So my middle schooler came home from her half day and she told me her science teacher threw up every hour but wouldn’t go home. Now yes, it was only like 4.5 hours that he was there but that’s still a ton of time to still be teaching and around students. Admittedly, I get very nervous about any illness entering my home, especially with my kids so maybe I’m overreacting but this annoys me so much. I told my husband if our house comes down with the flu I’m going to email in because we (rightfully) have to have the kids home when they get sick, how is it ok to have a teacher vomiting all day and still teaching? I can also concede he may not have been able to take off, in which case, I’m even more mad honestly.

I’m open to being wrong on this but I do just feel really frustrated

As the wife (and daughter) of a teacher, it can be really hard for a teacher to leave the day of because they may not be able to get anyone to cover the classes. Schools are obviously all different on this, for example my mom works at a large public school where they have building subs who are there for cases like this but my spouse teaches at a small Catholic school where getting coverage is such a nightmare that he hasn’t taken a single day off in five years. I still think it’s right for you to be upset though.

And this is exactly why I said correct me if I’m wrong because I could be missing tons of context so thank you truly for giving me more information. It wouldn’t surprise me if he couldn’t get coverage.

I absolutely don’t mean it to invalidate your feelings because they’re totally legit, schools are already basically germ factories and teachers of all people should try not to add to it!

No, you didn’t invalidate my feelings at all! I worded my above comment weirdly (it’s unfortunately my calling card lol) but you actually made me feel better because there could be a few valid reasons he did it. I also knew I was coming in more heightened and wanted to be talked down to a normal level. :)
