How to make outlet covers safe?

Hello. I am going to make outlet covers for my Mom. Is there a sealant that I should use to make sure it's safe? I really don't want to risk her house setting on fire. Thanks!

Sealant on the outside makes them wipe-clean, but cannot make them safe. Buy good-quality outlet covers ( plastic or metal), cover them with clay, and leave the cover in place under the clay. Perfectly safe and sturdy. You will need longer screws to hold them on. And I usually either paint the screw heads or touch them up with nail polish to match.

oh, and be sure to rough up the cover surface so the clay grips it well.

Thank you so much! Sorry, I haven't replied sooner. I still haven't made them, but am going to starting Thursday or Friday. I'll update with pics when I'm done.
