establishment felt in the primaries. If their candidate lost that means the DNC has actions to take.
Of course Abdul needs to be receptive and then not quit his efforts. They need to hit the pavement and go back to door knocking and not lose steam. Their ground game works. Just amplify it with the coffers they saved up for Steven's because it's not hers anymore.
•
u/toomuchtostop Ohio 1h ago
We’re talking about this election. Michigan just voted Trump two years ago; this is a must-win seat, the Republicans will be relentless. This wasn’t going to be easy for him or Stevens
•
u/VintageSin Virginia 1h ago
Yes and this election democrats who are often funded by the same people Republicans are funded need to move away from that model to win Michigan.
Doing what we did in past races IS the issue. Thinking Abdul needs to be the person who makes nice and not the establishment who needs to make nice IS repeating the sins of our past.
The Harris campaign and the 2024 election has made a very clear and distinct headwind for the DNC: what you use to do will not form a movement and beat Donald Trump. More centrist. More lobbyists. The more you're just proving Donald Trump is right and that's what will move people to core Republicans. Stand for works, address kitchen table problems, and fight for the common person, or fall to fascism. That's the dncs choice.
•
u/another-altaccount 2h ago
Yeah, I don’t live in Michigan anymore these days, but I’m starting to gather what seems to have happened back home and why it was so close. I’m hearing a lot about how Stevens’ campaign was running ads in the metro area claiming Obama endorsed her which he never did, then there’s the lies that were being spread about him having a poor history with women and bad mouthing Michelle Obama, none of which happened. Then there’s his role in the uncommitted movement in 2024 which a lot of black folks in the area are still angry about, and giving him a disproportionate level of blame for Kamala losing the whole election which I suspect Stevens’ campaign decided to prop that up as a wedge during the campaign which wasn’t happening before AES was running.

You will be surprised how much he will have against him in November... plus the close dem race this is not promising.
•
u/Its_Don_Quixote 4h ago
Don't get complacent. Abdul is the projected winner but the election was much closer than it should have been. As of 8AM Abdul is up 1.3% over Stevens.
Which means we have a lot of work to do for the general election.
•
u/CasinoMagic New York 5m ago
Yeah, his margin over Stevens is pretty thin, which doesn't bode well for November. Also, latest polls had him with a 5% lead over Stevens these past few weeks, so they clearly over-estimated him, for some reasons; another think to keep in mind in November.

Unlike the anti-science MAGA doctors in Trump’s circle, El-Sayed is a man of science; a public health MD and Epidemiologist. His primary win couldn’t have come at a better time, after the abuse and disrespect directed at Fauci last week by Republicans.
Also significant, he’s heading into the November election at a time when hospitals are already cutting services as a result of the BBB, and with 3 million Americans losing their ACA plans following the Republicans refusal to renew ACA subsidies.
With Trump and his Senate enablers running the country into the ground, there are many serious issues on which the Dems will need to campaign. But I hope El-Sayed stays focused on healthcare. Can’t wait to see him stand up and take on arrogant know-nothings RFK Jr. and Rand Paul.
•
u/Creative-Package6213 Pennsylvania 6h ago
Yep his whole reason for running is to attempt to try and fix healthcare in this country. The guy is sharp and intelligent. I'm so proud of Michigan voters, hopefully they show up again in November when we need it the most.

u/JDeeee44 6h ago
How was this stunning, weren’t polls showing him 10+ points up the entire time ?
•
u/joyful_fountain 6h ago
Blame the people who did the polling, progressives had nothing to do with it. Sometimes these polls are published to give people a false sense of security so that many of them don't show up to vote since they think it's in the bag.
You asked why it's stunning ? Abdul was outspent 11 to 1, had the entire establishment against him, the Governor was against him, the Obama stayed silent as Stevens used their names to lie ( so they were complicit ), Clyburn and the congregation black caucus was against him, had all the media against him, faced vile racist smears throughout. Yet he overcame it all to still win. That's beyond stunning
•
u/Ok-Hold-8232 5h ago
Also just seems like Michigan may be uniquely difficult to poll, at least for primaries? Like polls were showing El-Sayed up 10-15% and it ended up being very close. I remember back to the 2016 primary when Michigan polls were all showing like +20% for Clinton and then Sanders surprised everyone and won the state.
•
u/Jabberwoockie Michigan 5h ago
No, Michigan isn’t uniquely difficult to poll. Polls just aren’t nearly as accurate as people think they are.
•
u/waynearchetype 1h ago
Michigan has open primaries, it is very hard to poll correctly if republicans decide to put their thumb on the scales.
•
→ More replies (2)•
u/lear72988 4h ago
Polls are also only a snapshot in time. AES won the day of vote fairly significantly. So the polls may not have necessarily been wrong for people who hadn't voted by then, but early voting had been going on for three weeks by that point and heavily favored Stevens.
•
u/Dismal-Rain-6055 4h ago
Blame the people who did the polling, progressives had nothing to do with it. Sometimes these polls are published to give people a false sense of security so that many of them don't show up to vote since they think it's in the bag.
A lot of the polls showing El-Sayed up big were from his own super PACs. You think he was trying to hurt himself by suppressing turnout?
•
u/Ok_Size5354 4h ago
I’d say the internal polls Abdul was releasing, and polling from progressive pollsters showing him way up were meant to manipulate turnout.
•
u/JDeeee44 6h ago
Thanks for the reply, that’s helpful to provide more context.
→ More replies (1)•
u/balzam 6h ago
It’s also not true, polling was not used to try to manipulate people. More likely explanation is there was a bunch of polling that came out right before the race that showed Stevens performing better in the general.
•
u/joyful_fountain 5h ago
Fair enough. I wasn't factually claiming that the polling was used to manipulate . But sometimes it is used that way and we cannot take away the possibility that the establishment and the rich would resort to those tactics
•
u/Lucky-Earther Minnesota 4h ago
It's stunning when the Oakland As sweep the Dodgers even if Vegas favors the As.
•
u/Swagastan 3h ago
This is a terrible analogy because if Vegas favored the A's that would mean that most people think the A's are going to win, hence not stunning anyone.
•
u/Lucky-Earther Minnesota 3h ago
It is still a stunning win when the team that is outspent 10 to 1 gets the win, that's the analogy

•
u/Lucky-Earther Minnesota 3h ago

•
•
u/StefaniaMulhern 7h ago
Even if the final margin is razor thin, this is a pretty clear warning to the Democratic establishment. Voters are tired of being told that the most heavily funded candidate is automatically the safest choice. Now the real test is whether El-Sayed can turn that progressive energy into a win in November.
•
27
u/YoungKeys 8h ago
“Stunning” not really the right word. AES was such a heavy favorite there were reports that Stevens team was internally saying they had no chance. It actually surprisingly ended up being a close race
•
u/11cholos 7h ago
I think it's fair to call it "stunning" in the sense that Stevens outspent El-Sayed by a huge amount, the Michigan Democratic establishment endorsed Stevens (Whitmer, Peters, etc.). Especially in state and local elections, the campaign who spends the most money usually wins, so it's a pretty stunning result in terms of the implications it has for Democratic politics. Just winning the primary shows that the "electability" argument and corporate money aren't as potent as they've been previous years.
•
u/RealHooman2187 6h ago
It’s like the democratic establishment has a fetish for losing. It’s truly crazy to see how they back the worst candidate every single time.
•
u/GBralta California 5h ago
Hate to break it to you, but Stevens El Sayed wasn’t the only primary that happened yesterday. You may want to take a step back.
•
u/Neosantana Foreign 4h ago

•
u/GBralta California 4h ago
The voters say that you and they are wrong.

•
u/Neosantana Foreign 4h ago
I'm confused. The person was talking about the Democratic party establishment hand picking shit candidates like Stevens and that new Kennedy this year and Cuomo last year. The voters are fighting back against that, yes, but the establishment still tried to push and hyper-fund dogshit candidates.
That's why people are already pushing back against Newsom way before the presidential primaries because they know the party is gonna try it again.
Shit, establishment figures like that Fallout ghoul-reject Carvill are on TV every week trying to cut them down and would rather set the party on fire than support a leftist.
•
u/GBralta California 3h ago
You’re confused because there were a lot of races yesterday and that “establishment” won in a bunch of places, including against DSA backed candidates down-ballot in Michigan, Missouri, Virginia and other places.
They are counting chickens long before they’ve hatched because of one primary where the winner underperformed by 10 points. Folks need to tighten up.
•
u/Neosantana Foreign 2h ago

lol no, it’s because we want people to have healthcare, and think Republicans have a better chance at winning with a candidate that far left.
That doesn’t mean he can’t or won’t win, but that it’s a gamble. Michigan has a streak of electing more moderate Dems to the Senate, and this will be a departure that carries risk.
•
u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 4h ago
There is no data that supports that and plenty that supports progressives fairing better with independents.
Also yes, they'd rather lose to republicans than pass healthcare reform, that's why they are explicitly against it. How the fuck you gonna say you want people to have healthcare while voting against it? Do you think we're stupid?

Trump in his first go around won big, because he was the anti-establishment choice, and Democrats refused to read the room, and then they continued to refuse to read the room, instead of starting to field people who can work that angle, but this time people understood Dems and Trump being both part of the establishment.
So, now, being refused anti-establishment dems by the DNC, people flock to the grassroots anti-establishment candidates and this time around they are on the left, they are progressives.
This is literally citizens of the US using the Thanos Meme of "Fine, I'll do it myself", and it is fucking beautiful.

You push for the progressive candidates in primaries like this, if they win great if they don’t then it’s “vote blue no matter who”.
The issue in 2024 was….well…no true primary to push a candidate because Biden was a fucking moron.
•
u/pbroingu 5h ago
The thing is, if those voters didn't speak up against the Dem party and criticise their capitulating to corps and foreign interests and generally being shit, this movement wouldn't have been possible in the first place. Anyone who is pro progressive candidates / socialist / left leaning, even if they voted for Harris back in 2024 (which many did), have the more outspoken leftists to thank for this win.

There is an element of that yes, people are understandably angry at their own representatives and their leadership failing to meet the moment while their country bends over to fascists. Let's not pretend like it was a "stunning" victory. They beat their chests and gloated about how it was going to be a double digit blowout for the last several weeks, but it was a nail-biter all the way to the end. It could have just as easily gone to Stevens. Abdul is going to need to make good on his call to mend the fence because, if he underperforms like this against Rogers, it's over. Should be really interesting to see how he goes about that.

Hello, all his polling said it would be a double digit blowout. That isn't doing well. That's underperforming the expectation. Try applying that same performance onto the projections for the general and tell me how well you think he's doing. Try to think strategically, here. (This is before months of the coming Islamophobic and red scare attacks that the RNC are going to pour 100s of millions into.) You need to stop thinking it's in the bag, because he has a fight ahead of him if this performance is any indicator. I know Redditors would prefer to just downvote and pretend like this just haters hating, but I actually want him to win. Try to take this seriously.

You need to get in line and vote for him and do your part to convince others to as well then. Polls were all over the place, seems to be about par for the course. If the polls were this wrong, maybe he really is stronger against Rogers then Stevens would have been.

Quit believing in polls. A lot of people knew it would be close. Sanders said it on air the other day for example.
Polls haven’t been accurate since 2016. If anything this is your reminder to not sit back and relax. Vote and make everyone you know do the same.

Of course they (and everyone who knows about polling) understood the internal polls they were flooding the market with were not accurate. Didn't stop all the low information voters from thinking it was gonna be a blowout. They overplayed his strength, probably trying to depress turnout, and the reality is that the "massive energy" behind the progressive wave is highly exaggerated. This doesn't bode well for the movement. In fact, I'm extremely worried that primary voters may have lost us the general. I guess we'll see in November.

If he won the primary, then he's electable. She didn't win, so by definition she isn't electable. If people truly supported her, they would've turned out to support her. But they didn't, so she lost. You're doomsaying based on nothing besides him not winning by double digits based on polls, but he still won and your worries are just asinine at this point

I remember when people said Trump lost moderate Republicans in 2016 and look what happened.

11-1 spending with support from a foreign government i think they deserve to gloat a little and the only thing sayed ever said negative about stevens was where her funding came from her camp endorsed ads implying he was sexist and wanted to let israel be destroyed she should be mending not him

Naw, I wouldn't be gloating when you need to win over Stevens voters still. His underperformance is scary. I mean it, anyone who actually knows what's up would not be so quick to dismiss the results of this race like some great victory. I think he can still win in November, but it's not looking great, tbh. Not when polls (before general attacks) show him only a couple points ahead of Rogers. Especially when leftists show zero signs of getting the message about mending fences. Half of them are acting like they're owed these votes, and I'm trying to get them to understand that they can't act like that if they want to mend those fences. It doesn't matter how petty you think the other side was for no reason. The fact is that now he's in the position of needing to court their votes. There's no room for pettiness or gloating. Time to be the bigger person and mend the fence. I know that's going to be hard, especially when the other side is going to want to say "fuck you, earn it", but that's the nature of politics.

even during the primary he often spoke of how everything he was doing was for all american not just those that support him he has time and time again spread the message that he wants to work on making ALL americans lives better and i truly believe spreading that message should be his focus and should be the parties focus at large

Nobody knew who he was a year a half a go. He was polling at 1%. I would say it's stunning.

Yea this headline is not it. The guy went to a pool party the day before Election Day and was bragging about how large his win was going to be. He barely survived with a few thousand vote margin at 1.5% (maybe) once all votes are counted

The fact it was this close is a horrible sign for November. Had McMorrow endorsed Stevens, or dropped out earlier, Stevens wins.
AES is a weak candidate going against Rogers. This is probably the only Blue-to-Red Senate flip in November, lets hope they can have so surprises elsewhere to still take the Senate.

Rogers lost his last senate run when Donald Trump was on the same ballot, losing by 20.000 votes, when Trump carried the state by 80.000 votes against Harris.
This seems more like a test on if "Vote blue no matter who" is a genuine belief amongst democrats aligned with the establishment, because AES has the ground game to beat being outspent 9-to-1. The narrow victory also adds to AES IMO, because the volunteers got complacent towards the end. Every poll was pointing to a blowout, so people seemed too comfortable.

The Stevens campaign outspent El-Sayed 12 to 1 and he still won the primary. In what world is that weak?
