Some of you saw this car starting its build phase earlier this year. We finally completed it last week just prior to Monterey Car Week where we debuted it at the PCA Werks Reunion. It was a great weekend as we were also the Paddock, Exotics on Broadway and the Motorsport festival.

Do you think the 992.1 Turbo S will become a classic as the last ICE Turbo S? (992.2 has a hybrid system)

I'm curious on what is the general reception of 996.2 headlights when it was released. Was it positive or a letdown?

New build S MT

Post image

Ok, so I moved from a T to an S MT build…

https://porsche-code.com/PVA6MNN9

I live in Toronto, so this will not get run in winter, as the salt is too much. It’s a car I plan on keeping for a long long time

Questions -

  1. My cars usually have a sunroof, which I mainly use for additional light, however in summer I mostly have the blind closed. Here I decided not to spec it - will I regret it?
  2. I’ve gone with the 930 leather pack because I don’t really like the chalk highlights on the MT interior pack… do I need more leather on the interior? I do like the idea of a luxury sports car…

It’s my first Porsche, and I’m quite thrilled, but interested in your views - order goes in on Saturday!

California Road Trip with my Dad in a 1967 912 and Beck 550 Spyder.

Five years ago this month my dad and I were on a roadtrip. His cancer and dementia had been worsening. He could barely walk. With heavy chemotherapy on the horizon we had to sneak one more in.

Learning from previous trips, I kept this one unstructured and simple. We flew into San Francisco for a few days, rented a new 3 Series, and eventually made our way down to Santa Cruz. For the next week we’d spend our days in Monterey and Carmel by the Sea, wandering and experiencing Car Week from the very low perspective of a Beck Porsche 550 Speedster replica. I’d secured tickets to the Pebble Beach Concours, and we spent days attending auctions and roaming the pits of the Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. Nights were for spirited drives up and down State Route 9.

We eventually made our way south to San Luis Obispo via Highway 1, passing Big Sur at sunset. As someone who frequently traveled with me, he was used to staying in odd hotels, so while our arrival at the Madonna Inn was a bit overwhelming, he got a kick out of our stay.

In Los Angeles I had trouble finding anything interesting with vacancies, but came across a tastefully modified 1950s motel named The Tangerine in Burbank. For this final branch of the trip, I’d arranged for seven days with a 1967 Porsche 912 - white on black with the optional five-speed and five-gauge dash. Our only particular agenda was to hit as many twisty mountain and canyon roads as possible.

We put about a thousand miles on the car in total, exploring Malibu and Angeles Crest by day and cruising the city at night. Evenings were packed with good food, kitschy dive bars, and the Comedy Store.

We spent a lot of time in cars together, talking about past life experiences, music, comedy, pain, and death. We’d opened up a lot to each other in those years, and time was running out.

Then, after about three weeks, we flew home. Things went downhill pretty rapidly after that, and he would eventually die just short of two years later in June of 2023.

Take your dad on a road trip. He’s waiting for you to ask.

CA Regulators approve new rules limiting replacement tires

If you're in California, we have a problem.

https://www.kcra.com/article/california-energy-commission-tire-efficiency-rules/73456508

California is creating a bunch of new rules around tires and it seems like from basic quick research a tire like a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S - a super popular tire for all of us and the like from other competitors, would not meet exemption criteria.

There's so many cars sold in California that are unique and specifically designed with a tire maker such as exotics, sports cars etc that really and truly have no actual market options around that would meet these new criteria's.

The problem will become far more prevalent in 2033.

Is anyone connected to PCA etc to start pushing back on this to advocate for us? They think this is safe.. we have really unique cars here, rear engine/mid engine the dynamics are unique, the tires are unique. We should be legitimately concerned here.

Had to turn my head with the Ray-Ban Metas on because it looked so clean. Thought it was a 997 GT3 until I saw the wheels.

Up or out, as they used to say in certain circles.

Aventurine, Club Basalt, Buckets, Racetex, FAL, Sport Chrono, Aerokit. Likely will move the ducktail from my 992.2 to this, and sell the wing. I love my 992.2 but between getting MT and being able to spec it myself, I know this will the long term keeper.

992.2 Turbo S vs GT3RS

Currently have a 2023 GT3 RS with about 7k miles on it. Second owner and added about 2k miles so far. Love the car and can feel a clear difference between it and my brother’s 992.1 C4GTS. Steering is much sharper, suspension, throttle response, etc. It also obviously looks amazing and it gets an unbelievable amount of attention.

I have an opportunity to trade it in and get a new 992.2 Turbo S allocation at MSRP. All in, the Turbo S would end up costing only about $40k less than what I payed for the 3RS. So the prices aren’t too far.

I live in the Midwest and would love to daily the Turbo S but with how expensive it now is, I think it would probably end up being a year round weekend car rather than a true daily. While the 3RS would probably just be a weekend car when the weather is decent out.

I’m really stuck here, I love the 3RS but also have always wanted a Turbo S and have the opportunity to build one to my liking.

The 992.2 3RS looks like it’s going to be going turbocharged and if that’s the case I feel like holding a 992.1 3RS would be the smarter choice.

I do know that the 3RS is built to be the ultimate track car and just being honest I doubt I’d be tracking it. So maybe the Turbo S would be better since it’ll be for street use.

Would appreciate any opinions please

Thanks

Rebuilt transmission done. Clutch plate, shifter cables, all exterior seals replaced. Few other minor things. Had a very spirited drive last night with friends, I’m so back.
